Sockeyes numbers way down from the projected, only 100k over Bonnie. 350k forecasted, damn shame, especially since we’ve been spoiled the last couple of years. I’m hearing the limit is going to be cut in half to 2 /fish a day after today’s meeting up at state. Let’s hope the run is just late but it’s not looking very good right now.

Spilt Milt on YouTube had a good video on it, didn't sound positive at all. From his perspective, there was nothing to indicate the run was late.

I was just up at the Baker Lake dams last week and they're expecting a record 60k return of Sockeye with a 6 fish limit on Baker Lake.
-
Baker sox are an incredible success story. In the late 70s, they were down to runs of fewer than 100 fish.
-
pianoman9701- I was given a tour of the hatchery at the upper baker dam and it's pretty state of the art. The main hatchery rears the fish through manual insemination, but they also have these gorgeous, fabricated gravel beds with a portion of the fish breeding naturally in pools of river water.
-
It's a great set up. In addition, the breeding areas of the lake are aerated. At one point, the water in the lake had little oxygen. So part of the recovery plan was putting in aeration pipes.
-
It's certainly one of the more beautiful places to catch a fish.

We’re heading for Entiat Thursday to give it a go. We’re not expecting too much. On another note the king run is doing great and their numbers are higher than last year but no keeping kings above Rock Island dam. Makes zero sense as usual.

Not sure if this has any validity to the low numbers but 4 years ago the okanogan water temp was 81* when the socks were sitting in the Brewster pool and a bunch of fish died. Heard a guy talking about it on a radio station🤷♂️

Heard something similar as well. Makes sense.

The liberal limit upriver does not help. Especially when they are all caged up and easy pickings… just my :twocents:

But I believe returning estimates are determined by smolt escapement correct? If so a die off of fish would have no bearing on this years return.

I wrote wdfw about the king season and got a garbage response with no information… I guess I shouldn’t be surprised with this BS state. There is 0 reason that they couldn’t have at least opened the season to 1 fish limit . The run isn’t that far off from a couple years ago with a 2 fish limit . Complete garbage from wdfw

Pretty sure it's the Commission making those decisions. They're very corrupted.
