Title: Good turkey hatch
Post by: baldopepper on June 30, 2024, 06:34:02 PM
Two hens in the front yard this morning- 15 poults.  One hen in back yard with 8 poults.  Still only about the size of a quail, but plenty active.

Saw my first batch yesterday, 2 hens with about 13.  Several about the size of 6 week old chicken chicks and 6 or 7 about the size of small quail.

Had 2 hens walk past the house this morning. I only saw poults with one hen. But she had about 8 little softballs with her.

That is good.  A average clutch is 12 max 15.  Most turkey bio like Michael Chamberlin have said that by 6 months a hen will maybe 2 make it out of her clutch.  Predators is the most common cause weather would be next.  If a poult were to get wet in the first month of hatch they will most likely die of hypothermia if they don't get dried off and warmed up.
