My mom lives over in the Poulsbo area and they have a 24' boat that I'm going to take out crabbing next weekend. I see it opens in marine area 13 this next Thursday.
So the question, while my pots are soaking is there any good (loose term) fishing that I can be doing while I'm out there to pass the time. I haven't looked into seasons yet but I was thinking of maybe trolling for some local silvers or jut getting a few dog fish and flounders.
Any advise would help thanks.

You said Poulsbo which I would think is in area 10, but you also mentioned area 13 so in that case you should be able to keep 2 salmon, Kings must be clipped and 22" Rockfish is open but you have to reatain only 1 and the first legal one you catch no yelloweye or canary rockfish, Don't seem to be any limit on dogfish :puke: and flounder (Other bottomfish) is open year round with a limit of 2 daily.
Question, Why would you want to even catch a dogfish ??

The more I look at the areas that are open the more I think I may go over and do some elk scouting that weekend with one of my buddies, there is not much open until July :dunno: Plus I cant believe the paper work it takes to crab :bash: I guess that is why I live on the eastside of the state :chuckle:

i gave up crabbing in the sound when WDFW started charging extra and made it so you needed a punch card. then they won't even put the results to use.
everywhere i used to crab just gets hammered on by the tribal crabbers now, and i've heard of guys having their lines cut by the indians for crabbing in the same areas. not to mention that if you set pots, odds are you won't be the only one checking them. talked to a guy last summer who caught 4 different people checking his crab pot in one afternoon!

not sure when they are in but I would troll a night crawler at the edge of oyster beds at the depth where you could just see the bottom.and nail the cutthroat with a noodle rod..I released all fish

Hood Canal is MA12 and is closed for salmon until July 1st. If you up in the Poulsbo area, it's still a ways to MA13, but doable, closest good launch for a 24' is going to be tough to find, unless you go back down over the Narrows to Narrows Marina. Joemma State Park is an OK launch, but the float is often completely full this time of year, which makes it tough to pick up your trailer person/ passenger once launched. Area's worth a shot for crabs in MA13 are Devil's head and the Nisqually delta area, don't take your eyes off your pots for one second, pot thieving is a daily occurrence there.

I talked to my buddy who lives in Bonney Lake that was going to go with me and we decided to just hop on 410 when I get there and head back over and start looking at elk area for this next hunting season. :chuckle: I couldn't believe all the stuff you need to go crabbing.

This is locked as per teacher man. He went else where and requested a delete but locking is better.
