I am fortunate enough to be able to bring my dog to work with me and he usually only comes to work two or three days a week, he usually stays in the shop ( a 30' x 60' metal building, he always has food water and a bed to lay on. I had to pull a forklift out of the shop today to help a customer so I put cooper my six month old gsp in his crate which is a medium size crate ( he can turn around in it and lay down and has a blanket in there ) he is only in there for short amounts of time, thirty minutes max, so Im loading up a customer when I notice a lady walk into the shop ( cooper was wining ) and I was worried she would let him out cause there is a road with high traffic twenty feet away, so when I walk in the shop this lady has taken him out of his crate and is holding him by the collar she starts scolding me on how having him in a crate that size is cruelty to animals and I should not have him in there, I tell the lady to let go of my dog and that the crate is not too small and he is able to turn around in it, this lady would not stop trying to scold me on how I was an animal abuser and that I should not be able to have animals, I tell the lady to leave the property, she ends up calling the cops and when they take my story they tell me that I am doing nothing wrong but it just makes me mad having to deal with it
I just cant help but think of what I would have done if he was hit by a car because of her actions! I can think of what I would feel like doing if it happened but I know that I am smart enough not to do anything dumb. It just makes me mad cause if it did happen and I tried taking her to court Im not sure if anything would happen

Cops should not even respond to claims like that.
-
Man sorry you had to go through that BS. Wonder what she would have done if she opened the cage and gotten bit???
-
That lady is a moron. :bash:
-
you should have shoved the lady into the crate and left for the day. :chuckle:
-
I would have prob been arested for my dog biting her or she would have tried to have him put down jk but it would not suprise me. I just think it was a big waste of money for the city cause of this lady
-
apparently the wack job animal rights activist has never heard of crate training.

They'll be running the country before we know it. They can already get the police to pay you a visit for doing nothing.
-
I would have said, I'm glad to see you officer I'd like to press theft charges on this lady, she went into my crate and took my dog out and was attempting to leave when I stopped her at the door !! >:(
-
That sucks you had to go through that. However its a good thing that they do check on the animals. They apparently know the differnce between a rant from a tree hugging hippy and the confiments of a safe dog.

yes that is very true, the officer was a really nice guy and was very familiar with the animal laws. And I am glad that they do check on these things but I wish she would have gotten in trouble for opening his crate to begin with
-
Thats the sad part. If your dog would have bitten her he would have been put down. If she would have opened the crate and he got hit. You mabye would have won a judgement in small claims court and not have been paided. Sad part is we need to lock our kennels and boxes now to protect our dogs from these "people" who know whats best for OUR dogs.

I had a neighbor like that - nosy and said I was abusing my dog by leaving him on a runner chain all day. He had shelter food and water. When my dog escaped the yard half a dozen times and was hit by a car I had to keep him on that or he'd be dead. I already paid 1500 dollars in medical bills from the car accident. Lucky he was not dead. Then I have this old lady pestering me about containing my dog. Stupid people should mind their own business. Cops should charge her money for sending them out for nothing.
-
Glad it worked out. This crap is out of hand.
-
I bring my dogs to work every day. They are in the back of my truck in kennels. They get let out 3-4 times a day, go on walks with the ladies at lunch and have random people giving the pats on the head all day long. It is a lot better than leaving a dog home alone in any sized yard / fence with no interaction with anyone. they love being here and look forward to seeing everyone who gives them attention here at the office.
Some of the ladies here give me a little crap about the kennels but, everyone knows how much time I spend with my dogs everyday.
-
Sounds like PETA in action.
-
I would accuse her of trespassing for staying on the property after you told her to get lost. >:( Did the sheriff give her a trespass warning...?

I do not think he did but he did not talk to me after he talked to her. I should have just said that I caught her in the act of stealing my very exspensive hunting dog
-
Wow that sucks man...I had an a similar experience awhile ago. Took my GSP into the store to fit him for a new kennel for the back of the truck. They were very concerned I was getting one to small...we argued for awhile and I finally left and bought one somewhere else. They wanted me to get on for x-large dogs...he's 60 pounds, it was like a condo for him not a kennel.

You know, I was thinking, we take our kids and strap them in god forsaken contraptions in the name of safety. We put leashes on our kids, and leave them in cradles, pens and such. Maybe this woman should be rescuing infants from car seats instead of your dog. I think she should seriously face some type of penalty for harassing you and wasting the time of Officer. "PURE CRAP"

i woulda flipped out even if it were a lady, but not it if i was on the job :chuckle:. i've never had a run in with them types, but having a few long time hound hunters in the family i've heard a few storys
-
Too bad you don't have her name etc. and a lawyer on retainer. Even if you don't I'd get the information and file charges against her for illegal trespass and have a restraining order drawn up against her entering your place of business.
If my dogs don't know you and you approach me, my wife, our property etc. they WILL get aggressive and let you know to stay away, especially in a kennel.
-
Stuff like this makes me mad. Who the #$%^ do people think they are. I have a neighbor that got a new puppy and of course it barked during the day. They had another of the same breed and they were in a large kennel and let out several times a day. I know this because they had my kids watch the dogs for a weekend and they made sure to write a list of feeding times and plying times. Last week the pound lady shows up with the police and takes the new puppy and accuses them of animal cruelty because of one complaint. Then they only take the one dog. Doesn't even make sense to me. How can they legally do this.
-
This seems to bee a common problem. Some jerk reported me for animal cruelty too. When the animal controll officer came to check on us she drove down the alley behind my house and saw that my dog was on a 20 foot cable run, with a twelve foot lead, with a dog house and fresh food and water. She came around to the front door and informed my wife that there had been a complaint but that she could tell just from driving by that the dog was fine. People should get fined for bogus complaints!!! >:(

My GSP absolutely loves his kennel. He can't get in it fast enough when he jumps in the truck. It's hilarious watching him get all excited. He even hits the door with his ass on the way in and swings the door shut on himself. I'm sure he'd latch the door himself too if he could.
-
I would have filed a complaint on her for trying to steal my dog. The cost of a pup from a breeder, plus training, plus other expenses can get to grand theft. As far as I'm concerned, if a stranger takes my dog out her kennel, where she's safe, they're trying to steal her.
My lab loves her crates, too. She has one in the back of the truck that she automatically gets in when she gets in the truck. She has another in the kitchen, and when she's ready to sleep for the night, she'll go get in it by herself.
-
Some people just don't understand how dogs are. crates help them feel safe, especialy in a place where there are a lot of new people. She is probably one of the people leading the charge against the fish throwers at Pikes Place Market.

Some people have no clue! This isn't a dog story, but a couple of summers ago my family and I went up to the "Hole In The Wall" at Cape Alava near Forks for a day at the beach. My kids were having a blast looking at all of the sea creatures and hermit crabs etc., when this whack-job lady comes up to my then six-year old boy and scolds him for picking up a starfish. She says, "How would you like it if someone picked you up and ripped you out of your home?!!?" Before I even had the chance to set her straight, my boy spoke the wisdom that only a six year old can, "Well, why would I care... I'm not a starfish!" (Then I jumped in and finished her off) :chuckle: (PS... Not trying to jack the thread.)
Good job responsibly crate training your dog.
-
Thats not a threadjacking but fits right in. I just heard of some local news where a guy dispatched his own dog, and is now being charged with a felony. I'll see if I can find it.
-
I saw that on the news last night :dunno:
-
I htought you were allowed to dispatch your own animals. I thought it just had to be done in a responible manner, i.e. one shot to the head and such.
-
animals have more rights than a newborn fetus, so it wouldn't surprise me on e bit, though its unbelievable.

not a thread jack at all I like the story!
I was at the beach and going back to my truck but was having to wait for a woman putting her kids in her van ( not a big deal at all I have kids so it does not bother me to wait on such things) but I noticed she had a lit cigarett in her mouth as shes having her kids sit down on the sill of the van door while she wipes the sand off the kids feet so I tell her that it is really bad to smoke in front of her kids she turns to me and just gives me a rude look so then I tell her not to get mad at me cause if anything she should be mad at herself for giving her kids cancer. sometimes I should prob keep my mouth shut but im just not that kind of person :chuckle:
-
I would have turned the tables on her and accused he of stealing the dog as others have mentioned.
Either that or slapped the biotch into next week :chuckle:

i had some dumb ass lady try to give me some similar $#!T, we stopped at walley world as our last stop on the way out to our property during deer season, I had my beagle plus my parents 3 beagles and there lab and was letting them all out of the crates to piss while pops was running in for supplies. we had them in 2 crates the 3 younger beagles in one thats like rottie sized crate and lab and momma beagle in another also large crate. luckily i wasn't at work so i told her where she could stick her oppinion then moved some stuff outa the way so she could see the rifle cases in back of the truck.... she drove off
