Curious if anyone has just hung up a stand near well trafficked bear areas and waited for them to show up (not hunting over bait). I was thinking about doing that this year particularly in early august and early mornings near known areas. Any comments on the viability of this strategy? Normally i just spot and stalk...

It works if you have a good food area.

If you can handle the boredom, I would think you will need a reliable food source such an apple trees, not sure I would bother with Blacktail berries unless there was a good view point that covered a lot of ground to see one.

Yes it works. This is how I got my first bear. Had a timbered strip area along a small creek that a trail camera caught bears coming through frequently. No good areas to glass from so took a stand in. Sat for two hours and got extremely bored with only a few small pockets to see into. Started calling and that changed everything. Very exciting when a bear silently appears in your shooting lane.

I killed my first bear out of a tree stand while bow hunting blacktails. I've seen a few bears while in a tree stand

I would do it over berries with a lot of bear sign OR where I consistently have pics...
