Well I started this thread last year with my archery buck so why not keep tradition alive this year doing the same
opening day archery buck today right about noon. Heading back to the truck and my buddy calls me and says there’s 2 bucks coming my way that they bumped to get ready. I set up predicting 2 spots they could come through and had them ranged. 30 seconds later here they come I drew my bow and stopped the deer, 30 yard frontal and he dropped in his tracks! Best part was my 11 year old daughter was standing next to me and witnessed the whole thing! Got him worked up quick and made the mile pack back to the truck and got him on ice. Luckily for friends help in this 98 degree heat! (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240901/8cf57e0b6a8705130813b22a99149f94.jpg)

I was waiting for this post, congrats brother!!
-
Nice buck congratulations
-
And it begins! Congrats
-
Nice work as usual
-
Congrats, and surely theres another member sitting on their photo of their successful hunt?!! Post it up!
-
Well the wife and I watched this buck all summer, he was definitely the bully of the group pushing does and younger bucks away. The buck made the mistake of walking in at 20 yds and ran only 100yds before tipping over
-
Great bucks! Congrats!
-
That’s a great start to the season! Nice work
-
Gorgeous mature mulely!
-
Thats 2 I know there's more. Congrats to the hunters
-
Great job to both of you!
-
Nice
-
Well it was a late night again! Wind, rain, thunder and lightning made it fun tonight, my wife made a decent shot on this big guy, her first archery deer
-
All 3 very nice deer, Congrats! Neat to see two of the 3 hard horned already...
-
Awesome deer!!!

My best archery whitetail!
-
Nice job!
-
Nice one, think that’s the first WT posted this year.
-
Just an uncle and his nephew making life time memories. My little brothers first year archery and my boy and I were able to watch the whole thing unfold from a couple hundred yards away.
-
Nice bucks everyone. Keep em comin'
-
Great Job all
-
Great bucks, and love to see the kids getting involved.
-
Great to see the early success, good job everyone!
-
My best archery whitetail!
Beautiful and that'll be one great eating buck! Did you hit the spine with that shot?
-
Not sure if he ducked or I pulled my shot a little high but yes it it him in the spine. The steaks we have eaten off him so far have been awesome!
-
Not mine but something to keep you going. Buddy sent me pics of his and his girlfriends they got last week on consecutive evenings. Taxi bill gonna be high
-
[quote author=brew. That's awesome! Mine and my wife's bucks were less then 24hrs apart, definitely feeling it with the taxidermy bill, gonna be close to $1500 for both bucks

Nice bucks.

Awesome! I live on the west side and have two kids and a demanding job, so east side travel is not really an option for me. How many people get out after blacktail with early season archery? Is that even a thing? And if so, is it stand hunting only? I imagine "spot and stalk" isn't really a thing when you are either stuck in the jungle or trying to navigate noisy cut-debris.

Tree stand is a great way to hunt Blacktail, especially low land. You can spot and stalk though if you get up in to the alpine areas of the western slopes of the Cascades from the Canadian border clear down to the Klickitatat
-
Nice little 4x5 came in with his buddies opening morning.
13 yard shot quartering away. In the last rib, out the neck. Liver, one lung, and cut the arteries off the heart. He went 40 and piled up in sight.
-
Nice one jasnt. It's funny that a guy with a profil pic that says "ELR junkie....1000 yds...." shoots a deer at the extreme range of....13 yds. Haha. You've got both ends of the spectrum covered! Nice job on the deer.
-
Nice buck bud , where the hell you been ?
-
A man after my own heart jasnt…….hunting in loafers. Several times I have left for a hunt realizing I still had my slip ons on.
Congrats on a nice buck.

Glassed this guy bedded under a cliff put the sneaks on and was able to punch my tag! Best part was having my 10yo son with me to experience it all.

Got this 3x3 yesterday in the rain storm.
-
Many days and many miles later we found a nice one! Huge thanks to "L," a hunter who we ran into who pointed us in the direction where we found this guy. He snuck up behind us while glassing at 6:20 this morning and AJ made a nice quick shot at 30 yards.
-
Great buck with some really cool character. Congratulations!

Dream scenario :chuckle:

My muzzy buck 2024.
Awesome buck, congrats!!

First mule deer, and first muzzleloader tag.
Shot just after first light. He was in a group and all I needed to see was the third tine. More than happy to walk up to him and see a 4x4. After lots of spikes and 2x2 blacktail this guy was HUGE.

That’s a heck of a first mulie!!
-
Southwest Wyoming buck. When they said deer numbers were down from the bad winter 2 years ago, they weren’t kidding. About a 75% reduction to what we normally see but all of the doe’s have fawns so hopefully a recovery will occur.
-
My 2024 addition. He just squeaked out to a 3x3. :chuckle:

My sons first deer! 35yd shot with his bow.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20241007/7388f15c0d34b386115731df314722dd.jpg)

2nd muzzy buck. Saturday morning, was more than happy to not have to take my multiseason tag into rifle season an battle the pumpkin patch.

Oregon 2024 in the Ches.
2nd best buck I've seen in the unit over 8 days of scouting, and the other was on private. I've glassed this basin from the west side three times but decided to drop way down to a knob on the east side of it Sunday morning to avoid looking into the sun. Listened to the advice of Robby Denning on the Rokcast and have been getting to my glassing knobs 30 minutes before shooting light. Made a huge difference, if I had gotten in later I bet he would have spotted me getting down to the glassing knob.
Spotted him bedded on an east facing open slope below me 20 minutes before shooting light. Watched him feed around the end of the ridge and made the move down. Ended up spotting him again on a west facing slope at 260 quartering away and feeding. Butt scooched into a spot where I could get prone and see over the grass, dialed 0.8 mils and sent a 143 ELD-X his way. Hearing the "thwack" of the bullet hitting is incredible thanks to the suppressor. Easily able to spot the shot too.
Bang flop due to being a little high, went through spine and far shoulder. Bullet performed as expected, jacket and core separated and caught in the offside hide. He rolled 400 vertical feet down the slope. Thankful nothing broke off. Wound channel similar to all other kills with this bullet. Didn't get to look into the vitals, once I got three quarters off he started to slide downhill more and the last rear quarter was tough to remove being solo and with nothing to tie him off to.
2200' vert and 3.3 miles back to the truck, two trips. Used my @rainshadow1 knife to butcher. Performed great, really like the shape of the blade. Wish I had my worksharp sharpener for the second half though. My mistake.
And if you're wondering where they go all day, this is the bed I think he was headed to. Would have been hard to spot him anywhere on this slope, impossible in that bed.
-
Great bucks everyone.

This page was left blank intentionally :bash:

Just saving your spot to add your success photo later. I would want the internet to run out of room before I posted my pic either. Smart very smart.

Most effort I've ever put into harvesting a target buck. During archery a mountian lion messed up my chance. Muzzy season i hit him low and he survived. Tonight he made a mistake a came out chasing a doe.

2 Nice Bucks

Not the biggest buck but oh how he made it hard on me! Sly and sneaky! Should of had him many of times but he kept giving me the slip!
-
Helped my brother in law get his first buck yesterday. The first of many, I hope!
Pin wheeled him 454 yards with the trusty .270 win and got a great phoneskope video of it. Now just need to get the wife on one.

pretty bleak hunt for us honestly. Only saw half a dozen bucks and killed the two biggest BY FAR. Heat and full moon didn't help any. Hopefully some colder weather moves in for you before the season ends.

We had a pretty great rifle season this year! We started out opening evening with my son taking his third buck after a several hour sit in the direct sun waiting for his buck to stand up out of his bed. Once the buck stood my son laid down a perfect 330 yard heart shot, dropping right back into his bed. After that me and my son spent our time finding a first buck for my great friends eleven year old daughter, last year she was able to take her first doe. We were spread out a couple hundred yards glassing a canyon when this mule deer buck came sneaking below me. I was able to direct them into rifle range without the buck noticing. She took her shot at 120 yards, the buck went about 80 yards and stopped offering her second shot which hit perfect and finished the job. After that we were out of youth tags to fill and still had several days to hunt so it was Bobby’s turn to hunt. We got close on a couple much smaller buck that we had found in the days prior but weren’t able to get his daughter on. Luckily those didn’t work out for him either, we had not seen this buck before, neither had any of the other guys hunting around us. My son gets the credit for spotting this buck, and putting Bobby on him. This is his first deer! he has only been hunting for two season now
-
Not sure how I haven't done it yet but finally broke into the 30" club in ID last week.
Nice buck! Only been out twice this year, have seen some decent bulls but only small bucks. Holding out
pretty bleak hunt for us honestly. Only saw half a dozen bucks and killed the two biggest BY FAR. Heat and full moon didn't help any. Hopefully some colder weather moves in for you before the season ends.
Those are both very very nice Idaho bucks.
-
Karl, that's a pretty good year. Congrats on a couple of great bucks.
-
JBurkett, that's a great Whitey! Congrats!
Awesome bucks all! Lots of good ones this year!
-
Shot this nice blacktail on the 15th. My son's best friend from childhood helped my get it out whole which was a choir. Probably should have taken better pictures as it was my best yet by far.
-
Nice blacktail, Ryanfam!
Well, now you can hang the deer whole for good aging. Hopefully it makes the effort worth it!
-
Wow, great blacktail Ryanfam! Story?

Big old mature blackie, think he might have started regressing.👍

Karl, those are two magnificent bucks! A Booner year for you for sure! Hopefully Montana will produce for you too if you drew a tag!

Great job! Congratulations! That first deer is such a feeling of accomplishment.

Chased him all season. Rut definitely started to kick off the last 3 days.

masher. nice buck!

Got it done today on Whidbey. Buck walked right to me grunting through the brush.

Shot this guy with my Samsung S22 as he bounded away this morning! :chuckle:

That's an awesome looking buck.
-
Yeah, a young guy with really spindly antlers but he has serious potential.

WHOA. Can you please share more of this story?! Where were you set up? Stand/blind/brush? Were you rattling/grunting/using any scents? What time of day? That deer has some real character!

Take a screen shot and post the screen shot. It should end up rightside up instead of upside down

Yeah I am stunned - I love that thing. I don't know if it's the camera angle or what but it almost has an elk-like characteristic with the way the antler appears to sweep backward
-
That is a gnarly buck. I hope we get to see other pictures.

Thanks for the comments, he's a pretty good deer for Whidbey. Have a couple cams up and hadn't seen this guy. I had a couple hours and the wind was coming from the east, ideal for a bedding area that had been logged about 5-7 years ago. Came in real slow, take a couple steps, stop etc. It's basically ocean spray, rosebrush, and small fir. About 0 minutes in, I was coming into the main bedding area and heard some long grunts or growls. Sure enough, I could see this guy coming out of the bedding area in heavy brush at 50 yards and he was coming right to me.
Stopped behind a bush and checked my scope mag and waited. He grunted and growled the whole way in. Always knew where he was as I kept losing him in thick cover. At about 30 yards he gave me a frontal shot, but I held off. There was one more spot where I could have a neck shot (my preferred shot under 50 with my savage 220) or broadside. Unfortunately, he took a slightly different trail than I expected, but he gave me one last shot quartering to me at about 20 yards. I placed the scope on his right shoulder and fire.
The buck staggered back and then ran south. I chambered a second round and waited. After about 20 seconds, I heard a crash and could hear him breathing heavy. I waited 0 minutes and then went to where I *censored* him and placed my marks for the shot and last place I heard him. Surprisingly, a doe stood up 10' from me, even after the shot and his crashing in the brush...guess that's why he was there.
No scents, calls, bait etc. Just know the area, had the wind and got lucky. Like I said, got some cameras up and I have several BT ghosts on them, not this guy. I'm fortunate I have access to property here, this isn't a public land buck.
-
That’s a dandy! :IBCOOL:

Wife’s first buck. Time to go hit it hard these last few days and look for mr big!

Congratulations Mrs. Buck Rub Jr!

Thanks! She’s pretty stoked, only a day and a half to hunt. Found a handful of bucks yesterday but no shots! Today was a good day, big smiles!

Awesome buck, Rory!

Thanks guys. It was a fun hunt that ended with that ancient old monarch leaving the woods on our backs. I would say he is certainly regressed from his prime, based on the mass he has, and his teeth worn flat to the gums. I'll post a write up on it later today maybe.

Nothing fabulous here just bases that are as round as a water bottle. Great buck 7mm!!!

Thank you! Another shot of him

Lots of nice blacktails being harvested. Congratulations.

Only had one day to hunt so I took off October 30th. Got to spot and crept up on a herd of five does in their usual haunt. I observed them for a while and no buck. They slipped off to bed so I waited to see if any bucks were trailing the does and sure enough this buck shows up trailing them like a hound dog running and scent checking their trail. Shot him at about 40 yards as he took the same path that the does did across me. Grateful for the harvest.

Especially hiking in with my twins...

I had an issue with a bullet in the past. I called the manufacturer which was federal. They had me send it back for them to view. They sent me a brand new box of bullets. I know it doesn't take back what you could have shot but at least you get a box of bullets out of it hopefully. I would love to hear the outcome if you contact the manufacturer
-
Hand loads... believe me they owe me at least a half gallon.

I’ve only used federal for primers and out of thousands of hand loads never had one not go bang. Terrible timing

I've had a bad run with a recent brick of fed 210's. Last range trip was Saturday with my daughter and out of 50 rounds she shot we had 6 not go boom. Stripped the bolt mid session to check for any obstructions and all was normal. Setting that brick aside for range ammo.
Don't beat your buddy up too bad about it. Could be as simple as a bad primer or even on you if you've got crud in your bolt assembly. If you've got a friend willing to spend his time reloading for you treat him well because it's a time consuming endeavor. :twocents:
-
Crazy last 2 days of the season for my son and I. After my son shot the spike this bear got to it before we did, drug it 200 yards down the hill, then didn't want to give it up. Went back to the same area the next day and the 3 point showed up.

I'm not beating him up at all. Just a heart breaker to have my twins with me and get the one bad round in the backpack. Wasn't ment to be. He'll be a toad next year.

yeah man that's absolutely a heart breaker. To do everything right only to be steam rolled by a bad round is tragic.

One year my dad and I were muzzleloading and we spotted a cow elk out in the tall grass in the scablands. We put up the binos and could see hundreds of more heads in the grass. So we checked the wind and the cover and decided to put a stalk on them. We got up to about 60 yards from where we knew they were at last and got on our knees and peered over the rocks we came up behind. There was that cow, still standing chewing cud. The wind was pretty harsh so they had no idea we were even there and were just hunkered down for the time being. Well I got up and fired but only my primer went off! Dang it! The elk all started standing up and looking around and when a spike stood up my dad decided he was gonna shoot too. He shot at that spike from about 45 yds and then they all just jumped up and ran. Right to the road where some guys jumped out and shot 4 of them... argh! Well when we got back to the pickup a buddy of ours showed up because we called him and told him we were headed out after some elk we spotted. So him and my dad are talking and my dad takes off his sling and points his gun towards the ground and his bullet just falls out in the gravel! :yike: So his buddy says " What the hecks that about I wonder?" Well after getting home and putting calipers on his sabots and bullets he figured out he had two mismatched sets of each. He had let a local kid borrow his gun and gear cuz the kid wanted to try muzzleloading and the kid, being a good person, decided to run to the store and buy my dad some extra sabots and bullets. Well some of those bullets were .44 and some were .45. Lesson learned there. He must have just fired his plastic sabot at that spike. :dunno: We never got another opportunity at the elk that season either.

2024 Halloween buck. Unfortunately it took us 24 hours after the shot to find him. Nathan recruited some friends and one of their dad's to come over and help us grid. We spread out 5 wide and my boy walked right to him. 112 yards from the fence line.

Awesome gnarly buck!

All these nice blacktail are driving me nuts haha, knew it would be a good Westside season. But I'm on the Eastside after my quality tag mulie. Saw one I'd take witbout question today. Too bad he was on private. So it goes, haha.
-
Last day Eastern Washington Mulie.
Headed off the hill to go home and this guy stands up out of his bed above the road. Better to be lucky than good sometimes. Tank of a body on this buck and a goofy passenger side antler.
-
That's an old warrior of a buck @steeleywhopper
Congrats.
-
Redi that buck is amazing! Awesome deer, congrats to your son.

Ok Steelywhopper, gonna need details on that buck. What's his age? How many teeth was he missing? Can we get a better look at that crazy side!? Nice buck!

Yeah and now he's holding out on us! We need another view of that buck!

I’ll show one

Thanks! That's one of the coolest antlers I have ever seen! I have a whitetail shed that looks like that in my pile. I assume it damaged its pedicle or near the base and then it still grew but in that deformed style. Again, thanks for sharing!

Sorry it's been busy with work and getting ready for elk. I have a tooth aging kit on the way from the Anti-hunters at WDFW so we'll have to see how old the fat guy was. One of the other members got video of this buck a week before I shot him, pretty cool to see.
Thanks Jake for throwing up the other picture. I'm keeping the Golden Horeshoe where it's at as I might need it for the elk hunt this weekend  Stay tuned!

My quality deer tag punched. Beyond stoked. Huge shout out to those that helped with advice. 150 yards, hit the ground where he stood. Was an absolutely awesome hunt and I had just as much fun watching all the deer everywhere.

Got this guy on 10-15. Shot seemed good but he jumped up when I walked up to him and got into thick reprod without giving me a follow-up shot. Decided to leave overnight and let my young pup try to find him in the morning. Took her to where I last saw him and she led me to him in 10 minutes or so. Shot was back, vaporized the liver. He went about 60-70 yards.

Not a Coastel one. It’s was in the Baker Lake area, Nooksack Late Quality Permit.
For some reason that unit doesn’t have a modern late buck hunt, or an archery late buck hunt. I drew the quality late buck modern permit.
-
Our last submission to this thread for the year. My wife filled her late whitetail permit this morning with a great 462 yard shot. We got into position of him bedded and waited him out. The second he stood and stretched, she put him right back in his bed. We’re 4 for 4 in WA for bucks in our household. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20241110/69fa0a1fae22f2f9e60e63a6c65e450b.jpg)

First Oregon blacktailed deer! He was a young guy, but I only had two Saturdays to hunt during Oregon's fairly generous any-weapons season. Also, I was carry an open-sights muzzleloader, as my good deer rifle is back with a gunsmith friend in eastern Washington.
I had hiked slowly into a timber company tree farm of ~1000 acres close to our new home. I set up with rattling and grunting in several locations, with no result (this was November 2nd). I then turned around and worked slowly into the wind back towards the truck, glassing and listening. Just about last light, in a thinned stand of Douglas-fir, I had found a wide deer trail, and was following it slowly when I heard the sound of twigs snapping. A young buck appeared in the evening mist, coming up over the ridge from dense brush and timber below. He came broadside at 35 yards and likely caught my movement as I dropped to a kneeling position. He swapped ends, and stood looking, broadside the other direction. I pulled the trigger- blacktails don't offer too many opportunities!
I hit him a little high, and he did not leave a good blood trail. The night turned dark quickly as I reloaded the muzzy. Fortunately I spotted his "eye shine" with my headlamp fairly quickly- he had only gone 50 yards. I had forgotten the pack frame at home, so after field dressing, I drove home to get the dogs and the pack frame for an evening hike. I was able to carry his dressed carcass out. No fat on this buck, but the flavor of the venison is good!

I was wondering what the story was here. We lost a whitetail buck one year on a ridge where he died and fell down hill up under a huge root ball from a blown down ponderosa pine. We backtracked several times up the ridge then I decided to climb up on the root ball and walked right up on the dead buck! :dunno:

PB Muley to finish off the season
-
My son’s first buck, shot on the last day. Not a huge deer but I’m super excited for him to get his first buck in the books!
-
Got my first mule deer this year during the general season. A friend came through and helped me out tremendously with everything from spotting, helping with stalking, ranging, field dressing (gutless) and packing out four bone in quarters himself...it was a six hour spot and stalk before any of the post shot work began. Getting a mule deer was really cool, even cooler was being taught how to spot and stalk in that type of landscape.

Nice job dude. Being out there in that weather any blacktail is a trophy, especially compared to the tag soup crowd!

A freezer full of deer, that’s for sure! A couple out of state hunts for mule deer, one of which with my wife backpacked in. Blacktail here at home on October 30th.

Old news to some but I figured I would share anyways. Got this buck on the last day of general season rifle.
2024 OTC WA Buck.
I have a lot of thank yous to mention with this buck. This buck was the outcome of applying a lot of hard work, determination, knowledge learned through experience and others, and eventually God blessing me with an opportunity at the only buck I wanted this year. This buck may not break 200”, but I don’t care at all. His unique rack and nearly unhuntable habitat and ghostly habits will forever have a place in my heart. From the moment I got the first trail cam pic of him this year on May 20, I knew he was going to be a target, but little did I know he was going to turn into, in my opinion, one of the baddest bucks in the state. I had 11 cameras out for this buck, and he only ever showed up on 1 of them, and only 4x in a 5 month period. Only to be killed 50yds from a camera he was never on and 150yds from the only camera he was ever on. Standing 32yds from this buck while still hunting the deadfall ridden thick timber was a dream come true and I couldn’t be more thrilled about how it went down. Now, my thank yous…
1. I want to thank God for the ability and opportunity to be able to find and harvest this incredible animal in His creation.
2. Waylon for going up the mountain with me and sharing this incredible experience with me. Sharing jokes, taking pictures, and making quick work of the processing/pack out.
3. Gunner Graves, Bryce Boswell and Chris Naff for hunting and scouting with me and encouraging me to not give up on this buck.
4. Dioni and Martin for helping me strategize on how to pattern and locate this buck and get the job done.
5. @robbydenning and @ntrlbrnhunter for putting out so much valuable information on the @rokcastpodcast
For those that care, this buck rough scores at 190”.

Well, not a buck I would typically ever pull the trigger on, but I walked up on this buck at 84 yards while tracking a significantly larger buck, and he refused to get out of his bed and wouldn't lift his ears as he looked at me.
Based on his posture, I assumed something was wrong with him, so my empathetic side got the better of me and I put him out of his misery point blank. When I got up to him, I discovered someone had taken a head-on, or Texas heart shot, pop at him and blew a body-long wound through his buck-parts and through the length of his lower belly. Stunk like a mother, poor buck.
Folks really need to not take shots they're not confident in. This is the 3rd year in a row I've found wounded on the hoof, or dead, bucks that folks made poor shots on.

Most of it, he had these odd white ovals all over his brisket and neck meat that oozed black when cut open. Wasn't quite sure if that was safe to eat or not.
Curious was this rifle, muzzy or archery?

Based on the way his points round off like that is it possible he was wounded another way? Looks like he probably wasn’t healthy at the end of antler growing season in late July/early August

He was definitely messed up in multiple ways, he had what I believe were Fibromas on his left side as well. Black warty growths, two of them, one was brussel sprout size and the other about like an orange. I did not dissect or inspect after skinning. None to be found elsewhere.
That's in addition to the bullet wound and whatever was going on in his brisket/neck, which I think were some form of tumors or cancer.
He very much looked like he was ready to go before I pulled the trigger, especially since he didn't bust "point blank" or even fan me with his ears.
As best I could tell the rest of the meat was fine and clear.

Great deer everyone. Maybe we can get some updated pictures when everyone gets them mounted on the wall or back from the Taxidermist.
Here’s my Montana whitetail I shot after seeing almost no mule deer bucks over two or three years old. I did the euro mount and my brother cut out the plaque for me

Been MIA for the last few months. Life got crazy but figured I should throw my Montana buck on here. Left my house in the middle of the night, got to where I park just before daylight, headed in, killed this guy, two loads of meat back to the truck and I was done. Two pics are as he lays. Killed him up the hill and he ran, tumbled, rolled and ended up in the middle of the old road. Nice place to process a deer but the pack out was not as enjoyable.

My girls completed hunters ed this last year, the oldest 10 proved she was proficient enough with the 243 through practice to deer hunt this fall. My youngest is still in the rimfire stages of shooting but was exited to tag along and accompany her big sis. She still talks about her buck just about every day and is so proud, as am I in her.

He is a little busted up. Was a hell of a stalk closed to 25 yards. Didnt think there was any chance of closing into archery range. Wasnt sure when the stalk started if i was going to pass or not but almost an hour in and i couldnt be happier with my decision.

Here’s my 2024 buck, my second one now far enough west to be considered a true blacktail, though all the ones I have taken were far from the cascades! Killed the last weekend of October in some big timber, with thick enough underbrush I couldn’t see him bedded at 32 yards from me with my naked eye. Spotted him with my binos still hunting and glassing every few steps. I’d stopped after a 10 yard push through some brush and sat down on a stump and began glassing beginning from behind me(uphill) panning down below me to the river bottom I was hunting towards. I instantly spotted those bright orange antlers and face looking my way as I got to my downhill side, dropped the binos and grabbed my rifle, and told my wife “there’s a buck plug your ears”. Even after spotting him I couldn’t see him with my naked eye as he was bedded behind some ferns. As I got my rifle up and my crosshairs on his head hoping for a shot, he stood up and gave me a perfect frontal shot. 1 round into him and he dropped right back into his bed without a flinch, perfect heart shot. I got down to him and we said our prayers to God and the buck and talked a lot about the circle of life and how intense the taking of life is, how heavy an experience it is.
To top off the whole experience my wife asked if she could join me on this day for the first time in our 6 years together! She was a trooper all morning and heck of a helper packing him out. The adrenaline rush of blacktail will never wear off for me
-
Great deer everyone in here and thanks for all that have shared, I throughly enjoy falling this through the fall and admiring all the beautiful bucks Washington has to offer

Buck came out of Alberta. Spent my time there the last week in November in the heat of the rut. Passed a lot of bucks that week and still didn't get a giant but a beautiful buck. Love the dark antlers and big bodies up there.
