Title: Water pump impeller
Post by: TSLPE on July 31, 2024, 08:48:48 AM
Buddy has a Yamaha 9.9 4 stroke. Can't get the lower unit to separate to get to impeller. Believe it just has the 4 bolts and the shift linkage. Have watched numerous you tube videos. Shouldn't be that hard to separate them. Any ideas to get them apart?

Does it have the zinc on the underneath of the anti cav plate? My bigger motor has a hidden bolt under that

I just checked mine out and looks to be correct.  4 bolts and linkage.

Shaft spline is probably corroded.

Put it back together. Run it and warm it up. Work the linkage
Immediately try and disassemble.

Tap around the lower unit with a dead blow or rubber mallet. Even tapping down on the cavitation plate. You can smack them pretty good, but be careful and don't abuse it. It'll come off. Just need to get it started. I usually work around the lower part of the lower unit. It puts mire force up high without a ton of abuse. Tap. Side to side and front to back also.
