We got a great start to the season during the youth hunt and have scouted up a bunch of birds for the general turkey opener. This morning we are on the board with three birds already.
Brandon from Georgia just completed his archery grand slam right after the birds come off the roost. The other two guys with birds down still have birds close to them, I told them to sit tight, I’ll get photos of them later.

I’ll see if this one posts correctly?

Mike has hunted with us every year since about 1989 for bear, Turkey, or deer. This morning he scored on another great tom. Well done!
-
Great job!
Do you have a buy ten get one free punchcard system for Mike? That's some client loyalty
-
I take care of Mike 👍
-
Phil was the first hunter to finish yesterday, he got the first bird about 7am and the second bird about 9am.
-
Ron from Georgia was the next to tag out. Nailed a killer bird with his bow in the morning and another killer bird in the evening running and gunning with his shotgun.
The best bird 1 1/4 spurs, little over 9” beard and very white, a fantastic Merriam’s.
-
Mike was next to tag out with his second bird!
-
Chris from Montana nailed a nice bird yesterday and his son in law David from Oregon also filled his first bird last night.
-
Nice looking gobblers.👍

Thank you

Brandon arrows a second bird but it wasn’t a kill, we searched all over for the bird and finally jumped it and it flew off. He hunted the rest of the day in hopes of finding that wounded bird. Incredibly he had a second chance at the same bird later in the evening and notched his other tag.

Pat sacked up a nice tom with Daniel.
-
George is from Virginia, he works in D.C , he arrived early afternoon and went hunting the next morning with Zach, everything went perfectly and he was tagged out shortly after daylight.
-
Les is another one of our hunters hunting with us I think the second longest. Since about 99. He got his first bird the first thing the first morning of his hunt this year:
-
I’ve been seeing new antlers on the deer for about a week now:

Just had two hunters from Louisiana who started hunting this afternoon, they already both filled their turkey tags and then caught some nice brookies and rainbows on their first day.

Brandon from North Carolina nailed a good tom this morning! Congrats
-
Two more dandy toms taken by our two recent hunters from Louisiana, they are tagged out now and headed home.
-
Dale from Ohio drill a nice bear last night with guide Gilbert, the bear made a run for it and it got dark while looking for it. Gibert called Brian who brought Chewy the Jack Russell blood tracking dog. Chewy found the bear and saved the day! Well done by all!
-
Nice Job on the Bear
Chewy saves the day.!!

Late afternoon yesterday Lauren’s husband Daemon dropped his bear, kind of a strawberryish blonde, the pictures make it look darker than it is. He had taken other color bear with us in the past and was very happy with this color phase. They have decided to come back this next winter for our new wolf hunting and trapping adventures. Thanks again to both of you, we look forward to seeing you again this winter!

Three more birds down so far today for hunters from Ohio and Mississippi. The birds are starting to slow down significantly, we are having to work a lot harder for birds now. Its going to be really tough hunting in another week.
The largest bird had 9" beard and 1 3/16 spurs.

Here’s some more birds taken recently.

And the last bird was one of the best of the season, a little over 1” spurs and 9 1/4 beard. This year the spring and the gobble started early and is also dropping off early, I convinced the rest of our hunters to postpone their hunt until next year so they will have a better hunt. Our last hunters didn’t do so well, one got this bird and the other didn’t get a bird so I’m glad the other hunters that were coming decided to wait until next year. It has been a great season with a lot of nice mature birds, but its time to call it a season.

There's always something that happens when it comes to hunting where the game you are after gets the last laugh. One of my hunters had 25 hours into hunting this specific bird the last three days! He was determined to get this bird! Here this bird is this morning, after that hunter has gone home, just strolling around out in the open. :chuckle:
