Title: Landowner Cow Tag Sought
Post by: RilePrecise on July 19, 2024, 07:55:18 AM
Morning folks! Was over on Rokslide looking for a WA cow tag or two for myself and a buddy (who is a veteran, if that matters) and they suggested trying here. Just looking to fill the freezer. Any help is appreciated!

I would look at other states.  Maybe call Dale at Bearpaw outfitters (owner of this site) and see if he has cow hunts available in Idaho, Montana, or other states they guide in.

I would suggest figuring out what farmers get depredation tags. And good luck getting one. They usually give them out to friends and family. Other than that you’ll probably be outta luck

Since we are handing out landowner tags, sign me up.  We are all hoping to fill the freezer and most of us put time into scouting and/or knocking on doors.

If someone happened to know of a landowner handing out tags, they sure wouldn't just give the information to a random first post on here.  Good luck, I guess you never know the answer to a question unasked, but seems you have your answer now.

Me too! I'll take 2. And while we are at it I would like any large shed antlers that are taking up space

You can buy elk sheds just as easy as you can elk tags. Most folks don’t have either the money or the want to do so.

I'll show you a legal animal.
6" paper plate at 20 yards.
.
10" at 15..
.
And then we go looking for mushrooms
And chances are you will go home meatless.
.
Oregon is a better option.

I can't imagine too many land owners would be willing to give away a depredation tag.  They aren't the easiest thing to get in the first place.  If you are trying to get one for your own land then you need to start early and document the heck out of the damage the elk are doing.  Fish and Wildlife will argue till they are blue in the face, right up until you pull out photos and quote damage costs.  Then common sense usually prevails.
