Was this in the Boulder area, seen a lot of crows flying in one area

Hello my name is Brent. I shot a very very nice bull on Monday and have been looking since then. It was in the328 area it was a good shot just couldn’t find him my arrow should still be in him minus the last 6-8 inches. I have the part that got broke off to prove it. Please please call me I’ve been sick over this. My number is +15094606718
-
Ooooh!
-
This would be awesome if the hunter could be found and recover the animal / antlers to hange his tag on. Sucks it happens, but that’s hunting.

Good on you, Brent. This is the honorable thing to do.
Archery is like this sometimes.

Man I hope you can connect the bull and the hunter that lost it. It would take the sting out of what could have been a hunt of a lifetime.

Wow! Good ending to an unfortunate situation. Good work fellas

Another great HuntWA let's work together thread. Great bull. I'm sure the hunter is relieved to have found it, meat or not.

Congratulations on a dandy bull. I'm glad you were able to find your animal and get some peace of mind that it wasn't suffering. Amazingly tough animals.

Fantastic Bull! Glad you found it!

Congrats glad you found your bull
If you don’t mind, please share the circumstances. Where was the hit, and how far did he travel? Did he end up in the general direction you thought or somewhere completely different?

This would be a great addition to this story. We could all learn from how this bull traveled after being hit.
Congrats to the hunter.
-
Amen to All. Wow. Love the outcome
-
Great bull, glad you found him. I know others that were not so fortunate in past years. I’ve gotta believe walking up and finding him was a very emotional moment after looking for days.

A back story would be interesting and probably educational for alot of us. Great outcome!

Very sad but awesome at the same time.
-
😱😱
Wow! What a bull. I wish you could have retrieved the meat, but good on you for keeping after it.
-
Happy ending. Thanks for sharing the pics. Nothing more beautiful than a typical, symmetrical 7x7
-
That’s great, you can imagine how you just know you would never see that animal again and then you’re reconnected. So cool.
-
Shout Out to Hunt-WA, this website is a great tool used correctly. This is a solid group of people. Life is tough, hunting is tough, it is awesome to see hunters helping hunters. That Bull is a dandy. Thank you to Dale and all the people that make this website possible. :brew:

We all feel sick when the animals don't cooperate, we shoot them and they fall over dead in their tracks. Isn't that how it is supposed to work? I hate when they cheat and run off and hide so well never to be found. Good on you for following through and congrats on an awesome bull.
-
Great bull! Thanks for posting a few pics.
-
This is awesome! Atta Boy for the fella that found it and wanted to find the Hunter.
And congrats to the hunter. The overall outcome wasn't what you had in mind but you got closure knowing the bull died and have memories to look at of the hunt.

I want to start by thanking this forum and Mike the guy that found my bull and was kind enough to post it. Maybe for curiosity and possibly educational reasons I can give you a bit of the search story. I’ll start by saying it was a double lung shot, an hour after I shot him we started on blood. We found 2 different 2x1 piles of blood with tons of bubbles in it. Figured we would find him shortly after, but nope .54 miles down the drainage in the bottom he decided to work uphill a bit odd but not alarming. At that point we, me and my 3 buddies could obviously see he had done a 360 not wanting to enter a little meadow and started back straight down to the bottom, but shortly after that is where we completely lost blood. We then started a zig zag pattern looking for blood or my bull, it was about 3-4 hours later one of my friends said he found a drop of blood. It was 200 yds uphill from where we lost blood. That’s against everything I’ve ever been taught or seen when an animal is mortally wounded. We then spent the next day and a half combing that hillside with no luck. Finally this bull was 490 yards uphill from last know blood drop. In one of my tracks on onX I was 56 yards from him the day I shot him, if I would’ve continued west instead of veering south I would’ve walked right into him and would’ve been able to recover the meat too. Again thanks to Mike he brought me some peace again. I was sick over this.

Nice teamwork. Love this.
-
This is the hunt WA community at work. Amazing collaboration. I cannot imagine the heartbreak and stress involved for the hunter. Elk are tough animals and loosing one really makes a person think about the what ifs. 20 years ago I lost my first elk using a muzzleloader and round ball. It forever changed how I hunted and prepared for the various situations encountered. Not that the animals life is any different but to loose a once in a lifetime type animal just adds to the burn. Excellent work and thank you to those involved for sharing a difficult topic.

Thanks for posting this. Only way to find that elk would be a dog or just plain luck. Lots of that area is impossible to track by hoofprints alone. Elk hunting brings us the highest of highs and then can also bring the lowest of lows, glad you got some closure on him
-
Hats off to the OP! So awesome this worked out.
-
Really glad to hear that this had a somewhat happy ending. That is a great bull!
I have only lost one animal in my life. I had a 300 yard steep downhill shot on a big bear (2nd biggest I have ever shot). Had a great rest - boom - whop (that sound is unmistakable). he spun out of there and was gone over the ridge. We looked for two days. Never found a spot of blood. I was second guessing the sound I heard. A month later during modern we found him - he rolled into a small brushy washout. I walked within 50 yards a couple of different times when searching for him but where he was at was basically invisible. Still managed to salvage the skull and claws so it was a little bittersweet!
-
Wow ! This is a great success story.
I've never seen or been helped in a recovery process, actually the opposite from a member on HW.This is a great story with a great ending.
Gives me hope that there is still a few good people out there.
Congrats to the hunter.
Congrats to mb for posting it up. 👏👍

We're all wondering, was this Brent's bull? Hopefully yes...I've only lost one animal,in 40 years, and it still bothers me.Ive decided to think it was a cougar, drug it off.lol...We practice,we take the "good" shot,we give the critter time to expire, then we track.. . That's l we can ethically do...the % of lost animals is very low,and one more thing...WASHINGTON HAS PASSED A LAW ALLOWING TRACKING DOGS TO FIND ANIMAL...The decision is yours, however I would pay a tracker, whatever his cost,to find my Bull Elk...in fact,WSFW should now have a tracking dept.. for special cases,as finding Bull Elk..

Negative. If you go back to page 4 you can read a line from the hunter who’s bull it was.

Very cool story, hats off to all involved. Nice bull. Sorry you didn't get the meat, but the critters in the woods will make sure it doesn't go to waste.
Took me two days to find my first archery bull. I walked within 5 feet of it an 1.5hrs after shooting it. It died and slid under a thick juniper. Only found it two days later when I saw a magpie sitting on his horns. Got the meat but out smelled so bad I couldn't keep it.

Great job HW community making the connection and bringing closure to Brent along with his recovered antlers.
Tracking dogs are legal and their use continues to increase along with those offering services such as myself. Still they are not a guarantee for recovery and even the data from the Trakar App shows a 1/3 success which is in alignment with my personal experience. Useful but certainly depends on lot of factors such as weather, track disturbances, and timeline. Its another useful tool in the box but no saying if it would have changed this outcome.
-
Curious, how did you find this bull? Glass it up? Scavengers? Just stumbled upon it?

I wonder if this was him, The rack is so similar

Negative, your bull pics 3rds are way too big

Awesome outcome considering. Remember animals do whatever they want after shot. People need to get this animals run down hill when shot nonsense out of their heads.
-
Ya shot animals definitely do not always run downhill!! I lost an archery bull to a grizzly 2 yrs ago that ran straight uphill. Was a good shot - was just giving it some time , but did go straight up steep terrain
