Title: Lets talk Bi-pods.
Post by: Crunchy on May 16, 2024, 07:35:55 PM: So the barrel and stock should arrive in the next month or two for the new rifle build. I need to figure out which bi-pod I should go with. It will need to attach to the picatinny mount on the bottom of the stock forend. I have an older Harris 9-13 for another rifle and not that isn't anything special. I would like to keep weight in mind as well. Any input is appreciated.

Makes a bipod out of your walking sticks and attaches via the rail. I find it’s super adjustable and very sturdy. Again might not be what you are looking for but if you already use walking sticks it’s a really good option

I have tried those and just not for me. Most of my hunting/shooting is a bit longer range so bi-pods work best.

I ordered it last September and apparently they had some issues with quality and stopped production in order to address those issues. It took awhile for them to roll them out but I am happy I waited. I haven't had a chance to get out and shoot with it yet but it appears to be really well made and has some really well thought out features. It goes from about 5" to 19" and weight is 12oz.

I also have the Hatch Outwest bipod and really like it but it is a bit heavy and long for packing around. The only complaints I would have about the function of it is that the swivel/tilt tension loosens up with repetitive shooting and for a lot of prone shooting positions it is a bit tall in the standard low position and takes too much fumbling around to get lower.

The Caldwell carbon fiber bipod is a good less expensive option. My main complaint with the one I have made to connect to a pic rail is that it isn't a quick connect style. You have to tighten it with an allen wrench. I actually Mcgivered a quick connect from another cheap bipod I had on mine and it works OK.

Because the legs have set click-lock length adjustments, sometimes I have to fiddle a little bit with where I'm situated to get the crosshairs to sit level. But overall, they are cheap, pretty light, and they have steadied my rifles to shoot many paper targets, rock chucks, and coyotes.

I know there's a time and a place for: "you get what you pay for" and "buy once, cry once". But at the same time, why pay more when the cheap stuff works fine for your needs.

These may or may not fit your needs. But they fit mine just fine.

Theres lots of new fancy expensive bipods and tripods made by companies who havent proven themselves and you can decide for yourself if you want to bet your wallet to be a product tester. Harris has a selection for pretty much every application that are reliably high quality. Theres little reason to build a better mousetrap.

Each have their qualities, I will say that Harris is still the most simple, most cost effective choice that 90% of people will be happy with. I do want to try a triple pull, but DAMN it hurts the wallet!

Wow that triple pull is a lot of cheese about 1k's worth. Looks really nice, but I am goin to stay under $500 roughly.
