Hello HuntWA-
Looking for some guidance on a potential purchase. I have a Savage Model 16FXP that a buddy of mine rebarreled to 7mm-08 (originally .243). New barrel has a 5/8-24 threading on the end. I love this rifle. However, it is loud (even without a muzzle brake), and I'd like to be able to hunt without earmuffs at some point, or at least not get my ears blasted if I take a shot without hearing protection.
I've been looking at the SilencerCo Scythe-Ti. Any thoughts on this suppressor, especially given the rifle in question? Thanks all!

I don't have any experience with the scythe, however my kids shoot their Ruger American compact with my Silencerco Omega 300 and it makes it really nice for them to shoot and for me to be next to them when they're shooting.

I have been using a Rugged Radiant 7.62 Titanium on my 30-06 and 300 WinMag, also use it on my 300 Blackout. Really light weight (12 ounces) and reduces sound enough to fire a couple shots without hearing protection. Not sure of the recommendation for hearing protection, but a lot better than shooting with a brake. My WinMag shoots awesome with a brake but the noise is awful! :twocents:

I'd take a real hard look at one of these. https://airlockindustries.com/product/zero-gravity-7mm/
Airlock Industries is kind of a new kid on the block. For their size and weight which is only 6.6oz and 5.5 long they are pretty impressive. I'm a big fan of Dead Air Nomad Ti and LTi XC cans and they're going to be quieter but they're also longer and heavier too.
They've had a good amount of Scythe cans coming apart on a variety of different rifles so that is one I would do a lot of research on before I bought one, and, they really aren't all that quiet.
-
@dreadi probably has some good feedback for you here.
-
I have a Ruger Gen 2 chambered in 7mm-08, with a Banish 30 Suppressor on it from Silencer Central. Absolutely love how quiet it is, and even has reduced the recoil even more on a fairly low recoil gun.
Only cons are its 9" with the tube extension, 7" without and a bit heavier than most suppressors, especially with the extra 2" tube extension.

Thats a classic can, I want to get one for my son. I have a sico harvester evo on my 7mm mag, I cant believe how quiet and the recoil reduction, its amazing.
Read too many stories on the scythe ti cracking

Scythe and Nomad may give you hearing safe shooting, they will take the edge off. Anecdotal notes, I ordered and sold 2 Scythe Ti, and 50% of them blew up. I use a Nomad Ti on a 6.8 SPC bolt action, it takes the edge off.
Unless someone is dead set on the lowest weight/shortest length combination, I will always recommend going no shorter than something in a 7" package.
And of course I have Ultra 7s and Enticer L-Ti silencers on hand.

I love my Thunderbeast 7”. Shoot it mostly on my 300wsm and makes hunting shots very easy on the ears. I have the 5” also, doesn’t reduce sound near as much, I have it on an ultra short .308 setup as a brush gun for blacktail.
-
If weight is not critical I would stay with steel. I like my Omega 36m as an all around. The trash panda from Q has been my go-to hunting suppressor for 30-06 30-378 and 308. Strong but light weight and good suppression.

I'd be looking at the following:
TBAC Ultra 7 (the standard by which others are measured)
Dead Air Nomad Ti XC or Nomad-30
AB A-10 (budget friendly)
Otter Creek Hydrogen S
CGS Hyperion K
Unknown Suppressors Reaper
Airlock Zero Gravity 7mm
As others have mentioned, the problem with the Scythe is weld failures. There's some good info on this issue in the thread linked below. A few of the above are 3D printed titanium, which significantly reduced that potential failure.

Thanks, all! I appreciate the input.
Dreadi, might follow up with you if that's OK. Just need to note I'm an Oregon resident now, if that makes a difference.

I have a TBAC Ultra 9 on an 18” 6.5 CM and a Magnus on a 24” 6.5 PRC. Both provide great noise/recoil reduction. With the Magnus on the PRC you can hear the bullet impact the animal.

@elkboy
I've bought 3 suppressors. All from Dreadi.
If I ever feel the need for a 4th, he'd be the first guy I call.
Great at answering questions, and great customer service for me all the way around.

 Awesome. Love this community.

Hoping the video below will work…
This is the buck my son shot this year with my 6.5 PRC/Magnus combo at 190 yards. I was standing about 2 steps behind him and maybe 1-2 steps to the right in order to get the shot thru my spotter. Not everyone wants to hunt with a can the size of a Magnus, but I will take the size trade-offs all day long.

Thats a great video!! Id just shorten a barrel if it was too long, short ranges like that you dont need much anyway.

I have two. The banish 30 and the banish back country. Really like them both. Once you commit you won’t be disappointed!
-
On a bolt gun like that the AB A-10 would be tough to beat for price, size, durability & sound.

I see you have already had contact, put another plug for Dreadi.
He answered all my 'silencer newbie' questions. I have not bit yet but will reach out to him first when I do.

@dreadi
Any chance you ever sell any Unknown Suppressors or Airlock products?
-
Shout-out to @dreadi ! Just had a great phone call with him- knowledgeable, friendly, super great help on suppressor choices and shooting in general. We're moving ahead!

No, they appear to be direct to consumer sales. None of my distributors carry them.
