My hunting buddy and I dedicated the entire Labor Day weekend to hunting bears this year. We met up on Friday and hunted the evening with very little to share when we both got back to camp that evening. The woods were full of people and side by sides everywhere we went. That night we discussed our game plan for the morning and both decided all day sits in deep dark canyons were the right play to get away from people. So well before sunrise we split up and headed opposite directions, I went to a spot where we had bear sporadic activity on camera throughout the summer and he went to an all new area that neither of us had been into for many years. When I got to my spot I had low hopes of seeing anything due to the bear being there the day prior and never showing up two days in a row before. To my surprise after only about 30 minutes of sitting I could hear movement in the thick brush slowly moving my direction, within a few moments this dry sow was standing 35 yards from me quartering away. I sent a round her way and watched her flop around for a second then disappear back into the brush, clearly seeing signs of a solid hit from where I was sitting. At that same moment my phone vibrated, it was my hunting buddy texting me to say that he had a bear down and needed help with the pack out! We were fifteen miles apart both with bears down and ugly pack outs ahead of us. So I called my brother and nephew in to help with the work load. We have doubled on deer and elk before but this was our first bear double. Between the two of us we have harvested seven bears in seven years, four for me and three for him. He had never hunted anything prior to 2021 and has taken three nice bears, and one hell of a white tail buck so far!

Great Job On Such A hot Weekend
that is no joke! We were both able to get them broken down quickly, and fortunately for me my brother operates a fruit business so we have access to a cold room, and were able to get both bears in cold storage quickly. When I got back to my truck it said it was 96 degrees.

Love it when a good game plan meets with success. Congrats to you both!

I am headed out on Sunday for a Monday - Thursday hunt and I am incredibly anxious that the canyon is going to be blown out with weekend warriors and their JBL speakers. All of my research said this was a low traffic area.... Until I read the last WTA report. Regardless, theres at least one spot within the area that I know no one will go to, and hunting pressure should be low because high buck is next weekend.
