Title: Utah cow elk hunt
Post by: kselkhunter on July 05, 2025, 02:54:14 PM
Tried cashing out all my Utah points before prices go up next year.  Surprised I didn't draw deer and antelope.  But did draw cow elk tag.  Manti unit, the Horn Mountain sub-unit.  Nov 19-Dec 31 season.  Will see how many scouting trips I can get in between now and then, as I haven't been to that area before.   Will be my last application for Utah, so hoping to have some fun.

Anybody on here hunted the Manti unit for elk before?

Hunted it years ago. Several access points, but really gonna depend on weather that late. My guess is good chance of high country will be snowed out.  Those elk come down in a hurry.  Hard to tell you where to scout because totally different areas depending on the snow.

I’ve hunted the unit a lot. Weather determines  where the elk will be during season. I would not waste time and money scouting early when elk are on summer range. Winter range is usually completely different areas. Use your money and time scouting a few days before season opens so you are scouting the elk where they will be when season opens!   :twocents:
