Been very blessed in the WA draws with a couple bulls in 23 (Bull) and 24 (quality). I ask that if you know where these bulls or where they came from please keep that to yourself. Been debating on posting this for a while now. Anyhow, cumulatively been putting in for nearly 50 years to actually hunt for two days. Did a ton of homework and countless hours learning two new to me units, met some amazing people and made many new friends a long the way. A lot of credit goes to those individuals. Watched my 23 bull for four hours opening day and actually walked away from him for a couple hours and then came to my senses. Snuck into about 350 yards and put a 162 eldx from a .280AI through the lungs and another which wasnt needed. Has a broken fifth from sometime in September, but adds a little character (*). 24 draw results came out and was astounded to see selected for a quality elk tag. The scouting work resumed and soon opening morning is here. Sat on a target bull for 10 hours opening morning waiting for the wind to switch. Last hour of the day finally got a chance to make a play and got eyes on the bull at 160 yards. A bugle and he was in my lap at 35 yards instantly. Come through my shooting lane too fast and he spun to get back to his cows. A cow call slowed him just enough to place one quartering away through the lungs with the muzzy and he went 20 yards. Enjoying a freezer full of meat again. Without a doubt going to be the highlight of my elk hunting career and Im perfectly content with that. Mule deer are still the king of the forest, but I thoroughly enjoyed the process of learning a new animal and country.

Have a couple vaulted spaces in the living room they will go, I imagine I wont need another spot for a long while. Deep enough pockets for a bottle of propane and a cut 55 gallon drum for the euros :chuckle: :chuckle:

Thank you, I have the Remington 700 ultimate. Actually my first muzzy animal, packed it a few hundred miles hunting mulies though.

Would love to know the scores. 775/2=387.5. Incredible bulls but Im having a hard time seeing 390 on both of em lol. Not calling bs, just need some reference for the mental math.

Thank you Nock, have a couple hanging on the shop, definitely easier finding branched bulls than unicorns.

Thank you and no worries, thats why the asterisk is there :chuckle: could be plus or minus a couple inches but the 23 bull would have been somewhere around 402-404 I believe. Grossed 386 with the broken 5th but have pictures of him before he broke and was 16-18 on that point (included in the 775).

Outstanding!

Amazing bulls. Congrats thanks for sharing

Congratulations Zane! You got lucky in the draws, but you put the work in! Very rare in any state across the west to take to bulls of that caliber back to back. Oh and your correct mule deer are king :chuckle:

Those are great bulls! Congratulations!!

Nice bulls, congrats 👍

Thanks everyone, hadnt had a permit for anything with antlers since 2006, so not expecting much for a long time. Wouldnt mind a sheep or goat tag if I had to pick for next year lol

If I had to pick, it would be sheep, goat, deer, elk, then moose. Ill need to work it around my cow elk tag though! WDFW has been pretty good to me the last couple years. Lol

Great work Zane. I know you didnt just get lucky; you put in the effort to make things happen

Congratulations. This is a great thread.

Had seen him in the morning on a small parcel I could hunt so sat there for 10 hours making sure he didnt leave his normal route, we didnt see him for those 10 hours. Could hear him bugling and circling his cows throughout the day and once the wind was steady enough we could access him from the side we had access too.
