Pretty good fishing up until a couple days ago. Some very nice kings were being caught.  I heard of a couple pushing 30 pounds.  Closed for kings as of today until July 17-19 for three days, then opens again on August first.  At least that's the way I understand it currently.  Always subject to change!

-
Good to hear there is some size to them this year.  Definitely plan to hit the window later in the month

I didn't see any emergency rules change stating closed for kings at all at this point?

Season ended yesterday, scheduled to reopen on the 18th.
-
Guess my memory isn't that good these days.  It's July already

-
Almost done getting my boat ready, can’t wait to rip some lips again.

-
Last year was epic for us in 11, never caught as many kings before.  My cousin who I consider one of the best fisherman on the water, especially in 11 has really spaced out this year, not one day on the water yet and he’s retired and single!!! I need my own damn boat!!

-
11 hasn't been all that this year so far.  Seeing how it is only open 4 more days in July 16-19th or something like that it aint looking good.  Hard to believe we now only get 4 days in July to fish for kings?  The best month in the year.  Wonder where those fish end up :bash:  Those 4 days were the best WDFW could give us little rec guys?  JUST LAME

I went to a Gig Harbor PSA meeting last August and asked the entire room who in there right mind would give up July for June.Almost all in attendance raised their hand.Blew my mind. The agenda of these groups is not always what it seems.
-
				A11 is best in August.

-
My dad and i got 4 in three outings biggest was 18.

-
Pretty slow today, caught a few but too short. All kings, no silvers.  Cousin killed two silvers yesterday.

-
Ended up with no kills, also saw no other boats pull a net out.

-
I hit the opener.  We caught 6 kings from 5am-noon one was 14ish native, 8lb hatch and lost another fish around 6-7lbs.  other fish were shakers.  my buddy went yesterday with his kids and they got two one 22lbs other was at least 17 not sure if they weighed that one but both hatchery fish.

-
Possible scenario is that we never caught the rest of our quota for June, it appears unlikely July quota will get caught since today is last day.  They might emergency rule keeping it open until July quota is filled.  Other possible scenario is that the WDFW "research" boat has been fishing Pt D area three times since it closed at end of June.  In those three tips they did not catch one fish.  That might mean they get nervous and who knows what happens with August.  Not sure if this is a good thing or bad thing.

-
We fished the evening slack and it was slow.  Around the white research boat and they didn't catch much.  Pretty slow for everyone.  Heard the morning bite was decent.  Bait fish were tough to find until about 5pm.  Fish checker said 14 fish all day.

I think the crowds this year made it tough for people who preferred to troll.  Jiggers and moochers get in the slot 140-200fow and you just can't troll where you want and end up too deep or too shallow.  Therefore jiggers and moochers did very well.  Most of the fish I caught trolling were in over 200fow.  I have a mean case of tennis elbow and jigging all day is out of the question.
-
I hear you on the jigging.  I lasted about 45mins and the wife said no thanks as well..  lol.  And yes, quite a few jigging but wasn't too bad for crowds actually.  It was busy but not as busy as I expected

Kings are great, but when you can limit on coho every day, why spend so much time and money trying to catch the unicorn, when coho are so easy to catch and are arguably better table fair? :dunno:

For me, just nothing like it when a big fish hits your rod.  When it pulls away from the down rigger, sets the hook by itself and strips your line, I swear I'm about to have a heart attack at that moment.  I do stress too much about losing the fish, need to relax there, but when you get it in the net and it doesn't have a fin, friggin fun!!  I'm not a huge fan of salmon for dinner, but I'm a huge fan of smoking them.

 :chuckle: I hear that!

Went out yesterday for the first outing of the year, lots of kayaks! :o

I was amazed how many people were casting for pinks, they were jumping everywhere. We managed to get our coho, but it took us a while, tough keeping the pinks off.

Coho should be coming in numbers any day, going try again in the morning.

sweet, heading out sat morn I hope!  Any certain depth or zone?
-
Fished last Friday evening, very slow, caught one king, no silvers.  Fished sat morning till about 4:30 in the afternoon, saw a few nets out, we only killed 3 silvers. Tons of shakers!  Buddy fished area 10 and limited quickly, I hope more silvers get here by Friday, if not we will motor an hour north !!

Caught three coho Saturday off Redondo. 35' on the ball first and second one, released the second as it was pretty small. Third fish (second keeper) at 40' on the ball. Guy at the ramp said he caught his at 90' on the ball.

Skunked yesterday, got my butt whooped by the wind, waves and current. Fished 20' to 55' on the ball with only one bite at 25' that didn't connect. Tried dropping down to 90' but the blowback was so insane I thought I'd picked up a big seaweed ball. Nope, line was clean. Need to get this boat sold so I can focus on getting a big boy boat!

I'll be throwing a bobber and cut plug herring setup after work this week. Probably around Dash/Browns.
-
We caught all 3 of ours around 120-130’ deep on the ball.

I only tried deep going up current...probably should have tried it going down current. Good motivation to get electrics on the next boat!

Misread the wind report last night and went out this morning…it was rough the first hour! Picked a buddy up at the dock, he ended up losing his breakfast about 90 minutes in. :chuckle:

We got our fish, but man was it tough to see the shaker bite! :yike:

saturday we must have caught 50 shakers, good thing at least one of the releases were popping when even the smallest ones hit.  My hands were killing me at the end of the day.  Sure hope 11 is full of silvers by thursday night and friday!

Anyone fishing shallow in 11 with banana weight, small dogger and herring or spoon?  Or is the bite in the ball and chasing schools.

Saw a guy on facebook that was 30-40 deep with a banana weight, believe he did catch some.  So many reports coming in it sounds like it's heating up a bit. I'll find out in a couple hours.   Been also seeing white hoochie is the ticket, and spoons. Some guys said herring wasn't necessary, but I put on a herring filet last weekend and had one on in a minute, but I was at 120' deep.

I fished last weekend in MA10 so take it for what its worth but we were 30' on the wire with a flasher and white hoochie with a THIN hearing strip, like just a little wider than a tentacle. I am guessing our gear was up around 20' and it was wide open bite. We did try deeper and kept catching kings so we came back up. This was at all times of the day too. We saw TONS of coho boiling and jumping all day which is why we elected to fish up high.
-
I’d argue we catch as many fish in 11 as anyone, and I fish 26’ and 32’ on the downrigger line. :twocents:

 YMMV

If I had no DR's I would use a delta diver w/fish flash and a Brads cutplug or spinfish behind it between 12 and 25 pulls out. Coho trolling is fast at 3-4mph and a banana weight/dodger combo would likely rise to the surface from the drag. If I had to use a banana weight I would swap the dodger for a small fish flash as there would be less drag.  :twocents:

Fished 11 last night, windy, and got our butts kicked, one take down, no fish. Today from Des Moines we motored up to area 10, an hour ride, and had 3 limits in 2 hours!!! Way worth the gas to get there!!

-
Well, any new info?  Looks like 10 has slowed down, and only heard a little about 11 being slow.  Lock jaw set in?? Have to decide between two more days of fishing 11 or hit the hills for a bear?!

-
Buddy of mine went out to Redondo Wednesday and today.  Fished the morning tides till early afternoon.   Said he didn't see a thing or mark much on Wednesday and was skunked.  Today he caught two in quick succession on spoons.  Still some around I guess.

Fished Friday evening at Redondo, caught a king right out of the marina, after that, didn’t mark anything.  No fish, did manage to get a line wrapped up in the kicker and somehow managed to break the pole and get fiberglass in my finger.  There must be pieces in my knuckle, swollen, sore as hell and very hard to bend. Damn
