I’d say 375HH and controlled round feeding to avoid jams

The cz550 safari is a very reliable and cost effective option.  Mauser action.

Love mine!

Find a Pre '64 Winchester in .375 H&H and take the classic. You can still find them on Gunbroker and other websites....

If this is for Africa, go 375HH.  Here is why...

1.  It meets the minimum legal for just about every species on the continent.  (I want to say for every species in every country but I am not 100% sure that is a true statement)
2.  Every hunting camp in Africa has 375 HH ammo laying around.  If you find yourself in need of ammo while over there, you will find some somewhere.
3.  Every hunting camp in Africa has a spare 375HH rifle laying around.   If you find yourself needing a rifle bcs yours is lost or malfunctioning there is a very high probability of finding a 375 HH rifle for your ammo.

Here is an example from my hunt, and why the above is important.

My flight from Atlanta to Jo-berg was canceled due to mechanical problems (after bags were checked and loaded).  We got on the next flight but none of our bags made the connections to our final destination in Zimbabwe.  Day 1 and 2 of our hunt I used a "camp" 375 HH and some camp ammo.  Day 3 my rifles arrived but the bag with my ammo did not arrive.  In fact it did not arrive until the day we left.  I was able to complete the hunt with my rifle and spare camp ammo.  If I had been shooting a less common caliber than the 375 HH there would have been no ammo for my rifle.  My other rifle was a 450 Dakota and it sat in our hut for the entire trip.

I dropped a cape buffalo with a single frontal shot using my 375 HH CZ550 safari Magnum.  The camp ammo I used was the Barnes tripleX.

On other trips I killed a hippo, 13 foot long Croc, and probably more than a dozen plains game animals with the 375 HH.  It just does the job.  Basically the 30.06 Springfield of Africa.

I have 4 CZ550 Safari mags in 375 HH, 450 Dakota, 416 Rigby and 505 Gibbs.   Love them all.

I have been dabbling on this too, 375 rum or 378 wby. Those are exactly what I would take and build for the trip.

Cool rifle and would be Hell on elk and maybe a "someday" moose hunt.

I have a Ruger Hawkeye African in .375 Ruger. It’s one of the earlier ones, not threaded. Beautiful rifle with Mauser extractor. It shoots fantastic and is a standard length action. Highly recommend. I load the original 300gr Hornady RN. Not the new DGX bullet even though I believe the DGX is a much better bullet. RL15 for powder.

I would go 375 H&h or better yet 375H&H AI. Factory ammo or reloading components are easy to get. Easy round to reload for. I didn’t like the rifle it was build on and traded it off for something else, but l did like the round and will likely have another built.  I liked shooting the 270 grain Barnes tsx.

The name does not ring  bell.  But my trips were in 2007, 2012 and  2016
 So names may have changed.

We used RiflePermits.com to move our guns thru customs and it was worth every cent.  They even got us up to security in minutes when we were faced with a tight connection.  (Probably shaved an hour off the line for us).

.375 H&H for all the reasons given.  You might look at an Interarms mark X Whitworth Express.  Classic looking Safari rifles that shoot well.  I've used mine in Africa with great success.

I’d go with one of the Ruger Hawkeyes in 375 Ruger. I ended up with one of the earlier production Alaskan versions, before they put the muzzle brakes on them. I think the Ruger action is smoother and faster to operate than the CZ 550, and the 375 Ruger cartridge did everything the H&H ever did. I’ve never fallen in love with the Model 70 action, but that’s just me.

my Grandfather always spoke of Finn and his love of the 375 H&H. I have his rifle and use it alot to this day... The original wood stock cracked at the tip, i had a wonderful gun smith in Portland who made composite stocks create me one before he passed. Blue needed love so i had shop cerakote as well. That shop is closed sadly and been long enough i dont recall the business name...

pic 1 was my cousins visit to WA in 2015 using my H&H. Pic 2 is post changes discussed above
