Go to the mule deer forum.  Start with the first post and work you way forward.  Lots of threads on the Desert.

By the way congrats on drawing my tag. :hello:

There is nothing secret about the Desert carbonkid, get a map and mark the boundaries, it's not a huge area and its flat so you can cover a lot of area in a day. There is quite a bit of private area in that unit so try to get some private access. You could walk most of the public part of that area in a long weekend scouting trip. Good luck

OK so maybe it's not a secret and No I don't need him to mow my lawn but I did scout it for 5 weekends and flew the entire unit in a plane so I would say I have some $'s invested in that unit!!! I'm not opposed to giving out info just ask some of the others on here it but would just be nice to hear from some of these guys before the draws so you can get to know a little about a mans character before you start handing over the info!!!  :twocents:

You know though M-ray, there are tons of lurkers on here that don't want to post for various reasons.  I bet half the members got started on here because they drew a tag or needed some help or info.  I'm with you on the 1 post guy asking for a honey hole.  I've gone off on them.  We will get a lot of good new members this month because of the draws though.  I see both sides of it.

Good luck with the tag carbonkid.  How did you get drawn for Desert A on "accident"?
Title: Re: Desert A tag

I might be bitter because i didnt draw anything but these posts are starting to get to me.  My advice is to put in for units you know.   :twocents:

I don't necessarily agree with this statement.  If you know a unit is good, as the desert is, you don't necessarily start scouting and hunting through an area before you draw, that sounds like a waste of time.  You would most likely be spending the time scouting in an area you KNOW you're going to be hunting.  Once you learn you draw, then you can start scouting.

NOW.  That being said, it really bothers me when first posts are where can I find deer/elk/moose/sheep.  Getting involved with the site is important.  Carbon, see my post on the Toutle.  I'm not asking for specific honey holes, just some general information and some idea's on where to set up camp.  People are much more willing to respond if you've spent some time on the site.

Hey I'm not beating him up I'm telling him what I would like in exchange! You guys should be able to tell by now from my past that I would go help anyone at a moments notice (and have) and there are a few of you on here that know I have given you info by Pm's. That being said I just want to know a little about a mans Character before handing over the info, What's wrong with that? And one way to get an idea about that is if the guy has been on here contributing! After awhile you know if a guy is a jerk or not and then you can decide. We've also seen the guy who asks with one post, gets what he wants and then never post's again  :bash: It's nice to hear the success story too.
Sorry about the way this comes off carbonkid like I said before nothing personal. Just get involved, Tell us about yourself, post a story about a previous hunting success so people start to get an idea about the type of person you are and that will go a long way to achieve the type of networking you are looking for.  :)

UNDERSTOOD COMPLETELY!

I WOULD DO THE SAME THING...........NO DOUBT ABOUT IT.

If you have SOLID good info you dont want to go around just givin it to anyone...next time you go hunting there it will no longer be a secret or good spot...merely because people talk.

I GOT YOUR BACK MRAY....TOTALLY UNDERSTANDING WHERE YOU WERE GOING WITH THAT ONE.

"accident" =  my guess is that he put in with a partner and the partner chooses the deer selections.  I do this to my cousin all the time.  When we put in for partners, I typically push him one direction or another on certain units depending on the species.  Sometimes he pushes me on other species.

The dude has not even logged back in yet. If he is for real he is kinda messing up his chance to get some good advise from the unit from others on here. I try to stay away from giving good advised cause it usually costs me a set of sheds.  :chuckle:

Yeah, I know a guy that drew the Watershed tag because his buddy talked him into putting in for a party hunt.

I'd have to open the damn rule booklet, though it has a great pic on the front its kinda hard reading.  Then I'd have to invest in maps, and though I have thousands (even states other than Washington believe it or not) I'm sure I don't ahve one titled watershed.   ;)

if it is, then 3 pages later it worked.

it seems that there are better tags in the blues now than the watershed tag....especially with all the restrictions.

Should have seen the buck I seen step out of the timber form its boundary one day. HOLY HELL.  Ooops le tth ecat out of the bag.  I guess I do know which watershed you might be talking about.  Is there one in Tacoma too?

Drew a Desert A tag....5 points into it.

Not my usual hunt.  I have only been hunting for the last 9 years or so and I've hunted the GMU just NW of Oroville.  My usual hunt if pretty elevated with little cover and long views and ive had some good luck.  Have always heard how this area is the best draw in the state so I'm obviously excited.  I know this GMU is going to be an entirely different hunt so now starts the work.  I have some ideas and some buddies from work that know the area pretty well.  Plan on doing a lot of scouting and work on this one.  A little bummed that it falls over my elk season..... :'(

Anyway.  Not asking for anyones honey hole.  Just asking for some general good sage advice on the area.

M_Ray...there might be a good bottle of scotch in it for you.

No need to apologize to me I don't mind at all if a guy jumps in after his draw that wasn't the point at all ... it's the guy's that do that and then don't post again!!! if your sticking around and showing off your ram you'll be fine! Oh and BTW I have a little inside tip about you  :hello: I may also have some info for you about your Ram area  :chuckle: seems I scouted it when a buddie of mine drew it in 02  ;) the only reason I couldn't hunt it with him was that I had a Desert tag that same year!  :chuckle:
