Looking for a charter for bottom fishing trip for an 80 year old and his four grandchildren. Any suggestions/recommendations?

Mark Coleman from all rivers and saltwater. They have multiple 6 pack boats. Or anglers edge if Mark doesn't have an opening.

:yeah:
Definitely use Mark if you can and try and get on their 42'.
It's got a Seakeeper stabilizer....less rolling and it makes a great fishing platform.

I’d find one that has electric reels. It’s a lot of fun but a lot of reeling without electric reels.
I went out with predator charters last week and had a blast.

:puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: I’m done with big water, went last weekend and never puked so much in my life!! If you don’t get sea sick, you are blessed!! Hope you find a good boat and have a great time! Heard the Slammer and Tequila are good options

I feel your pain on the seasickness. I sometimes get it, but it luckily never gets too bad. Ive tried the meds but haven't found the magic one yet. Fishing is so much better in the ocean that I keep going.

Ocean Sportfishing Charters has a few 6 man boats. Pacific Fin II seems to be a pretty popular boat

Ive only got puking sick once. I do get a little queezy at times. Ive found that Ginger gum or Ginger mints really help settle things down. If I feel it start to come on at all I'll start chewing on one. Hasnt failed me yet.

Check out the FV Reel Electric, it’s my buddy Karl’s boat out of Westport.

Before you give up get a prescription for Scopolamine compound pills. Scopolamine patch would work 50/50 for me but have had zero issues once I went to the pills in the last 10yrs.

I thought I’ve tried it all, everything!! But never heard of those pills, unless you are talking Dramamine? I can’t take dram, or Bonine , both make me sick, done the patch, makes me feel like a zombie, zofran used to be my wonder drug but even taking two last trip didnt tough my sickness. I always suffer out there cause it’s so damn fun, but just have to say when now. Unless those pills you are talking about aren’t Dramamine??

All Rivers / Mark Coleman. Fast boats = way less chance of sickness if you're prone.
Bottom fish trips with All Rivers often puts you back at the dock with limits around noon-1pm.
I've done many trips with them and booked 6 boats a year for the company I worked for to have them take clients. I've been on a lot of charters and Mark does an awesome job. His crews are top notch.
-
https://watuna.com/ Have had good times with Darrell and his crew. They have 2 boats and there fast. 6 man boats.
-
Call Mutineer Charters. Eat something round if getting queasy on the Ocean. A 6 pack charter boat trip can be kinda spendy.
-
I’ve gone out with Westport Charters on the Hula Girl for years. Always had a great time with them and the price was right.
-
All Rivers and Saltwater Charters but if you can not get on their boats then hit up Mark's brother Mitch at Angler's Edge.
-
That stabilized boat sounds like a dream. Last time I chartered out of Westport we went NW and the swell hit us at a 45 degree angle causing the boat to list and sway. I've never thrown up so much of my life. 6 of 8 hours spent puking. It was awesome. We got limits

:yeah: Our company books probably 10-12 trips with Mark. That 42' boat is a little more spendy but a dream to be on. in addition to the stabilizer it has air ride seats inside. You don't feel much of anything.... We have always had a great time and gotten our limits with them. Tuna fishing with them has always been lights out fishing as well with a boat packed with tuna. Their boats are fast and we have never had a bad experience with them.
Mark and Merry are good people too.

If your going out of Westport Steve and Jason on the Hula girl is the way to go. There is a lot of good boats out there but the experiences ive had on the Hula are always amazing.
-
GOLD RUSH or TEQUILLA TOO!! They are both great boats!

I can't even read this thread without feeling sick!!! BUT, stabilizers ???????????????????????? Do they work that well in the ocean?? my cousin has one on his 52' boat and says it's awesome, but he doesn't leave the sound.

Stabilizers are a game changer for ocean fishing. I asked the captain to turn them off while fishing to see how much of a difference it made. Big difference for sure. That boat is like fishing off a pier when the stabilizers are on.

For a cattle boat, 100% also recommend.

What's your budget? Big difference in price with a cattle boat vs a 6 pack charter. Big difference in travel time on the water also if your doing a deep water trip out to Gray's Canyon. It takes some of those larger boats 3.5 hours to get our to the canyon when they're targeting the bigger lings and halibut.
If you're taking a bunch of kids, I'd recommend a regular bottom fishing experience where they're only going out a few miles to fish. Gold Rush or Hula Girl would be my top 2 choices for larger boats that are more affordable.
I can also tell you who to avoid if you want to PM me.
-
I would recommend Salty dog charters Jarrid will catch you fish and you will enjoy your trip.

He has some money!! But yeah, not too often is it needed here. He does take it up to the San Juan’s though, 😁

Be like being on a lake 😂

Marezine used to be the ticket for motion sickness for decades. It contained Cyclizine, but is not available in the US anymore. Others, such as Dramamine contain Meclizine which is not even close to the same.

I been out on the Hula Girl a few times. For bottom fish they target sea bass. Lings a few get taken but not too many. After being on them a few times I am kinda soured on them. The last time I had two ling cod and when I got home and was vaccum packing the fillets - no ling cod just bass. When I contacted them they insisted the cod was in my bag and said I did not know how to tell the two apart. They refused to make it up by a free/reduced next trip. I will go Tequila next time. Just my :twocents:
BUT depending where you are for the drive I would look into going out of Depot Bay.
The rates are less and the yield is more. For me the drive is just a little longer and with the rate difference that is my preference. Plus you can add crabbing. And if you want to crab on you own the limit is more than west port. Also clamming is nearby
