Mudflow Archery Elk for me this year!!
-
Congratulations to all that have drawn tags!
Me, personally, I finally drew a Blue Mountain tag after 30 plus years of applying. Blue Creek bull (Oct. / Nov. season) and I am excited. Time to talk to all the people that I know who have told me to call them if I ever have the tag. I know there are a few good ones taken every year in there. I'm at that point in my life where it's not the size that matters, but the experience with my family and hunting partners.
Good luck on the hunts.

Well 3 of us in our camp drew Cowichee archery cow tags for late season :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:
-
Snoqualmie quality deer! First ever quality tag of any sort.
-
I drew Mountain View quality elk archery. I thought I was incredibly fortunate, but then I saw that everyone returned there tags last year except 1 hunter. I think it might be fire related. Is the whole unit burned up? Maybe the only reason I drew is because very few people applied, because the unit is in such rough shape?
-
the whole unit is not burned up. i was down there last weekend and it is very green where the fire was. Great tag.

Snoqualmie quality deer! First ever quality tag of any sort.
Good luck. I had this tag a couple of years ago and spent the majority of the time sick and didn't get to do it justice. Still hurts.
-
No luck for me this year.
-
Congratulations to everyone who drew. I had a great year last year I'm thankful for, and many good memories over the years. I'll help out where I can.

I crapped out this year, just another round of relatively useless points.
you get no sympathy after last years draw sir :chuckle:
-
Drew antlerless elk and a palouse buck tag been awhile since I've drawn anything pretty excited
-
I was lucky enough to finally draw the one Aladdin tag for quality mule deer. Never thought it would happen. 22 points. Runs Nov. 3-23. Should be a good time!
-
I drew archery West Klickitat buck deer, Nov 22-29. New ground for me, so plenty of legwork to do. It's always nice to see "selected" vs. "neglected" :chuckle:
-
I got nothing for Elk but did draw the Sauk quality buck tag. I'm looking forward to chasing big blacktail in the rut. I'm already trying to figure out where I'm going to hang the next Big Hank on the wall. I was just told last weekend that I wasn't allowed anymore shoulder mounts because we don't have room. Too bad for her :chuckle:
-
Congrats on all the draws
Second deer for me, will be nice to have the extra meat

-
Second deer for son and I, muzzy late doe permit, and son drew rim rock general bull permit.
-
I struck out again. That's pretty much the norm in WA anymore. Here's hoping I can get something from WY, ID, or SD still.
-
I was 25 years old the last time I drew a white river elk BULL catagory permit, that was 30 years ago. 30 points, don’t mean chit. Another year of disappointment, you’d think I’d get used to this.
-
Colockum quality archery! First quality tag for me. I feel really fortunate to say the least.
-
Notta for us
-
I got selected for not selected.
17 points and can't even draw a Colockum cow tag. :(

So many points now
But only a few permits
Luck is not with me

Washington Unit 342 - Umtanum, for me. Should be a good hunt, seen alot of Elk in there during Deer season
-
Not sure which will happen 1st, I draw a deer quality tag (17pts) or the Mariners win a world series?
I give Mariners the better chance. 29 years of NADA in non true spike categories and I won't bother with 30. remember spike only to be temporary along with Mulie 3 point or better? F em!! THIS addict is done!
-
Eastern Cow Tag and Breezly Doe tag for the 3 of us
Beezly will be an easy fill.
Never hunted unit but looks like there is decent access. We might wait for this hunt just to go over and see what its like end of November and get some pics of bucks.

Congratulations to those that drew! Another full slate of not selected here.

Drew a 1026 disability Muzzleloader Antler-less elk tag for GMU's 336, 340, 342, 346 OCT. 29 - NOV. 9 that I'm not familiar with. Any advice on best ways to fill this tag would be greatly appreciated?

For those guys who hunt/apply out of state, question, if you had max points in other states draws, what would your chances of drawing be? In 2018 I had 13 points for Wyoming, I had a 50% chance at a top tier tag, and drew. I’m just guessing my odds this year in Wa w 30 points were below 5%??

for hunts like you apply for here? About the same.

I drew Wenaha Rifle Elk, pretty excited. I had the late deer tag for this unit a few years ago and saw an absolute giant bull.

my bull tag had 11 tags and just over 800 apply. Wasn’t like I’m trying to get one of two tags with 3,000 applicants.

I'd bet they are worse in Washington. Although, I'm in the 20's in Colorado and cannot make any ground so at least you have a chance in WA. That will change in Colorado in a few years however when they go to a hybrid draw.
-
I drew the 49 degrees north early bull moose tag.
I will be up there with you. Congrats
-
I was very fortunate and pulled a Bull moose tag for Mt. Spokane South A. I only live a couple hours away so will be able to do plenty of scouting. I would appreciate any help if you have knowledge of this unit.
-
Mt. St. Helens south Goat tag for me. Hard to believe its true! Took my Goat identification test this morning and can't wait to hit the mountain soon.

Lucky dog, i'd love that tag. Make sure to research access with Inland Empire Paper company. I recommend swinging by White's Boots and getting the access permit. Good luck.

yup

I read somewhere in this forum that they no longer use witnesses for the draw. According to this article, that's not true....

I posted that…a friend who has contacts with WDFW told me that. Guess he was wrong. Thanks for the info!

I was also told there would be no witnesses by an employee, guess a few people were wrong.

Between me, my wife, and kids we were 0 for 40something.
-
I drew my first choice for antlerless deer ;D
-
I drew the 49 degrees north early bull moose tag.
I will be up there with you. Congrats
I am seriously jealous. Good luck man.
-
Might not be many that see it the same as me but I think they should cut choices in half for permits or change them all to only two choices like quality.
-

I have been saying this for years, would love to see them limit the choice options. Similar to how Idaho does it. Hard to think that State would willingly give up that much cash though.

But this would make no difference on odds of drawing. And sure wouldn't change anything as far as money spent on applications.

I've come to expect it, but I thought we might draw a youth tag or two.
-
Correct if they only limit choice, I was saying to make it you have to decide on applying for OIL or quality. Chance the # of choices is meaningless, if you want to improve odds you either need more tags or less hunters. Which of those is more likely to happen? Probably neither.
-
Might not be a popular opinion, but I think they should make you pick your deer species.
-
I think if they made you buy your OIL tags before the drawing, and made you decide between applying for OIL or deer, elk, number of applicants would drop in half at least!!! Thus, improving odds a tiny bit.

Lick Creek Quality Bull Muzzle loader.

So roughly 1 available tag per 80 applicants, in a random draw if you applied for that tag 30 times you'd still have roughly a 68% chance of NOT drawing. With the amount of high point holders in WA its silly to think you should be guaranteed a tag with odds like that, even sitting on 30
-
My wife and I will be busy this year! She drew an awesome New Mexico archery bull tag in the rut and I finally got lucky here with a cow tag and late whitetail tag! Good luck and congrats to everyone who drew tags!!
-
Hit on two draws this year across all categories both Antlerless (1334 and 2276). Will see if I need to fill them after the regular seasons or my trip to MT.
Keeping my average up with 14 draws since I started applying in '18
But now I have jinxed it!
Side question... are they re-issuing tags yet or how has that whole processed worked? Really jinxing myself now but if I do well in MT and find my first Bull during general here in WA, I'd probably definitely give my tags back if I knew they'd re-issue...? I don't think I could give my 2276 tag back but that would be obvious too if I killed during general I cant hunt it anymore so same question. Can you give a late season Antlerless tag back if you kill during general? I know you have to return it within two weeks of the hunt but does it benefit another hunter is what I am asking or am I just going to get my points?
-
Congratulations ever one who drew this year, last year was a great feeling drawing a QT deer tag, even better eating it. Good luck to all, didn’t apply for anything this year so I’m not in the looser lounge.🤣
Just can’t decide if I’m hunting modern, or archery this year for deer.🤔

I beg to differ. How many guys fill up four choices because they are there and our chances suck. I’ll be the first to say it every one of my app choices has a number in it of possible. If you took oils and quality down to one choice and all the rest two, that puts my name in for a quarter of the oils and half all the others. If half the applicants use every choice as do I that’s a good number of names not in the hat. Would’ve given some other guy a buck tag this year that valued the tag more than I did.

I understand, but not many high point holders apply for this, in fact, I was the highest point holder that applied for this hunt a couple times. Now the WDFW doesn’t show us that break down, those reports were nice to see. About 6-8 years ago I was the first loser, they had 8 tags back then, I was number 9, ouch! Last year with 29 points, I was over 4 thousand, 4k down the loser list!! To me that’s just unbelievable for a guy w 29 at the time. No idea yet where I landed this year, but to be over 4k on the loser list with 29 points seems like the system is really messed up.

unfortunately there isn’t a place to look, there should be!! Just have to call and hope to get the right person, right now they are pretty busy, I’d wait a couple weeks.
-
I drew a quality peaches archery tag that I’m pretty excited about and I know the area pretty well. My 17 year old drew a quality muzzy Alta deer tag. Pretty pumped and we have some scouting to do for that one at least the roads system.

Sure, certain hunt permits might become easier to draw. There's no way of really knowing how that would work out. But overall there's no way the odds would change. Same number of people applying for the same number of permits equals the same odds. I know quality deer and elk permits used to be 4 choices, and went to only 2. That sure didn't seem to make things any better.
-
The odds may change if there was only one option. If everyone decided to put in for the hard draw the easier ones would have more applications.
Any way you look at it, too many people applying for too few permits equals horrible odds.
The only way to reliably improve the odds is to remove more choices. If you could only put in for one elk tag total (choose quality, bull or cow), the odds of a given tag would go up. This won't happen as the revenue would go down and many people like buying a bunch of applications.
We're stuck with the system, it generates maximum revenue for WDFW and hunters are eternal optimists.
-
Drew Cowiche unit quality elk.. Holy Smolleys, wasn't expecting that with 9 points. Luckily it was my first choice and kinda my home unit. Now if anyone has any info on access from Nasty creek hit me up please.

Seems odd to call wdfw to say hey I lost the permit system. Can you tell me by how much I lost. I guess I just don’t see the point in taking up their time in regards to the matter since a loss is a loss. And there is always next year with hope.
As Ricky Bobby remembers the saying “if you ain’t first your last.” Very true in this circumstance. And well that’s me this year. Last. lol of course due to circumstances I wasn’t putting in for tags. But excited to see individuals on here draw and update how their seasons go with their tags. Always a blast to hear the stories.
-
Drew quality deer in the sauk. For a couple days I've been feeling resentful cause I didnt draw any tags, I just checked my emails, saw that I didnt get any from WDFW! I just decided to check the portal and BAM!.... SELECTED!
I'll take it!

My 12 year old drew the Yakima north muzzy tag as well. I know 340 and 342 very well will likely try to kill a cow there in the usual spots before general opens, not sticking around after that. But might just hunt 346. Haven't spent any time in there at all, have never had a reason to until now... Good luck, feel free to pm.

Got drawn for quality deer huckleberry late whitetail. Took 10 years. hope it’s a magical time out there in the woods. Anyone had this permit? Gonna be fun.

Drew my first tag - only took 14 years of applying, ha ha! I'm partially pissed off that I can no longer claim to be the most unlucky hunter ever at drawing tags, but at the same time I now have a WA archery cow elk tag in my pocket so woo hoo! This is the point we have come to in this state, where a cow tag is borderline OIL
