Been scouting and looking for target bucks for 2025.(Before they drop)
Trying to see what survived the hunting season gauntlet.
Got a double spiker here....lol .
Anyone got the goods for next year?
-
I saw my last decent buck the last day of late buck. He's a stellar 2x1. Muzzy season just ended here so there's a chance he got done in during that. I generally don't see bucks until early summer and then again during the rut.
-
Can’t grow bucks these days. Congrats to the hunter and I understand taking him (I thought about it), but I selfishly like these bucks to live to potential. My pic was October 30th.
I ate some pretty damn good tags this year, but my lesson is, it isn’t making a difference from a herd age class perspective.
-
This guy in Idaho - no tag, and tag this year is neighboring unit.
-
After I got my Idaho buck I saw 4 bucks bigger than the one I got while I was elk hunting. Pretty confident they made it through the season. There was only a few days left and there was really no one hunting in there.
-
Dang JJ I can’t believe you passed that, but good on you. I passed several 19-22” bucks in Montana, and just the week I was there at least 2 of them hit the dirt. Didn’t you have a trip to AB this year too? Maybe I missed the thread but would love to hear a quick wrap on your experience up there

10 days and 2 tags in Alberta. Still got em!🤣. 14 days in Idaho.
She’s tough out there boys!🤣
-
Wow no kidding not what I would have expected!

Still beats elk hunting :chuckle:

There you go speaking truth again🤣

seriously though, you hit the nail on the head in your first post. You can't bank bucks for the future. Between humans, mother nature, migrations, wolves, cats, bears, etc. there's just no guarantee they'll survive another year. But sometimes they do so unless it's a buck that just really tickles a guys fancy then roll the dice and let em walk. Good on you for sticking to your guns.
-
I have several bucks I hope to see next year . Not worried about hunters in my Idaho spot it’s winter and predators that do the damage on them
-
NO

I got my eye on a few.
Same here ,not to worried about other hunters.
Most the seasons are closed around here.
Another dink,maybe he made it.
-
THen throw in most of the bucks I did see again from last year were smaller this year than last year. Drought I guess :dunno: I do enjoy seeing those not plugging deer just to fill the tag, but knowing what they want, and passing everything else. There are just alot of hunts and alot of folks out there, and not a plethora of deer.
-
Theres one buck that surely survived because I saw him on the last day of the last season in the unit. He lives in a small area where he cant really range far and the winter should be mild. He was without a doubt the mature whitetail buck in the area and he barely survived our encounter due to brush in the way and noisy does he was following around busted me.
-
I've got a wide 'garden rake' WT I've seen on camera a few times. Not really sure how good he is. Most tines are broke when I get a picture.
-
This guy finally showed back up this year. I thought for sure someone got him during the later permit seasons. he has a couple bigger bucks with him but been unable to get pics with my spotter yet
-
Thats good to know there are some survivors up there. I've been reluctant to make the drive up.
-
One from the backyard
-
I shot him!
-
Yeah mine made it. Got a pic after season with a patch of hair missing on his back where my arrow skipped over him🤦♂️. Always next year
-
I’ll get back to you in July…….
-
I’ll get back to you in July…….
I got a few cams that are most likely snowed in.
Nobody knows till spring on those.
-
This one was tagged this year.
-
These 3 all made it through the hunting seasons, the tough part will be the winter and predators.
-
Some dang nice muleys in this topic.
🤤🤤🤤🤤
-
What a shame that’s all that’s left. They used be a lot bigger it’s sickening
-
Pretty sure this guy made it.
Last day of archery,I believe.

That's WDFW deal. You could always send an email to the commission. Lol ... 😂.
All joking aside ,"trophy" could be a dink buck to some folks .
It is disappointing sometimes.Thats what I love about hunting.
Roll the dice, might be a biggin around the corner.
I'm always glad to see a few made it through the gauntlet of hunting season.
-
This guy made it, along with a few other mature bucks of equal size in my area. Cell pics out the windshield after I almost hit him coming home. He disappeared all hunting season then came back around the rut and was chasing tail in the winter wheat.
-
Sadly front bumpers also claim a bunch of them
-
Hoping this buck makes it to next year, big 3
-
Couple of whitetails I hope survived
-
Most all the bucks I was watching survived, which is good..... They needed a couple more years to be mature bucks. We are slowly recovering from the last blue tongue outbreak. Now if they can avoid the cat, wolves, coyotes, bears, poachers and winter.....I may have a chance at them next year.
-
I don’t know if my top 3 backups survived rifle season yet but I know many of my up and comers did. Hoping at least 1 of the 160 class deer I scouted can grow into something special

This is the one I most want to make it. I felt he had tremendous potential with his age and genetics on really what I saw as a poor antler growth year.

Ooh! That buck is amazing Bone! He has nice deep forks! He could use a little mass and that would be my ideal typical mulie!

Beautiful buck! Almost looks like someone shot at him with a small caliber and just clipped his left antler.

Here's one
Got a hole in its back.
Freaking survivor.
I did cut the pic ,he did survive through archery.
Cut the pic so you guys can see the hole better, and to keep his location safe. He needs to recover.
-
Got my target buck but this guy is still on the loose…..

B&C right there.

But I would watch out for that guy in the background he may be a poacher. :dunno:
-
Pretty sure he's still out there
-

He is definately still alive, but he literally had a close shave with death.

I feel personally attacked.

I know of one that got hit like that but, not sure of the exact spot it hit. I saw the pic on the 18th of Nov I think, and seems like it may have been farther back. I know he was alive then because the guy that shot him saw him. Funny if the same buck but probably not the same area

Maybe this one made it .
Not sure, haven't had any pics since this date.
Broken point on the one side.

LOL I will hit you up next time im in the area i have some fish set aside that belongs in your freezer!
-
This didn't make it.
-
Doesn't look like much of a cache job for a lion :dunno:
-
If I came across that in that area with no tracks or other tells, I would guess that's wolf, but it sounds like they have had issues with a cat there. I have found a 100% cougar kill off the side of Mt Spokane that was not cached.
-
This didn't make it.
There was a bull moose dead right up the road from there. It was laying in the middle of the road.

I’m just hoping this year I will get to meet this guy
-

We find dead deer and elk killed by cats not covered up. The most recent kills were 3 sheep in one night. I think someone was learning how to kill, they weren't covered either.

That's a good one.
Maybe a stud next year.

pretty sure he made it through. Hard to say. This buck lives at my place all summer and vanishes before he gets hard horned every year. Typically get a few pictures of him in December. He will graze the plot and drink water but never once has he touched any bait. Been watching him for 4 years now probably longer but didn’t notice him until 4 years ago
-
This guy made it another year!
-
Drooler WT, thanks!!!!
-
This guy is still alive.
-
Another guy....
Pretty sure some trash points starting.
-
Pretty sure same buck.
Didn't really notice the kicker trash till I got this night pic.
Similar to the avatar buck in my profile.
Thanks for sharing everyone, some dandy bucks still alive out there.👍

I'm very close to having, all my cameras and lockboxes down and at home. Over the years ,almost all my cams have had at least one person on them. Sometimes more. Those people have seen bait at these spots. So I'm pulling out of these spots,so that I'm not associated with known bait spots from the past.
I'll setup a few cams on game trails and stuff,100 percent won't get the volume of pics from the past. I'd love to show HW these bucks as they got bigger this year. Probably won't happen since I'm going with all new spots and no bait.
These pics in this topic ,might be my last posted to the site. Not sure yet.
Recently pulled this cam, lockbox removed,no bait left.
Like I was never there.
The buck ,unsure if he made it. No pics of him after the date on pic.
The cat ,it made it for sure. Since all the seasons was CLOSED.
Enjoy!
-
Since this topic is my last hoorah from last year bait was legal.
I'll throw these here as well, not your BIG buck.
Elk are better anyway.
