Took these today. Way TOO hot for critters though. I saw one Billy and was only able to get about 100 yards from him. The Indian Paintbrush was cool though. It was growing off the side of a rock knob, probably 20 feet up in the air. And meh, Butterflies are always pretty so what the heck.
-
Beautiful pictures everyone! ;)

Here's one from the Alpine Lakes
Source Lake?
-
Source Lake definitely not. Source Lake is tiny. Snow Lake more likely.
-
Your money Ray, that's looking at snow lake from the bottom of the valley. We were headed up to the upper lake (gem)on the other side. Pretty easy hike lots of people, but the wife likes to go up there.
-
I see the lake is larger now. Only time I have ever been in that area was under snow. Everything looks different then. At least Source Lake is near by ;)
-
Can I play
-
Second entry. I have more pictures in my mountain goat picture thread (7-12-2009) but this nanny we figure has 14+ inch horns!!! :o

Shane, that's one sweet photo. I saw your Mtn Goat thread, and thought this was the best one of the bunch. Wish I'd been there!

Heres my 2nd entry from last weekend. :)
-
A walk through the prairie dog patch results in several firsts, first prairie dog hunt for the whole family, a boy's first hunt and a boy's first kill, a dad's first badger. It was cool being involved in another boys first hunt. Brought back a lot of good memories from my childhood. Grandson, Dad, Grandpa, this was a fun weekend.
-
Yes sir- looks like another tough month for the July competition! Lots of winners for sure.
Here is a "bright spot" that I will put in the mix, for my second entry.
This was taken last August. It was 106* in the shade at the time I was photographing this red sunflower. Believe you me, I did not look half as perky as this flower at the time!

This was a fairly tight contest until Javman entered his Goat and Waterfall picture. That thing was a slam dunk. Congratulations Javman on an AWESOME photograph and this months winner of the POM contest. I have waited my whole lif for a picture like that. WOW!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
The photos this month were fantastic everyone. Thanks for showing off a little bit of your talent. There were 3 or 4 photos in here that would have won any other month. Javman really had a special photo.
-
Javman really had a special photo.
All the more special because of what he had to go thru to get it. Camping in the enchantments. Packing all that gear up over big-time elevation changes. Then having to practically run over ridiculously difficult terrain in order to get in position in time, before the goat got all the way across. Sometimes great images come easily, but it's all the sweeter when they require some type of supreme effort. When so many factors all had to come together perfectly in order to get the shot. That's special.
-
With all these pro's I am never gonna win. Really good picture thou
-
HIGH FIVE to ya, Javman. Incredible photographs for sure.

A-MEN to that! I've taken A LOT of pictures and have seen A LOT more and that one is tops!
-
Thanks I'm honored! Glad I ran for the shot now :chuckle: When we set up camp there earlier in the day, I was thinking how cool it would be to get some goat shots with the waterfall in the background. I didn't think one would actually walk across the top of it.
I'd climbed up to the top of the waterfall and crossed it to the left to take pics of the same goat. After taking pics for about 5 minutes, I stood up to retreat. That's when she (I think it was a nanny?) stood up and started walking towards me. In the time it took the goat to walk 50 feet, I had to cover about at least a hundred yards and hop off the cliff to get to where I took the pic. The first three pics were overexposed, because I'd dialed in +1.0 for the snow earlier. I had to crank that down, then turned on bracketing, and fired 13 more shots in about 10 seconds. There's a few blurry ones :chuckle:
Here's a pic my dad took a few minutes before. He just had a hip replaced 7 months ago, and I think I complained more than he did on this trip...

I agree. Great shots. The Enchantments hold that name for a reason.
