Title: New 2025 CVA Optima ?
Post by: VickGar on July 31, 2025, 05:07:32 PM
Just checking in to see if anyone has spent some time with the new CVA Optima?
I am interested in purchasing one but definitely like getting feedback first.

Thanks

Picked one up a month plus ago and put a Vortex 1x24 scope on it.  I'm casting Lyman Plains bullets and sizing them to 0.501.  I've been using punched wool felt wads over 90 grains of Goex 2f followed by a lightly lubed slug.  I'm getting 3 shot touching groups at 50 yards so far.  I've only tried once at 100 yards and was about 6" low, but the 2 shots were touching, directly below the bullseye.  I intend to raise the 50 yard group to 2-3" high and hopefully be somewhere around 2-3" low at 100 yards.  So far I'm liking it, but I never thought I'd shoot an in-line.  I've been a traditional percussion or flint/open sights guy all my life, but my old eyes don't do well with open sights any more.

Awesome , thanks for the feedback! I just ordered mine about a week ago through Sportsman’s Warehouse. Just waiting for it to arrive. This will be my first venture into muzzleloaders so looking forward to the experience!

You will really like the features and performance of the Optima’s.  I really like the easy maintenance with the removable breech and best of all it is a very accurate rifle.  I use Hornady XTP’s in a green sabot under Blackhorn 209 and it is a great shooter.  Looks like the new 3’s add some nice features.  Good luck.

I’m a bit bummed out, I smoked a smaller 4 point during archery so now I won’t be able to use my muzzleloader
