Title: Non residents idaho youth question.
Post by: D-Rock425 on March 10, 2024, 04:42:49 PM: How old does a youth hunter have to be in Idaho to hunt on there own? My oldest daughter turns 17 this year and I was wondering if she could sit on a bear bait on her own this spring. I found this online so I'm guessing she'd be stuck with me.

Post by: High Climber on March 10, 2024, 04:50:15 PM: My understanding is that only pertains to the “mentored” tag… ie she hasn’t passed hunters education yet it’s a 1 year exemption. She is good to go if she is a regularly licensed hunter I’m pretty sure!

EDIT: looks like Non Resident youth is different… looks like you may have to be together :sry:

I didn't see any other license option other than the mentored one. She's definitely passed hunter's Ed.

Post by: cem3434 on March 10, 2024, 07:00:20 PM: I bought my daughter a mentored deer tag for the same reason (didn't see any other youth option) and she passed hunters ed 2 years ago. It's kind of a mess because I didn't buy a tag this year, so I either need to get a leftover tag later that is turned in or she will have to hunt with my cousin or buddy that are residents.

Post by: meatwhack on March 11, 2024, 08:43:02 PM: The only youth option is the Jr mentored. If you want to pay full price I think you can buy a regular nonresident tag but with the jr mentor they have to be within normal talking distance of their mentor.

The language above says "license holder", not tag holder, so couldn't you just buy a hunting license to be able to hunt with her?
