Title: .22 scopes
Post by: jdb on June 13, 2009, 11:22:41 AM: what is everyone useing for a scope on thier .22? I am going to put a new scope on a browning T-bolt and was wondering what everyone else perfers?

the thing to remember if you are picky is that rifle scopes are parallaxed for 100 yards. rimfires for 50 yards or you get AO. for lots of shooting, fuzzy crosshairs at 50 yards become annoying. :twocents:
i have a bsa sweet .22 that i like too.

Post by: h2ofowlr on June 13, 2009, 04:28:02 PM: A tasco or burris will work just fine for a .22, as you typically don't shoot over a 100 yards. You can pick it up for $35.00-$50.00. If your going to scope up a hunting rifle that hits the hills and weather I would put your money into the optics. I have Leupolds or Zeiss scopes on all of my hunting rifles.

If you want to hit a pop can at 100 then just you shouldn't have to spend over $50 on a scope. If you want to put the bullet in the same hole (so called tack driver) then spend a lot more for a more quality lens. The scope is not the only thing that makes it a tack driver though. You"ll need a good rifle with a light trigger pull and good ammo. Not to mention your shooting abilities will play a big role.

Post by: mattaylor81 on June 13, 2009, 05:39:02 PM: I use a Nikon Prostaff Rimfire 4x. I think the fixed 4 power is about perfect for the range of 22lr shooting. I am also partial to Nikon. IMO just as good glass if not better than Leupold optics. I have Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x on my Tikka and Rem. 700.

Post by: BigGoonTuna on June 13, 2009, 09:11:25 PM: if i had realized how well my CZ 452 shoots earlier, i might have bought something that went up to 10x or 12x for it. i'm sure i'll have no problems whacking grouse or rabbits in the head with it :chuckle: it'll shoot a cloverleaf at 50 yards using the side of a tree as a rest with good ammo...i'd really like to try shooting it from a real rest sometime.

if you really want to see what your .22 can do, try some subsonic or standard velocity ammo in it.

Post by: Mookie on June 13, 2009, 09:21:22 PM: Don't go cheap. A $50 dollar scope costs what it does for a reason. Leupold Rifleman are good and don't cost a lot. Bushnell Trophy, Nikko Stirling, Weaver, Mueller.

People think a 22 does not "deserve" a good scope, but you most likely will put more rounds through it a year than your hunting rifles will in their lifetimes. Besides, you were willing to spend the money on a quality rifle, why put a cheap scope on it. Glass will make or break a rifle.

You wouldn't buy a Porsche and then go to walmart for tires.

Heck, I know a guy who bought a 54 Anschutz and put a Simmons 8 point on it. I believe the German government sent a formal letter of complaint.

BTW, I have a Bushnell Banner on my Marlin and a Leupold VX2 on my Ruger. My Savage has peep sites that cost almost as much as my Leupold.

I noticed a lack of mention of simmons in the reply's we have several simmons scoped .22s in our house and have had good luck with them. I think ill give mueller a hard look. thanbks for the reply's
