I’m extremely new to muzzleloaders and I picked up a knight bighorn with the camo thumb hole stock from a buddy with a bunch of extras. It’s set up for number 11’s I believe. Everything I’m reading should I do the conversion kit to switch over to 209‘s? Seems like everybody wants that non-plastic jacketed version but all I can find is the red plastic jacket conversion kit. What are your thoughts on switching over? What are the plus’s and minuses . Where should I start as far as loads go came with a assortment of bullets and a container of triple 7 thanks

I still use no.11s and am happy with reliability and performance. Didn’t feel the need to switch.

Don't switch. Stick with the#11s the RWS ones are hot and reliable. I've never had an issue with them. Very reliable.

For loads look up old post from “sabotloader”, so what he recommends and you’ll be fine for deer and elk. Specially look for his post on Lehigh bullets, get some of those and load with whatever grain. They work great on deer and elk, will drop them in their tracks with a double lung. Poor shot? Will still kill, the bullets are destructive.

My Bighorn uses the 209 primers with the red plastic jackets.
They are a real pain, even more since i put a scope on.
I've looked everywhere for a conversion to the non red plastic jacket 209.... if I could find that I'd switch over in a heartbeat.
I'd leave yours as-is unless you find the non red plastic jacket conversion.
Should you ever find one, PLEASE let me know.

Agree with “ask Sabotloader” dude is a a wealth of knowledge when it comes to front stuffers. Probably worth noting, when I asked him about switching my Bighorns to 209 he recommended I stay with #11’s and a good nipple, so that’s what I did.

Sabotloader has forgotten more about knight muzzleloaders than i ever knew. He really helped me out :twocents:

Congrats on picking up a bighorn they are great my daughter shoots one and we still use the #11 no reason to switch over.
My other daughter has a Wolverine with the #11 both have taken animals with theirs

I shoot a Knight Disc Extreme and my Dad has a Bighorn. We’ve stuck with the #11’s because we’ve had great reliability and both guns shoot great. 120 grains of 777 and a 300 grain bullet. Groups well and can ring the gong at 200 yards at the range.

OK, looks like I’ll stick with the number 11s for now. I’m in the middle of building a house so I don’t have a lot of time to play with it now anyways, but should be done in the spring and have sometime to play around.

The musket cap, 100grn 777ffg and Barnes 290grn t-ez is a good set up with a bighorn.

OK, I sat down today and looked at everything in the box. Looks like it is musket caps not number 11s but I have a spare nipple that is smaller in diameter than the musket nipple. I’m assuming that is for the number 11s. is number 11s or musket better

I shoot the musket caps on my bighorn with great reliability. 90-110 gr 777 and bullet of ur choice.

#11s are just as hot as musket caps.

I use the musket caps and 2 triple 7 pyrodex pellets with 295 grain jacketed power belt bullets in my bighorn. It goes off every time and the bullets kill elk and deer just fine. :tup:

Rws musket caps in my bighorn have never not gone boom. You got this.
