Title: Entiat Quality tag
Post by: waoutdoorsman on June 12, 2025, 10:38:22 AM
I have a question for entiat quality buck tag holders of the past, I’m sitting here trying to put in vacation and given the choice would you hunt 11/7-11/12 or 11/15-11-11/20? Unfortunately these two time frames are all I have to play with and it has to be one or the other, damn work. Just looking for advice on the time frame I know snow is everything for this permit but that’s unpredictable this far in advance.

The last five would be my priority if given the choice after having that tag.

I had the tag last year.  Fun hunt.  We saw different bucks daily.  Yes, the weather will play a factor and some snow would be great, but too much snow and you'll be limited on available roads. Last year we got about 14" of snow on the evening of the second to last day of the hunt.  I met 3 tag holders on the last day of the hunt who hadn't filled their tags yet and were limited to the roads in the bottom of the canyons.  That would make for a tough hunt.  You want to get high and spend most of the day glassing the canyons.
Probably the last 5 days, if that's all you've got and hope the weather cooperates.  Hopefully you can get over there on the weekends also.  I spent 11 days in there on 3 trips and wish I could have spent more time.

Plan on the last 5 unless there is a push of snow early

I drew the archery tag, will be my first legitimate quality mule deer hunt.  Looking forward to seeing your hunt goes as I prepare for mine.

Thanks guys 15-20th it is. I’ll be over there on the two weekends prior as well, super stoked and praying for snow

Plan on enjoying the hunt and seeing bucks but not using tag.  Lotta fun.  Or if you need to shoot something don’t be picky.

Exactly, fun too see all the deer but very few actual quality mature deer and most tag holders will either eat it or shoot something between 80-135”.

I’m just tickled to be able to chase mule deer during the rut and possibly the migration.  My dad said back in the good ol days they wouldn’t even bother heading up to Winthrop till after Halloween. As far as the lack of big bucks it’s okay if I wanted a tank I’d go out of state. I’m just looking forward to spending time in the entiat that time of year.

If you can get access to a snow machine, that would help a lot if the snow comes early. Don’t want to be sweating it out for the two weeks prior hoping you don’t get snowed out. The year I had the tag across the street, we were good with four chains until the 17th, and then needed snow machines to get to the spots. Got mine on the 19th. It’s not at all uncommon to have too much snow by the end.
