Finally we find a sheep guy. If I don't get a sheep story this year I was going to lose it. Congrats on the tag.
-
I bet we see another sheep tag pop up before the hunt begins. :twocents:
-
Golden bb,
Congrats on your tag!!! I saw a solid low to mid 160s type ram from the river the other day. Seven other rams but he was by far the best... Good luck!!
-
I have a friend that drew the quilomene tag, and his hunting partner also drew one for the same area so that is two accounted for
-
Is this it, only 11 tags this year? :bash: We had 20 last year :dunno:

Anybody know if I missed someone?

Is this it, only 11 tags this year? :bash: We had 20 last year :dunno:
This is a light year compared to last, hopefully we will add a few more in the next couple months.
Good luck to all the tag holders!!!
-
Do we have anyone new to add to the list?
-
That list is not acceptable, the only way to make it right is for me to get one of the moose raffle tags.
-
Do we have anyone new to add to the list?
My son drew the 49DN youth moose

Congrats Elkric. Are you going to keep us updated?
Absolutely! half the fun is reading all of the stories on here. Hope to get my two boys (9 & 10) out to help and add to the fun as well.

And Yes PopeShawn, that'll keep me motivated alright. At this point i'm trying to just calm down for a couple of months. My blood pressure has been raised since I found out about being drawn. lol

Getting close guys.
-
Awwwwww, its Lulu :chuckle:
Yeah, never let your 4 year old daughter name your moose... Lulu it is! :chuckle:
Pope, if you don't mind me asking, how did your Moose score? I see 7 points to a side, forked fronts so you got that for paddle length. I'm hoping to take mine with a bow, so am trying to get better at judging Moose. Paddle width on the left is around 9" I'd guess. Hard to judge the right side for width, also hard to judge total width from this picture.
-
You guys with moose tags getting any sleep :o Last year at this time I was waking up at 3 am thinking about my hunt.
-
You are right on Goldtip. Here is how I scored mine. I forgot so I had to go read my original moose post to see what the measurements were:
Palm lengths -30" & 29"
Palm Widths - 9" & 9"
outside spread - 44.5"
beam mass -7" & 7"
points - 7 & 8 pts
Total: 150.5".
I think it would net 148" or so? The interesting question is whether the split brows in the front will count or the one side is considered a drop tine? I think it's split brows the way I read how to score because it comess off the front and then bends down. It would be an interesting question for a scorer. One of these days I'll put down the wine glass and get out a real tape and get accurate 1/8th measurements. :brew:
-
Hye Pope, Tom showed me exactly where to get the measurements so when you want to break out the scotch we can sit down and do it, I aint much into the wine :chuckle:
-
You guys with moose tags getting any sleep :o Last year at this time I was waking up at 3 am thinking about my hunt.
You know, I've been sleeping ok, but during the day it's pretty much all I think about. scouring over maps, trying to talk to guys and get any info I can get. Its pretty fun. :IBCOOL:
-
You guys with moose tags getting any sleep :o Last year at this time I was waking up at 3 am thinking about my hunt.
I'm sleeping OK, but yeah, daylight hours has me pretty consumed with thoughts of Moose. Especially since I just got my Canadian from last year back from the Taxidermist last night. I will get pics of the mount up tomorrow, turned out pretty good. Will be spending this weekend scouting more of my Moose area.
-
Thanks for giving me those measurments Pope, I appreciate it.
-
I am keeping myself consumed with scouting and watching moose. Septemeber I am sure I will get really antsy as the velevt comes off! Having fun so far, got lots of people involved, been taking daughter out and girlfriend and friends
-
WOW, Finally found some guys who have drawn a moose tag or have had a moose hunt recently. I'm from the west side of the state and drew a selkirks permit. I plan on a few trips to the area to check out things. Ive been trying for a permit forever. If anyone can give me alittle info. it would be apperciated. Looking at best prospects, maps, and places to camp.
I'm an avid elk hunter, but this hunt is the hunty of a life time and I CAN"T WAIT.

If you are looking for a outfitter give Joe and Jodie a call at http://shermancreekoutfitters.com/
Joe really knows his stuff and I can guarantee you will gain weight during your hunt regardless how much you hike :chuckle:
-
Appreciate the the quick response, Yea, I was hoping for someone would point me to a reputable outfitter. I should be in that area within the next two weeks.
thanks again

-
The list is still looking weak, we need more OIL tag holders. It was great reading all the stories and seeing the pics from last year.
-
Ya we should be getting some updates on hunts here soon but not soon enough!
-
The list is still looking weak, we need more OIL tag holders.
With the number of new members since last year I would have thought we would have increased the amount of OIL drawn members as well. :dunno:
-
new to the site
Selkirk (Moose)
Goat Rocks-tieton (goat)
-
new to the site
Selkirk (Moose)
Goat Rocks-tieton (goat)
You drew both those tags this year? :yike:
-
yup and a rimrock big bull tag as a kicker
-
:yike: And only 19. Nice to get those out of the way early. Good luck, and we are looking forward to the stories.
-
yup and a rimrock big bull tag as a kicker
Sounds like a heck of a year.... Good luck on all. Tell us about your hunts, we like to hear. Welcome to the site!!!
-
Have heard ground rumblings that 2 of the MICA tags went out of state! :stirthepot:
-
Holy crap dobby, that is crazy good luck. Please keep us updated. You should start a thread for each of your tags.
-
That's just against ALL odds. :o But...another member here drew goat, moose, and an any bull tag last year too. So it's not completely unheard of.
-
wow 2 out of staters hmm, thats some luck or what
-
You're 19 and drew those tags, how many points did you have for each?
-
I know one Mica tag went to an out of stater.
-
You're 19 and drew those tags, how many points did you have for each?
10 for both goat and moose
and 4 for elk (archery)
-
holy smokes, I mean really what are the odds that someone would draw 3 tags like that? really makes you think about the pt system are the system they are using.I personally wouldnt like it if i drew all those tags, i want to commit time one and make the best of it, I wouldnt be able to get enough time off :chuckle:
-
Yes that would just suck to draw mountain goat and moose tags in the same year wouldn't it?
-
Yeah, I agree, it wouldn't suck to draw all those tags, would certainly be nerve wracking for me trying to organize it all and maximize the outcomes for each tag. But hey at 19, he could not fill one of those OIL tags and be back in the drawing and stand a realistic chance of drawing again. But truly I would imagine the odds of drawing those three tags in one year is astronomical.
-
Actually drawing all of those tags at this point in my life could not have worked out any better, taking a little break from college in the fall lets me hunt everyday from opening day goat to the end of moose season. I was freaking out at first how I was going to get all of those hunts in at the same time but after not getting drawn for any out of state tags and sitting down really looking at dates it’s going to work out just fine
Ballpark gameplan
Goat archery Sep 1-5
Elk 8-14/15 (7 days then I’m done ill get drawn again)
Goat rifle 15-oct 1 (hopefully I can get it done/lots of scouting)
Moose 1-Nov 30
The thing I’ve been struggling with is scouting time, I have been spending all of my time lately with goats and elk (same area) and have not done much at all with the moose which has got me a little worried.
-
10 for both goat and moose
Your parents started applying for you at 9? You passed the test pretty early, congrats.
-
If it was me I would forget the elk scouting, or assign it to a buddy or family member. I would also look at scheduling time to hunt moose during the rut. You know where the goats are for the most part. I think the moose is the most difficult to locate because of their range and the access to private land. Just my two cents on how I would approach a season of a lifetime.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over the lack of scouting for moose. By Nov. 1st all but maybe a couple tag holders will be tagged out so you will likely have all kinds of guys offering to let you know where they went and saw. The leaves will be falling off the trees so looking through them will be much easier, and about that time of year the bulls start grouping up together again, making them easier to locate as well. Last year the later it got the more bulls we started spotting. A lot of the Gov. tag moose holders didn't even start hunting until Nov, there is a reason for that so relax, you will be fine :twocents: ;)
-
yea i was 8 or 9 when i went through hunters ed, my dads not so happy he put me in all those years cause i have 2 oil tags now, and hes been putting in his hole life and never got one :chuckle:
-

Not to mention all the money Dad shelled out for you to get to this point ;) I'm assuming Dad will be coming along on the hunts? :chuckle:

:yeah:
With that in mind, as well as the fact that you can essentially hunt the entire season, I would not settle on a goat by October 1 if you haven't find a trophy yet. Keep hunting into October, you will definitely be able to find a bull moose come November.
-
thanks for the info guys im starting to feel better about the moose situation
-
Getting close guys, hows the sleep coming? :chuckle:
-
Better not be sleeping much, just over a month away and the fun will begin.
-
Phool - we also have BillyG with a Mt. Baker West tag.
-
Thanks Shanevg, got it. Anyone else see any missing oil tag hunters from the list?
Incidently I added the raffle tags last night but had to remove Wea300 from his Eastside Elk >:(
-
Getting close fellas, losing sleep yet? :chuckle:
-
Sixteen more days until I leave for Idaho moose. I talked the wife into a new freezer and a new commercial cuber so I hope the moose are out
-
17d until I set up my Moose camp, am looking forward to it. Getting surprisingly more calm by focusing on archery elk in Idaho.
-
havent lost sleep yet, been busy chasing animals and scouting ;) deffinately looking forward to having a couple of weeks off!!
-
This was me last year at this time.

-
I drew a 49 Degrees North moose tag.
-
hey mvstoecker, u check any of the areas I told u about?
-
Has anyone heard of any sheep havest yet?
-
Shane, I haven't had a chance to get back over since I scouted in August. I really appreciate the info though. I will hit that area first when I go over next week. My son is playing high school football so I have to catch his game Friday night before I go over after. As important as this hunt of a life time is I gotta keep my priorities straight. It's killing both of us he can't join in. I will hunt until the following Friday then go back in November if I don't find a big one. I will keep you posted on the hunt. In case you can't tell I am not the most gifted computer guy. Good luck to all in your hunting adventures.
-
Hey, I'm new here, appreciate the help, and I've got the raffle goat tag. Thanks. I am looking to Goat Rocks

ill let you know who to pay when i find out i still need that sheep tag :chuckle:
we had bulls talking the last week of the season we had fun and called in a few got busted by some dandy bulls. it was hard to shoot cows after being on bulls everyday and the late hunt for cows is way to fun but if i would of had a gimmy shot i probly would of done the same the last few days. i was suprised we dident see any elk behind conrad when we were hikeing in for my goat hunt we herd em though both mornings
-
man we really never hear them we seem to always bump into them and i shot that calf at 3 yards i am a instictive shooter by nature so i just canted the x force at 3 yards as it ran by so it was sure a giveme shot lol best of luck 2 you guys and when you find that guys number for the tags give me a call
-
Looks like they are finally hitting the ground
-
Anyone know of someone with a 49DN tag? Got info on a couple 50"+ bulls but 180-grain tagged out already.
-
huntinphool did you forget about me? I just came to town to dry out after the last couple of days. The wind is about to blow us out anyways.....welllllll........are we talking about one of the spots you talked about earlier?
-
Just an FYI, I have been updating the list and posting the pics of the successful hunters as they come in. Go to the first post to see the critters on the ground. 180-grain, if you have a larger file of your pic email it to me huntnphool@aol.com
-
Don’t forget about crossing off my goat
Almost had a moose to go with it on Saturday about 36"+ good paddles and good fronts just couldn’t pull the trigger on the first day especially after all the monsters people are posting up
-
Did you post a pic of the goat?
-
yea
http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,34838.0.html

Thanks, got it added
-
Those are some great trophys, I want me one of those OIL tags really bad.

Hello:
I'm backlash from Western Wash, I drew a Selkirks tag, Rifle. Ive been out of state for awhile and haven't been on line to check things out. I hope this helps you out.
-
welcome to the site and make sure to send pictures and a story it;s what we live for.
-
Out of state draw from "North Carolina" Hangman rifle. Any Moose!
Make it RED! I got permission to post a photo.
Man's name is Allen.
-
Okay, which one of you are the tag holder and which one is from NC?
-
Did I miss the pic of the N.C. bull?
-
pm'd it to you.
-
bone seen any sheep lately?
-
I am a new member as of a couple weeks ago. Just looking through this post--here is the Mica Moose that I took archery on the 2nd. 42" wide.
-
Nice one Deke
-
Congrats to all you moose/goat/sheep hunters! Looks like WA is still pumping out some big moose :) Can't wait to get my tag...
-
Deke, Mark shared the video with me Friday of your hunt! Super footage!!! Congratulations Deke!
-
I just got done talking to a buddy of mine he has 2 differant Meese 1 in close to Springdale on some private ground he has and the other is just north of Wanderemere in Spokane. Asked me if I knew of any one with a tag? He is a retired school wood shop teacher and has estimated them at close to 45+. Let me know and I will get him in touch with you.
-
Very nice of you Ridgeratt. I have lines on one in the 52" range and one about 40" with double droppers.
-
Let's not be shy, do tell, I am willing to take any info you are so willing to give. Do still have a tag in my pocket! This has been one heck of a hunt. I have been very selective for no other reason other than I will never get this tag again and want to drag it out as long as possible. ha ha. have video of over 30 bulls and some real jim dandy's.
thanks

Backlash Selkirk Moose Rifle

Lets see some pics Backlash, congrats!
-
Will put it up when we have the pic Backlash, congrats.

Anyone heard from Elkric and how he did on his Selkirk Moose tag? I met him while packing up my camp and gave him a few area's to check, was wondering if anyone knew how he did. I sent him a pm a week ago but have heard nothing. Hope he tagged a good one.
-
Last day for OIL tags?
-
Looks like lots of great animals taken, congrats to all the hunters.
-
Still a few tags unaccounted for, anyone heard how any of the one's who haven't posted did?
