Post by: LDennis24 on September 05, 2024, 04:32:46 PM
I don't have any information besides it was supposedly struck by lightning! Was a nice mature buck.

It actually looks like it was cut in half with a laser!

Looks like the path of the voltage blew the front leg off the animal. The ground is charred under it as well.

I'm looking at the pic closer and in the top right you can see a coil of duplex or triplex power line. He got hit with a powerline is more likely and it fried on him until it burned him in half.  :dunno:

I’m guessing power line as well. When was a kid my dad and I camped out in a lightning storm. When we were hunting the next morning we found a deer laying dead fresh and untouched. We assumed struck by lightning.

Were they bedding in the same area or something? That would be freaky to see.

You got that special tag to fill, I hope you are not hunting powerlines right now :chuckle:

Would be interesting where the line originally made contact lokking at the burn marks on his neck.

I always took it with a grain of salt, but, I had an old heavy equipment technician tell me a story about a dump truck driver on a job site. Dumped his load and didn’t check for overhead lines before hand. Sounds like he made contact with the live wires, it shut down the truck, and he went to step out on the cab side step *poof*. I can’t remember what he said the voltage was on the lines. Turned the whole rig into a live wire when he made the connection.

We had lightning hitting all around us the deer was a couple hundred yards away. Also found a tree of fire.

I wonder if this had been a cougar if it would have counted against the quota for the PMU. Human related mortality because climate change..... :dunno: :bash:
