Hopefully this post stays civil and people can just enjoy looking at pics. Some friends suggested I share my experience since a recent pic showed up on here by a person taking it through a spotting scope and calling a game warden. Ha, he even showed up! However, my friends also warned me about the hearsay criticism I'll take by posting but I thought this animal should be shared. I'm not doing this to brag or boast but just share a giant bull.
Also, if you “heard” any rumors about me spending a bunch of $$ on the raffle, hiring guides or other BS keep it to yourselves because it's not true. I think the shared pic suggested I had a person from Oregon helping. I'm just an avid hunter who got really lucky and got to spend 38 days hunting solo or with a friend or two over the last 4 months. I build decks for a living and the pocketbook is damn near empty so ping me if you need a new one. 😊lol
My time spent over there wasn't all about the elk though. I got the SE package which is 4 species. I spent 6 days on white tail, 7 on mule deer (in the rut) which was fantastic being you can't do it on the norm here in Washington, and I put the rest of the 25 days into elk. I hunted the rut and late season where I eventually found the bull I killed. I passed way over 100 bulls in my time over there. I am from the Westside on the coast originally so hunting and killing many Rossie’s over the years in the rainforest was sooo different than the hills and farmland of the SE corner. I killed all 3 deer species (Elk, Mule Deer, Whitetail) on my tags and still have a spring bear which will happen in the spring. I hunt 4-6 states a year and this was truly an absolute hunt of a lifetime over anything I have done.
I would really like to talk to other raffle holders to see if they were able to collect all species.
I will send more pics. Seems I only can do one at a time.
-
Congratulations on a great bull. Look forward to seeing pics of the other species you harvested on the raffle.
-
Here is another angle of my bull
-
Thanks for sharing, stud bull.👍
-
Didn't somebody also say pics wouldn't do the bull any justice? I disagree!! That is a STUD!! Congrats on the tags and the once in a lifetime opportunity, and thank you for coming here and posting! Fantastic. Hopefully after you realize this place isn't so bad, you'll consider posting some pics of your other critters too. 8)
-
Nicely done! Sounds like a great year of hunting to me.
-
Raffle mule deer. 29'' outside spread.
-
Congrats 👏👍
Nicely done!
The forum also has a "as it lays" topic.
Where you can post harvest pics with no story or any criticize.
Thank you for sharing.
-
Thanks so much for coming on here and posting your buck and bull. They are both fantastic animals, the elk especially! Since I had a quality bull tag in the same unit, I know that you absolutely did your tag the justice it deserved, and then some..
Great work, I know you must have done some homework, since that isn't an easy unit. Thanks again for posting!
Congratulations!
-
First off, thank you for sharing!
Your bull is a stud!
You shared some great pics.
Absolutely one of the most beautiful looking bulls I've ever seen.
Very cool that you were able to experience the hunting season of a lifetime.
-
Awesome animals, spending 38 days hunting is quite a feat and I'm jealous of that time you got to spend with friends in the field. Congrats on your success and hopefully you find a nice bear this spring (which I'm also extremely envious of).
-
That's a monster bull! Congratulations! Thank you for sharing!
-
Thanks for sharing the story and the photos.
Great bull and buck.
One heck of a first post for a guy that’s been a member since 2012.
-
How awesome. Great buck and spectacular bull
-
Great animals! Congrats!
-
A couple of fantastic kills!!! Congratulations.
-
Here is my whitetail. just a 132 buck, but was a great end to the raffle tags with a decent representative.
-
Congratulations on the draw and one heck of a season.
-
They are all better than decent representatives.
You crushed it!!!!!
But that bull is unreal.
-
Nicely done! Love that bull. Thanks for sharing.
-
Congrats on an incredible season and even more 8ncredible bull!
-
Yessir. Thanks for sharing the pics and story. Congrats on all the success. Hell of a first post.
-
You must be your taxidermist's favorite person lately... 8)
-
I suppose it would be a first time posting. I could put a bunch of new animals on here every year but always felt it was more like bragging and I don't wanna be that guy, but I get wanting to see other guys stuff and being excited for them. I love antlers and horns, more addicted than anything. Hope it never goes away. I will be more sharing with my adventures year to year.
If any of you are guessing numbers on that bull I'll give you main beam of 63'' and first mass measurements just shy of 12''. I can't wait for official measurements in the end of Feb.
-
It's not bragging. Most people here just love seeing success photos. Think of it as a public service :chuckle: Especially during the off-season when we have nothing else to look at. We like to know what caliber animals are out there. We love to see guys go out of state on a hunt that we might be considering one day. We love the stories, the pics and the horns. A lot of us kind of think of this site as our own hunting magazine that gets updated periodically with new photos and stories. If you can ignore the occasional grump, most people are just here to share experiences.
Post 'em up!
-
I always get excited when someone who doesn't buy 100000 raffle tickets gets picked, gives me hope. Job well done!
-
Man, looks like a heck of a season! Awesome critters and a nice long season out and about. Thanks for sharing
-
Thanks for sharing, great season well deserved.
-
Great animals! I would love to see a straight on shot of that mule deer to go along with the side view you gave us. Once again, great critters!
-
What a great hunt! 3 amazing animals! Well done! Very well done!
-
Thank you for sharing! What an amazing season! Congrats on not one but three successful hunts!

Hope this doesn't duplicate. I'm trying to navigate this forum. If you have hunted the SE corner there isn't a lot of Mule deer. I hunted harder for mule deer then any other animal. Once I found this buck it took 3 days for him to get in a position to kill him. Very fortunate in the end.
-
Looks like a true hunt of a lifetime. Congrats and great animals.
-
I was wondering what its main beams were. Thanks for sharing that info. Looks like you might hunt in Texas too huh? I would love to shoot an auodad with a big wooly beard and heavy horns! Congrats on that one as well as your 2 deer!
-
Congrats on your draw and success! Thanks for sharing!
-
Thanks so much for sharing. Looks to me like one heck of a fall! Well done.
-
Not sure how he's still married.... :chuckle:
Like I mentioned, pics don't do it justice and show the mass on that thing.
-
That’s about as good as it gets. That Mulie and elk are amazing!
-
Way to go!
Thank you for sharing your hunts!
-
Thank you for sharing, and congratulations on your fall and hopefully spring. Well done and some absolute great representations of animals in this state. Great work!!!
-
Congratulations on your hunting season. That Bull sure looks awesome.
-
Cheesenrice those are beautiful animals. How many decks does it take for your taxidermy bill? Heh heh
-
Great draw and awesome animals. One question, your first post says you have a “spring” bear left. I don’t see that as an option, or am I missing something? I would love to see a spring bear option in a raffle!! Congrats!
-
Thank you for sharing your great success . All great animals and a bull of a lifetime! Congratulations!
-
Congratulations on a dream hunt! Best season ever.
-
Congrats on some fine animals. Thank you for sharing!
-
I'm not doing this to brag or boast but just share a giant bull.
You are exactly the kind of person that probably every one of us is happy to see draw these kinds of tags. Congrats on a dream season and thanks for sharing.
-
Thanks for sharing, congratulations on an epic year. That’s alot of fun, but a big commitment and work to do it well. You did it well!
-
Outstanding hunt! Congrats and thanks for posting! :rockin:
-
Great draw and awesome animals. One question, your first post says you have a “spring” bear left. I don’t see that as an option, or am I missing something? I would love to see a spring bear option in a raffle!! Congrats!
Was available last year, had to look again, looks like they revised the date. :dunno:

Ok, that sparks my memory now, thanks.

Huge congrats and thanks for sharing your journey

When you draw this package they give you the choice of a cougar or bear for your 4th species. I imagine they give the spring hunt to it because they go night right in early Nov and you have until Dec 31 to make all this happen. Just glad I got this before they change things, because you know it will get changed if "they" get there say. I've never gotten a spring bear so I'm excited for that.

You've probably got the best area in the state for a big spring bear! Good Luck, glad you get to do it before the commission gets rid of it!

Especially since we haven’t had a spring bear in the blues for years, I’m drooling just thinking about that hunt!
-
Sweet seeing one taken with crossbow. Hope to make that happen myself.
-
Wow, that will be one heck of a bear hunt, experience and trophy potential to boot. 8)

AGREED!!!
Congrats on your hunts, some incredible specimens, and a job well done by a 1000% standup guy. (I don't know you, but its overwhelmingly obvious you are) Thanks for sharing.

I'm sorry if I haven't answered all questions. Somebi probably won't answer anyway. Lol. I am very new to this platform and I'm still figuring it out. I did want to thank absolutely everyone that has given the positive feedback and the appreciation for the animals. Nothing better than a hunting family to help absorb the success. Very blessed all around.
-
You certainly did those tags justice. Congrats
-
Thanks for posting. Great animals.
I couldn't handle drawing this raffle. To much stress :chuckle:
-
A guy needs to be retired with those multi tag hunts, such a great bundle to win!
-
Awesome critters! Congrats!
-
A guy needs to be retired with those multi tag hunts, such a great bundle to win!
That’s a lot of pressure to be under. As much as I’d love to have that opportunity, it would be a heavy weight to have.

I have to say the only pressure I had was in the end trying to kill a respectful whitetail. A guy has a lot of time which is key to seeing a lot of game and being selective, but I got him on the 30th with 1 day left. Relief came over me like my soul leaving my body. Lol
-
Wow
Nicely done
great critters 👍
-
Nice bull, too bad there wasn't a wolf in that package
-
Congrats again Ron, well deserved
-
Wow, you did have an awesome fall, hope you can get your spring bear. The bull is a stud for sure. Thought my bull from Wyoming in '16 with 55" main beams was big, 63" is out immense. Way to go.
There is always going to be jealous haters on social media and glad none came out for your post.

nwhuntinman is my Brother-in-law and I got the pleasure to help him out for a week in September, during the rut. What an epic week. Seen several great bulls, but couldn't find "THE ONE". I called in this bull to 35 yards and he gave it a pass. What an experience and well done Ron. You spent the time and had the right expectations. Hope to get the opportunity to do it again. I am attaching the video of the passed bull.

Yeah i would have dropped that bull. Don't know how you could let that one go!

That is exactly why he passed. If I had the archery tag, or muzzleloader tag, that bull would have been dead. Way different scenario.

Easy to put some extra inches on those bulls when they're screaming in your face :chuckle:

The rut was a good ride. Very happy my closest buddies and my Bro-in-law joined me. I'll try to post a couple bulls that got passed or wasn't able to get to them without permission. Anyone that has hunted the SE corner knows there is a lot of private. The biggest feature of these tags is the timeline as I mentioned before. I wasn't after the bext state record bull just wanted to beat my current biggest bull. There are not 400" behind every tree and after going through 60-70 bulls and possibly seeing one in all of those I knew I needed to be reasonable but not keep short of the goal. My goal was 390 to beat the 370 I have on the wall. Having gotten a bull that will presumably be the #1 typical in still hasn't sank in. It will be more solid for me once the official score is done after the 60 day dry time. Here are a couple bulls I passed

Those are some hammers
-
Reaching back. My 60 day dry time is concluded and had the B&C scorer measured again after the head and horns competition for a final score. This is what it finished out at. #2 in the state for typical and 17th all time. Now that seasons are over hoping everyone is working on next year's trips. My wife says season is really never over because I spend the time off looking for the next hunt. I bet I'm not alone.
-
He’ll of a bull.👍
-
You did that raffle justice for sure, and theres still a spring bear tag!
Congrats man!
-
Congrats on number2. Again, amazing bull
-
Congrats on an amazing animal, those mains are unreal!
-
Congrats again Ronnie!
-
Its awesome the bull got the attention he did. He deserved it. I saved his teeth and will be aging him soon.
I can't believe it's already March. Spring Bear is just around the corner. Pumped to get back over to the SE corner and get back in the field. I'll keep everything in this post so it's easier to follow being all the tags were together.
-
Congrats on a great bull and you definitely put the time in to get it!! Hope your bear hunt goes as well as your elk hunt.. pretty suprised wdfw lets you hunt the spring hunt but glad your doing it…
-

they found that loophole and it will not be available in the spring anymore.
-
Looks like it will be a historic hunt then. Washiington State is so messed up. The true conservation is going away. People that don't hunt and put no money into habitat get to tell us how to live and add more predators without managment all for THEIR personal agenda.
Sorry for the little rant. I'm sure this is already a topic on here. I get wound up fast on this subject.
-
Very excited to follow along on this. Congrats on some fantastic animals and hoping for the best for you this spring.
-
Wow great bull! I just saw this since I dont get on here much. Great story and well done. I would NOT have been able to pass all of those bulls you posted. Good job well deserved
-
Congratulations on the amazing bull and the two fine bucks!!
-
Ok so I just got my Spring Bear tag. There was a big issue as you all know that they recently have cancelled spring bear. Well, my tag that they gave me only had 2024 on it. Being I want to be completely transparent and legal I went to game dept and asked to get it updated for the 2025 spring bear. I went through 3 people in office there then a call to Olympia. No one could say yes to me or make the tag. I sent out an email then and received 2 phone calls him-hawing around hoping I would just say ok I'll go without. Well for me this tag is the second highest to the elk tag and is the reason I wanted the raffle. No one ever did answer my email, but the 3rd call to me was a gentleman that just said he was making my tag, and it is being sent to me. So here we go guys. I'll be back in the field in a couple weeks. I believe I will be the only guy too. Should get to look at a lot of bear without competition. Talk to you all soon.
-
good update, you should have a blast. Looking forward to tagging along here, go get a brute.
-
I figured you would have to scratch a little for that tag. Glad you dug in and made them produce.
-
Awesome good luck and enjoy it! You might be the last spring bear hunter in WA
-
That’s awesome you got the spring bear tag. You got one up on wdfw stupidity..Be patient it doesn’t get good until mid to late May usually…
-
Man, what an opportunity to kill a tank, no spring bear hunters since 2021 I believe and you'll have the place to yourself. Like others have said, you'll prob be that last spring bear hunter in the State of Wa (legal anyway) and like Scott said, the later in May the better as far as the rut goes. I will admit it, I'm so damn jealous!! This makes me really hate the commission for taking away not only a needed hunt but one of the funnest this state had to offer.
-
As others have stated, don't be in a huge hurry. Snow will make access an issue in a lot of places and the bears aren't gonna be moving much. Focus on that first full week of May till end of season. Once those wild onion patches start to get neon it'll be game on. If you need another set of eyes down there I'd love to come glass for some bruins. Divide and conquer.

me too!!! If I have an open weekend I’d come down, I get 3 day weekends every other.

If there hasn't been any spring bear hunters since 2021 it boggles my mind that the winners of this same raffle never hunted them. Possible they scored and no one ever knew it I suppose.
-
Around May 16-18 is the time period in the Blues every year for us that it seems to shift gears and we start seeing a lot more big boars really covering ground vs. just hanging out and not being seen as much.
Enjoy the opportunity, many of us miss it a lot!
-
@nwhuntinman How did your bear hunt go???????
-
With all the excitement from the draws this got buried, dying to know how the bear hunt went??
-
Into hibernation!
-
He's been hitting it hard and over there hunting as we speak. Hasn't seen the right one yet.....a few days left.
-

Goes until the 15th....I'll let him jump on and share details when it ends. He's looking for a specific type of bear but that may change this weekend.
-
Awesome!!! Hope he finds him!!

Well folks I finished out the spring bear hunt with my 4th tag from the SE raffle. This hunt was one like I never did before. I spent 8 1/2 days hunting with a bit of Springer fishing to break up the time. The last 4 days were the hardest with a little pressure put on by myself. As anyone with knowledge of the units you end up glassing 800 yards to 2 miles across canyons to locate then make a plan if they seem to want to hang out and feed. The last 3 days I was finding boars hooked up with sows so they weren't traveling like I had seen so I gave me more hope that I could make a stock, and they might still be in the neighborhood by the time I got into shooting distance. That thought was quicky put to rest after 2 blown stocks. I ended up just making a plan to get into the area I seen most of the bear and hope to see one on my side before they seen me. I was very very lucky the day before the closer and I had a sow pop out 30 yards from me and with a short glance I knew it was the sow that I put a stock on the boar that was with her. I figured I was busted as I was out in the wide open when I saw her. She seemed a bit nerves as most bear are, but I held tight as she didn't bust out of there. It was just seconds later the boar stepped out of the brush, and she started walking straight to me. I was able to get my gun up in short increments before he was visible, but when I pulled up, she was all I could see in my scope so I held knowing at some point she would bust out of there and he would be visible. She got to 10 yards and busted as I anticipated, and he instantly tuned broadside and bailed back into the brush but not before taking lead when he turned. He died almost immediately 15 yards from where he stood. I'm exhausted, but very proud of what I accomplished knowing I had a once in a lifetime tags. I saw 29 bears in that timeframe. I have green scored the skull and he was 20 5/8'' and he was 6'2'' from nose to base of tail. All I wanted was to get a good representative and I am ecstatic about him.
I want to thank any and all that gave me advice for this hunt and the ones that stuck with me through this. Anyone that is local or knows these mountains is a blessing to be in contact with and I doubt I could have done it without that guidance. I'll always say it; local knowledge is KING.

-
Awesome!
-
What a great thread! Congrats on your bull and bucks, great animals!
Just a few weeks ago I posted here asking if anyone had actually ever won the raffles, I actually remember reading through this thread early this year! So I shoulda known.
-
Thank you for posting, awesome job!! Great bear
-
Nicely done! Got the bear you were looking for after a good long hunt that’s the best best of both worlds congratulations!
-
Wow he’s a bruiser.
-
Congratulations. Way to make the most of the tags.
-
Congratulations on a great bear. Let's hope that isn't our last spring bear harvested in WA.
-
Congrats, again! Great bear! It might be a while before you have a hunting season quite like this one!
-
Congrats on an awesome Bear. I fixed your pic and turned it right side up. Hopefully that was ok.

Thanks for that. I don't know how to edit once it's posted. Of course this is the one place it's sideways.
-
Congratulations on what is possibly but hopefully not the last spring Bear taken in Washington
-
Season of a lifetime for sure.
You sure did it justice with investing the amount of time you did.
Thanks so much for sharing it with us.
-
Congrats...epic hunts!,nice bear to finish it.
-
Congrats again on an awesome bear! I was rooting for you to make it happen.
