When I was hunting the Methow I thought I should got a new Okanogan National Forest Map. Mine has a date of 1999 so thought new would be better. Well, went to Winthrop Valley Ranger District office , in Winthrop. Oh, it was shut down,, or at least the front door was locked with note saying they were closed. then I saw some employees walking out of side door and asked them about getting a new map. They said "if you you have an old map it probably has more roads etc because the new maps don't show closed roads anymore. I guess they don't think hunters would like to know if there is an old grade or road to help get an animal out of the woods. I get the protect the animals thing? or should I say make it as hard as they can for hunters.
On opening day of season there was a HUGE bike "something" at the Loop Loop ski resort. More bikes and Spandex all over the pass. It was great it, it even snowed a little! :IBCOOL: But they are also working on Bear Mountain to widen trails for more Spandex clad bikers. Bear Mountain was on of the first places my Dad took me hunting in the 1960's. Of course taking habitat away from "Deer " is most important now.
Rant Over!
