We are thinking of buying a UTV and wondering if negotiating the price from MSRP is worthwhile or effective on Powersports and equipment similar to vehicles. I know they have a bunch of add-ons like dealer prep fee import fee and a whole bunch of other fees which I will be attempting to negotiate out of the final sale price but are they firm on the msrp?
I think we have narrowed it down to the Kawasaki Teryx 4 or the Yamaha Wolverine X4. Yamaha is definitely nicer and a little larger but also 4 to $6,000 more. I'm pretty sure I can fit the Kawasaki in the back of my truck also. The Yamaha would be pretty tight. Anybody own either of these two and have any reviews?
Years ago we were a part of the Pacific Northwest four wheel drive Association and a couple other Jeeping clubs. Do they have any clubs like that for Side by Sides? Been out of the game of off-roading for almost 15 years now and itching to get back into it.

I bought a new Polaris from All State Powersports in Spokane a few years ago. They did come down on price a little bit and made the warranty deal a little sweeter. Doesn't hurt to ask. You can also ask to have them drop to delivery and set up fees that are added on. I think I saved around $2,000

When buying power sports the deals are on the ones they have had on the showroom floor the longest. Can’t remember all the verbiage on it, but basically the dealer is losing money the longer they sit there, once they get to a certain point they want them gone. So prior year models will be much cheaper than the new ones.
If it’s a popular model they only get so many of it’s hard to get deals on those. Spring is when they are stocking up for the summer sales.
Good luck.
-
Right now is a good time to buy, and be able to negotiate on price. Dealers finally have plenty of inventory. A few years ago there would hardly move on price because there was no inventory and there was another person in line right behind the next guy ready to buy. Great time to get a deal on a 23’ especially.

I just bought a new 2023 Skidoo for 3000 off and a new Kawasaki Brute 750 for 2500 off
If you can get a new 2023 its the way to go

Bought my last one in Oregon. Use it only on my property so didn't need to license Dealer was cheaper than anyone in WA and of course saved sales tax
-
Kawasaki has a new SxS coming out in the spring and a couple models in the fall! Look like a really nice machine! Ridge and Ridge XR with 92 and 116 HP!

There are 2023's still floating around and 2024's are starting to show up more so definately a good time to buy. Not too many near me so may have to drive a ways to find one. The biggest limitation is the color. I do not like the baby blue version and that one seems to be the most available for the Wolverine.

Lotta new models coming out……

56k… Could really trick a Tacoma out for that!

$60K :lol4:

Unreal. There's gonna be $100,000 side by sides in no time. This is totally sustainable in the long term, right? :chuckle: :chuckle:

Reminds me of summer around Boise with the $100k+ lifted diesel trucks pulling the $200k+ wakeboarding boats to the reservoir. They either make a ton of $$$ or have a ton of debt.
-
Probably both.
-
It’s skewed pretty heavily towards the debt side of the equation. Most Americans are @ 2 missed paychecks from being on the street

Wife and I went out and checked out a few machines. I searched online and found a Yamaha Wolverine X4 in the South End for $15,900. So I called up a dealer near me and asked if they price match for the exact same machine. He would not give me an answer but said if we come down to take a look he will work with us . So We decided to drive down to talk to him and drive a couple different machines.
After driving a few around, the wife and I ended up liking the Yamaha Wolverine Rmax 4 which is the bigger and more expensive machine.
After some back and forth negotiating I got the machine down to $21,999 from $24,999 with an original listed price of $29,999 (higher than most dealers).
Question I have for you guys who have purchased these machines or something similar around that price, what are you paying for the destination fee and also the setup assembly fee? This dealer is charging me $1,800 for the destination fee and $1,500 for the assembly prep fee. This is on top of the sale price of $21,999. Those two fees seem awfully high adding $3,200 to the cost.
Another question I just came up with as I'm typing, is the sales tax based on the sale price or the sale price with the destination fee and the assembly/prep fee added?

I’ve bought half dozen in the last decade, a couple new and I 100% would look for one that is used, but has less than 800 miles on it. Previously owned by an older adult. I’m a Polaris guy, I’ve had Yamahas and Canams, I did like my one Canam 1000 I had but overall I loved my Rangers. My favorites have always been my 6x6s. And as for putting into your truck, get an aluminum trailer. You will not be sad you did.

I have had a Honda 1000 since 2016. Been pretty much trouble free. During irrigation season its full of my junk. My wife ended up wanting her own. Got her a Honda 700 4x4 for $10,500. It's a pretty sweet rig. It's simple, small and nimble. The full sized rigs are very big and heavy. More car like. Depends on how you use it to what works best for you. I think all the major brands are equal in quality and faults.

Just bought a 2024 Polaris Ranger 1000 XP- pretty amazing rig . They are expensive to get all set up tho

A couple years ago we bought the Yamaha Rmax 2 seater from a dealer in Lewiston, ID. Similar price point to yours and they charged us $1,100 for freight and prep combined. It was added to the taxable amount. We were also charged an $80 fee for DOC/Admin / Tariff Surcharge. $3,200 for freight and prep seems pretty steep to me. That being said though, they are awesome machines and we've put lots of fun miles on it since then.

Awesome. Thank you. This is exactly what I'm looking for. They are charging me $200 for document fee. When I was talking to him about the destination fee being $1,800 he went on about how the ports are charging a bunch of money to import these and other nonsensical stuff. I did a little research today and it appears these machines are built in the United States with parts shipped from Japan.
Your machine looks awesome.

So when I bought my Honda Pioneer 1000-3 LE. It was a 2018 they had on the floor for over the year. Bought February 2019. Negotiating start and this is how it went wanted roof, winch and windshield the LE already had a good package of other stuff. 2 helmets. They started running numbers and I looked at him and said I have 20K cash that is all I am paying. Tried to crunch some more numbers and told him nope 20k done deal they agreed. Started to go through the paper work and they were adding on the fees. I gave the paper work unsigned and told him 20K out the door. Figure it out or I am out of here. Took them another 20 minutes but it was 20K cash I paid out the door. Got to play tough sometimes or just get up and walk away. I did lots of research and being that it was new used it was in that price range.

Got a Can-Am HD10 6 seater with AC/Heat electric windows 4 years ago - don’t need a tacoma or jeep or ram now. Just get it to camp and park the tow rig til seasons over!

Yeah that's crazy. We bought ours when there were waiting lists to get any new machine, post covid. We put a deposit down and waited 6 months for it. Most dealers have more inventory now. It seems your dealer is still operating like there's nowhere else you can go. Maybe shop around and see if you can find a more reasonable dealer?

Well the wife and I made the mistake of driving one of these. Now we own one. Bought this one used with low hours/miles. It is in really good shape. I like the automatic transmission with the paddle shifters over the belt drive. You can manually shift gears while either in manual mode or automatic mode. Lots of control of gearing. I really like the ergonomics while sitting in it. Should be lots of fun.
