Title: BBQ Flats camping during modern?
Post by: tbrady on October 23, 2025, 11:27:01 AM
Hey Guys,

My 13yo wasn't able to do muzzy this year due to football so I'm planning on taking him for a day or two for modern instead.  I was thinking to take our 25ft motorhome and sxs down to Umtanum and camping at BBQ flats.  Does anyone know how busy/crowded it gets there during modern?  I have only ever hunted Umtanum during late archery.

Colockum is also a possibility, I just assume that there would be no place to park the mh and trailer there at the bottom of Colockum rd.  At least when I was there many, many years ago during modern there were a lot of vehicles/trailers in the pulloff areas.

Any input greatly appreciated!

We hunted the BBQ flats area the last two years as my son drew the youth cow tag.  It was crowded, but there were plenty of places to park / camp.  You definitely won't be alone and will have plenty of neighbors, but most folks we met were super pleasant.

Full disclosure......we were not there opening weekend, we showed up monday or tuesday after the opener.

Thanks Jrebel!  Did you guys have any luck with that tag?

First year, he ended up killing a spike on the last day of the rifle general elk.

Second year, he killed a cow after the general was over and during the youth cow season.
