Title: Ollin digiscope
Post by: 6haase6 on April 22, 2024, 06:20:19 PM
Anybody on here use the Ollin system? Have been looking into it but I run a Nikon spotter and they don’t list any Nikon optics. Have a message out to them to of their eye pieces will work for me or if I’m out of luck. Looks like a pretty slick system, anybody got any input on it?

Haven't tried them all, but have tried the Magview and switched to the Ollin. Magview is more universal, but not completely. It wouldn't stay on my Kowa eyepiece, and indexing wasn't great with it. The Ollin is a much better system if it fits your eyepiece. I just keep the case on the phone, it's not too bulky.

Here's a good review of some of the more popular options.

I just picked up a Magview from another member on here, it’s pretty easy to use!

I have had Phone Scopes and  Mag View.  Ollin is the easiest and quickest by a long shot

I have the large and small adjustable phone scope system. The new cases are too bulky and the adjustable eye pieces either get ditched to save time or forgot at home so 9/10 times I just hold the phone up and run free hand so really hoping I can figure out a way to make the Ollin work. So far what you guys are saying is what I’ve gathered from research just wanted some input from your guys. Have any of you ran into having a scope that wasn’t on their list of scopes and them were able to help find one that would work?

Sounds like you basically HAVE to buy a new spotter to make your Ollin work :chuckle:

Now that’s a solution I didn’t think about. But doesn’t sound like my best option guess I go start a different route of research

You might be able to the size closest to your eye piece but a little bigger and tape your eye piece so it will fit snug.

Ollin is the best I have used, but outdoorsmans is a close second. Phone skope is junk.

My wife bought me one for Christmas, but they didn't have a size for my Leupold BX5s. The customer service gal was very helpful in trying to find a size that would work for me. During our back and forth they told me they would be releasing an adapter for my binos this summer so I opted to wait for the right one.

I’m hope for that case with a message back some effort to try and find something that will work for me. Hoping they have some info compiled on eyepiece sizes so I don’t have to go to a store with a set of calipers and measure the scopes they do offer  :chuckle: :chuckle:  If I don’t get a message back and find some time I’ll put in an actual phone call.

they should have something that will fit your spotter. I talked to them at the sheep show and told me if they didnt have the specific brand there is usually something that will fit.

I bought at the show in Utah and it was too loose on my spotter , I emailed them and they had me mic it out and sent me a new one and shipping label to send back
Great company and great piece

My buddy runs an Ollin and I run a Scopecam.

Scopecam doesn't require a giant phone case or adapter, and it can be thrown on any scope, bino, or spotter at any time.  But it's bulky and a little finicky to set up the first time.

The Ollin is a better, more solid system IMO, but not universal in the field.  Can't toss it on your buddies spotter if he doesn't have the adapter.

Did a quick measurement of my scope and got in touch with them through instagram and email, they gave me to options and what they thought I should do. If their suggestion doesn’t work they said they would switch out to the bigger size no problem.

I bought the Ollin system this spring, I love it. It works great, I read lots of reviews saying it's the quickest system, after buying it I agree, but they do not have eyepieces for every optic yet. I run a Leopold Gold Ring Spotter, they do not have an eyepiece listed so I messaged them and asked if they would be offering an eye piece for the gold ring in the future?

In a couple days they replied back that they were testing an eye piece for gold ring spotters and it would likely be available by August. I went ahead and got the eye piece for my 15X Swarovskis and have been using it for now, I'm very pleased. At first I thought the phone case would be a hassle buy I quickly got used to the shape.

It's very quick to deploy when you want close up pictures. One thing I noticed, far away photos seem to be faded out some, they need to be sharpened and color saturation increased. This photo the bird was about 200 yards away, this photo has not been retouched yet.

This photo was at about 70 yards, not nearly as washed out looking, this is the original taken in early morning before sunrise. I'm using an iphone 11, there are phones that take a lot better photos out there now.
