Title: Browning X Bolt sticky stock
Post by: puyallupaul on March 03, 2025, 06:36:47 AM: Opened safe after a few months. I had not heard anything about it. Purchased in 2011. Has anyone sent theirs in for replacement ? How long did it take ?
Or did you try and clean it ?

UPS ? Do they send back to us ?

The box on the form didn’t work, but I selected the pattern I wanted using some black magic that rhymes with “picrosoft maint” and they sent me a SPIFFY new camo pattern stock.

Post by: duckmen1 on March 03, 2025, 11:42:33 AM: I sent mine in within the last few years. They did great. Replaced very quickly and used a very similar looking but non duracoat stock. Pretty easy process through their recall. Mine was horrible. The black duratouch stock would turn completely grey while getting wet. Would start getting a melty tacky feel. Once all cleaned and put away in safe it literally melted horribly in safe. I will see if I can dig up pictures. It was very bad. Although currently due to circumstances I am now unable to shoot the rifle. But did love that gun when I did use it years ago. Very accurate. Glad they stood behind the stock defect.

Post by: Dukalr on March 03, 2025, 06:39:25 PM: I went through this last fall with a Browning Silver Shotgun. I just called the Browning service folks in Arnold, MO and discussed it with them. They gave me some different options for camo finishes and i sent it in. My shotgun came back looking brand new (and i had used it quite a bit on the salt). They even replaced a few parts on the gas piston free of charge. I was a bit skeptical going into it, but completely happy in the end. I should have done it sooner. They had my gun for about 3.5-4mo total door to door if i recall.

Do it now and you will have it back before you know it and way before hunting season.

Browning never applied Dura-touch finish to A-bolts.

Some after market company must have applied a similar finish.

Some A bolt stocks did turn a little chalky, but never sticky.

Post by: ASHQUACK on March 03, 2025, 08:19:45 PM: I sent in a Maxus that was bad. They re-did the finish and thoroughly cleaned and replaced parts that needed replaced. They said it would be gone for 16 weeks and they were spot on. Gun looks brand new and functions flawlessly.

They can send it to their PC and print is full size.

Also on the note of future people reading this thread, go to your local driving range and check their dumpster because golf club boxes fit long guns almost perfectly. They even come with shims that keep the barrel centered in the box. The UPS guy gave me that tip.

Ups dropped mine off at my doorstep.

Same. I dropped off at FFL. Waited for a call to pick up. Then one day UPS came and dropped off at the house.

Take it to UPS. No FFL needed. My UPS shipper even boxed mine for me.

They sent it back black which is what I had before. I don't mind black so I didn't consider changing it.
