Title: NE deer reportt
Post by: baldopepper on October 08, 2024, 07:48:33 AM
Did a little wandering around this week and here's what I saw.  Back roads extremely dusty and miserable, but no access problems. Still extremely dry, so NO Campfires.  Seen a fair amount of deer with many small bucks, especially mule deer so make sure you know what you're shooting at.  Most deer down around the lower, private cultivated fields, but some higher if there's water around.   Miles/Creston road still closed so access to Hwy 25 is thru Davenport.  Deer coming onto fields fairly early in the evening, but back off very early in the mornings.  Still getting pretty warm and with new transport regs come prepared to take proper care of your animal.  Good luck all, leave a little brood stock.

I am not familiar with new transport regs - what do you mean?

@baldopepper A little off topic, but do you know what the status of the Miles/Creston Road is?

Thank you for the deer report. :)

You're spot on for my area in 105.  More predators on camera than deer.

copied from website....
Mandatory reporting of hunting activity – WAC 220-413-100 requires successful deer, elk, and moose hunters in GMUs 124, 127, and 130 to submit the whole head of a harvested animal with at least three inches of the neck attached or extracted retropharyngeal lymph nodes to WDFW for chronic wasting disease sampling within three days of harvesting.

Am i missing something?  this WAC says nothing about submitting the whole head?

So i shoot a deer in one of those units, and I have to figure out a way within 3 days of harvest on my 10 day hunting trip to get the head to WDFW?  :dunno:

Just take Telford Rd before the rest stop rather than driving all the way to Davenport.

Telford road? Interesting. I have been going all the way to Davenport. Gonna have to look at that. Is it paved or gravel? Oh yeah, to stay on topic here’s a trail cam pic of a month ago in the NE corner. Not sure why it came out sideways

Telford is gravel, little shorter but the dust is horrible.  Miles Creston is closed until Dec 1.  Might add backroad guys on sidesxsides not enclosed looked liked piles of dirt when you passed them. Dust made it look like the back of your rig was on fire.

Miles Creston is open now!

Best news I have heard in a long time.  Driving to Davenport has added 30 minutes to my commute.

Been taking Telford, so not too bad. Won't be paved until spring, but progress is good!
