This year started back in March by calling to secure a pair of lambs for our son. We have bought lambs from our friends/breeder for our kids since my daughter first started in 4-H, so we were a little surprised when they told us they didn't have enough lambs to sell to us this year. After talking to our FFA advisor, she recommended a breeder who was just starting out who would love to sell my son a pair of lambs. Done! My son went out a few weeks later and made his choices. Summer went good, lambs grew well, and fair time has arrived. Lots of lambs at fair this year. Word on the street is a few hog exhibitors switched to lambs trying to turn a profit. Day one of the Grant County Fair brings Market Lamb competition. My son worked at getting his lamb clean and prepped for the show ring. About 15 min prior to heading over to start lining up, he backed his lamb off the sheep stand. The lamb stepped off the side of the stand and tumbled over on its side into a muddy spot near the stand. YIKE! He worked quickly to wash the dirt/mud from his lamb and made line up in time. Lamb still looked pretty good considering what had happened. Sons lamb weighed in at 118lbs, and showed in a large class. Son won his class and received a call back to the championship. He came up short of winning the market championship, but pretty happy with how it turned out. Buying from a new breeder, we were not sure what to expect, getting a call back was pretty nice! On to Fit & Show.

Congrats! Great work... We have 4 steers going to fair next week. Any idea what turn prices were on steer at Grant County fair?

Nice work. My oldest daughter is excited for Ben Franklin next week and her lamb.

Good luck to Hunt-WA families heading to upcoming fairs! It sure is a fun time!
I haven't seen or looked at any turn prices...I really should take a peek!

Fitting & Showing went well for my son. It was so hot, even with the breeze. Son got a call back for Fitting & Showing. Judge worked the kids well in the final. Was not the boys year to win. He showed very well, and really, you could make a good argument for any of the exhibitors in the final be named champion. On to the sale on Friday!

Ive got Grandkids showing sheep and pigs at Grant Co fair. My grandson got a call back on his pig in market but fell short after that. They all had a great time and will be taking their other animals to Othello in a couple weeks. It is fun to see their enthusiasm and to see all the hard work up to this point pay off. Lots of smiles.

A call back is something to be proud of. Especially in E-Wa with stiff competition from experienced livestock kids. Congrats to all.

Floor price for steers at our sale tonight $2.50/pound. Overall champion steer went for $6.25, reserve champion $5.25.
Evergreen State Fair in Monroe. We sold a $50/pound hog, a $20/pound Boer goat, a $1300 market rabbit and a $2000 turkey that went 34 pounds and change.
My 24 market rabbit kids averaged $406/head skewed a little by the $1300 one :chuckle:

Those are pretty great prices for the kids! Sounds like things went well!
