Post by: CP on July 22, 2025, 04:27:11 PM
As many predicted, more for 10, no more for 9.

Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife
July 22, 2025

Marine Area 10 (Seattle and Bremerton Area) opens for three additional days of salmon fishing
Action: Opens Chinook salmon retention.

Effective date: July 24 through July 26, 2025.

Species affected: Chinook salmon.

Location: Marine Area 10, except: Shilshole Bay and waters of Elliott Bay east of a line from West Point to Alki Point remain closed to salmon fishing. Sinclair Inlet and Port Orchard, Agate Pass Area, and year-round piers (Bremerton Boardwalk, Illahee State Park, Seacrest Pier, and Waterman Pier) follow rules listed in the 2025-26 Washington Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet.

Salmon rules: Daily limit is two salmon including no more than one hatchery Chinook. Chinook minimum size is 22 inches. All other salmon species, no minimum size. Release chum and wild Chinook.

Reason for action: Catch estimates for the Marine Area 10 summer Chinook fishery indicate that through July 20, 30% of the harvest quota (951 of 3,166), and 7% of sublegal encounters (453 of 6,742) have been reached. Based on daily catch rates, sufficient quota remains to allow for this additional opening of the 2025 summer Chinook season.

Pretty crazy, I would have bet money against it.  It's actually pretty smart, open it all up on the same day and one area won't get clobbered.

It was choppy between the big tide change and wind in 7. Getting out there in the AM was rough but coming back in the afternoon was smooth sailing.

I really wish they'd pay attention to things like tide when they give us a day. Huge currents, tons of junk in the water and lots of wind made it hard. Had 5 boat rattling hits that popped off the dr and not one fish got hooked. Frustrating day on the water.

We are still out here trying to get on the board. We were literally just discussing that we think they put these extra days knowing the tides are crappy and act like they are heros for giving us extra days.

Been pretty slow since they reopened it in 11.  We've released a few wilds and boated a couple around 10 pounds.  Maybe they shot through the point area although there is some pretty good bait there.  May be time to hit some spots in area 13.

Released a bigger native and a couple shakers… we lost 6 or more… but letting the kids fish is the most fun part of being out there.

Slow! We managed one in area 7, didnt see another fish caught and the wind was concentrating the boats. Fish checker said ours was the third fish of the day at 1 pm when we came through.

Can't see that the quota was caught yet somehow I'd be surprised to see another day.

Wind died down and we had a decent evening. It was a strong morning bite but we weren't there. One boat we talked to land 3 and lost 3 between 9 and 11am

We caught our three by 8am Saturday, nothing too sizable at #10/7/5 and a couple bonus pinks. Didn't see tons of action around us, saw lots of boats still out on my our way back in. Green flies and green spoons were our ticket, whole herring wasn't producing like it has been for me. My son bounced out of bed at 430am and didn't complain once. He did mention that he was worried about sea monsters eating us during the 30 minute ride in the dark to the grounds :chuckle:

Fun times were had in the rough weather. I was the only boat down where we wet salmon fishing today. Headed past Tatoosh was real nautical, once we made it a little ways out it was just rollers. The kings showed up with this weather. We had multiple doubles on kings and got a few in the boat today.
