Let’s get this one rolling. I was offered a damage elk tag for my 11 year old daughter Rylee so we went out yesterday evening to see what we could find in the orchard. Walking through the rows we came across a single elk feeding about 80 yards away. Quick(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240824/841e996c0b0c0a40b0effba28d763487.jpg)
look over we thought it was a small yearling cow from last year. Perfect. Rylee made a perfect lung shot and had her first elk on the ground! We got up to the elk and realized it was from this year, but she is super happy and we couldn’t be any more proud of her!(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240824/1136cbb59e00dcc2c27fc1ad5ca125a0.jpg)

Finally got it done with a bow. This is my first animal taken with a bow. Only took me 12 points to draw the multi-season tag and the extra funds to buy the tag for me to shoot a spike on opening day of the first season. :chuckle: Very thankful for the meat and to get to share the experience with my family.
-
Good sized spike too! Congrats
-
A true unicorn
Congrats👍
-
Congratulations!! Really nice spike!
-
I did that with a deer multi tag several years ago. Took a week off to start archery and had another week and a half scheduled later and shot a buck a half hour into shooting light on the opener. Congrats on the success, especially with the kids there.

Hey man great bull I was the guy camping in the road on your way out . Pretty sure that was you? Ended up killing a cow out of that same herd the next morning, since there was no bulls left in it :chuckle:.

I understand your reservation but keep in mind you are hunting a season with generally single digit or low teens success percentage. Any bull is a trophy in my opinion. I've been at it for 8 years now and still haven't connected. Both trophies from this guys perspective. Congratulations to you both!
-
Both are great bulls!
-
Ok so I'm guessing this guy isn't on the site so I'll post his elk up. This was shot somewhere in Washington this year. It's a gorgeous bull.

That's a nice bull. Congrats.

Man, great job on that bull! I would be proud to put my tag on that guy!
It truly doesn’t matter the size. I shoot the first legal elk that I have a chance at. Any elk with a bow is a true trophy! People dont realize how hard it is to kill these majestic creatures! Luck is a huge factor.

Don't take me the wrong way. I am totally proud of my bull and I am very grateful that I had a chance to harvest him. It is definitely a challenge and some luck to get one on the ground. I just had a little antler envy.

Found success on Sunday, on the west side. Had great help from friends both calling elk in and packing this one out.

Had grouse hunting go terribly wrong yesterday. A bathroom stop and a location bugle turned into an evening of work.
Highlight of the day was getting to meet @Dan-o and his son though. I sure like that feller :brew:

Good eats 👍

Nice job Karl and that was really funny.
-
First kill with the new gun. First with the Leupold RDS. 100 yards calmly feeding broadside. Double lung, dropped in less than 40 yards or so.

Perfect

First muzzy bull in the books. Leupold RDS is a game changer. Caught him chasing 3 cows on a flat. 100 yards shot and a thor bullet dropped him in his tracks. Found a mechanical Broadhead stuck in his shoulder blade. Half mile packout from the truck was a blessing :IBCOOL:.

You only had to hike 9 miles to shoot that bull .5 miles from the gate. I'm sure that's just how you planned it. :chuckle:
Pretty cool you had him on camera. Great job D

Here’s my personal contribution to this thread. 2024 eastern WA muzzy cow tag filled! Funny story about this one. We were flanking a herd with a bull screaming trying to get the wind right to slip in front and hope a cow pushed by. Well he pushed his cows down the ridge quick and we were just never able to get good wind. We had heard some cows mewing down below us back up the ridge so we swung down below and worked up the ridge and setup to do a cold calling setup with lost cow/calf sounds. About 10 minutes later I hear a stick break directly below me so I start watching. A bit odd because it’s perfectly down wind of us. Pretty soon a see a hunter through the brush and then couldn’t see him anymore. I sat there a bit waiting to see what they did, and they started cow calling. A little while later they start heading back out. Literally that exact moment I hear a stick up above us. Look up and see 2 cows sneaking down the ridge about 50 yards away. I get ready and the cow steps into my opening and I drop her in her tracks. I end up going up and shooting her one more time in the base of the head
to anchor her for good. The other hunters come up and one says, “Hey, you’re Buglebuster from huntwa” I said sure am and we introduce ourselves. Good people! Sorry @harleysboss for making you *censored* your pants when I shot that cow, it just happend so fast

@Karl Blanchard
I guarantee you, the pleasure was all ours.
Sharing camp was a highlight, even if you do shoot 1 elk per 2 hours invested.
I can't thank you enough for taking my son in after those elk.
He loved every minute of it.
Per my son, Karl did everything humanly possible to position and reposition my son to shoot the elk while Karl called, but the elk eventually insisted that Karl shoot it.
And they eat so much better than Mule Deer!

Got really lucky this year and drew a quality tag...
Also want to say thanks to a lot of great members of this forum for pointing me in the right direction when I drew the tag. Could not have done it without that help as I only had a few weekends to scout, and their insight gave me some great starting points.

Congrats on a beautiful Roosevelt's elk, that is a big bodied bruiser right there. Everything about that picture is olympic peninsula, from the red antlers, the body size andmass, to your rubber gloves and rain gear lol. That elk was no doubt earned.
-
Congrats to your Daughter Ron! Awesome bull! Looks like you guys are settling in quite nicely over there!

That’s actually WA. Headed back to ID on Sat.

Thank you, yeah it surely was a classic, soggy Peninsula hunt. Lots of foot work and a two day pack out. He was a bruiser for sure and definitely felt earned. I’ve spent a lot of time elk hunting, but that’s the first bull I’ve personally shot. Feeling a lot of gratitude.

Alkali Quality Bull taken on 10/29 in training area 16. I've taken several spikes and cows but this is my first branched bull.
This was a difficult hunt due to the nature of the training center. The last 5 days were action packed with elk. I've never seen bachelor groups of bull during hunting season before. I saw several, groups of 8 to 18.
This bull was with 13 other bulls including a 380 class bull. Due to it being the last day of the season I didn't wait out the big bull as the wind was shifting on me. One shot at 225 yards with the .300 RUM.

Congrats
Sounds like you had a hoot of a time

We have one giant standup and one chest freezer that’s so big you can put 3 elk in it alone. Then the freezer above our refrigerator. This elk is going to my father in laws, he didn’t get one this year.

This was my first bull with a muzzleloader during general season. This hunt went from hearing nothing to 5 different bulls screaming their heads off. He was the first one to come in, so he got put in the dirt. Hope I can be successful like this for years to come to keep putting elk meat in the freezer.

Nice spiker
Congrats
Tasty and tender

Little 2024 elk success tonight. Fried tenderloin in butter and garlic from my daughters cow she got this year.

That tenderloin looks pretty good teacher man

That tenderloin looks pretty good teacher man
It was, and I ate way too much. Roasted squash and brussel sprouts with it. Was also able to make a good sized plate for lunch tomorrow. Can’t wait to eat it in the teacher lounge, it’s perfectly medium rare 😂

Oh Man! Good for you!!! -- Retired teacher here.... The teacher lounge is great fun!... Reheated venison and they want the recipe ...but some are squeamish and need educated.... Microwaved/reheated salmon and cod, on the other hand, is another story.... I guess it taints their cup-o-noodles.... :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :dunno: :IBCOOL:

2024 Quality cow elk tag.
Very tough hunt,no snow, lots of people recreation going on.
Made the hunt a little ruff. Got it done second to last day.
Finding elk was easy, very hard to find one on public.
Learned a lot about elk hunting.
Only elk I have ever harvested.
Only animal I quartered,so definitely learning.
First permit filled, quality deer, spring bear I failed.

Sweet bud! Congrats!

Forgot to post but shot September Friday the 13th. First elk and packed out solo. Learned how to hunt 5 years ago and has become my obsession. I’ll probably never take a bigger bull and I can’t feel more blessed.Scored 291 after subtracting and 305 before

2024 archery cow in a unit I have never stepped foot in shot my first morning at 7 yards. Pretty epic morning hunt.
-
I ate my elk tag this year, but thankfully got a healthy portion of salvage elk meat to go with it! This young 5x5 had the misfortune of totaling someone's car in Naches about a month ago, and a neighbor got the salvage tag. I offered to help him cut it up and he was extremely gracious in the amount of meat he sent me home with. It was the talk of the town around here for sure, and a cool experience getting to meet some neighbors I wouldn't otherwise have gotten to interact with.
