Title: Elk, snow and one weirdo...
Post by: saylean on November 27, 2007, 09:21:07 AM
Buddy of mine went elk hunting over thanksgiving, late archery, clockum area. Saw some elk, snow, etc. Was packing up at night so he didnt have to do it all at once in the morning...turns around..some bearded guy snuck up on him and was just standing there, staring,.....in his camp. It about made him jump outta his skin. They guy appeared drunk and my friend got a "really weird vibe". The guy goes back across the road, grabs his rig and camper and ends up camping next to my friends camper...(he drove up and my buddy didnt hear him cause he was packing up)

Needless to say, my buddy was glad to have his camp pistol with him. Just a reminder...watch out for people, even when your in an area where there shouldnt be many. It ended without incident...maybe he was just a drunk..but still...ya never know. I know I would never sneak up into a camp at night without making sure they knew I was coming.

A MAN!  And that goes for day time to.  Give a "HELLO" at 50 yards, and get a "COME ON IN".

Gotta wonder what the dudes initial intentions were?  Do you gotta have a concealed weapons permit for the camp pistol?  Like many of you, I always give a Hellllllooooooooo from a afar before I waltz into someones camp.

Well the clockum is notorious for having the so called "Seattle" hunters. I wouldn't exactly say all are ethical hunters. Usually alcohol and firearms or hunting doesn't mix unless in moderation. Not that alcohol is bad but too many times a guys drink increases his liquid courage and things happen that normally wouldn't. Like the kid last week that was drug 4 miles down the road by a rope at a hunting camp where alcohol was involved. Moderation seems to be the best philosophy.

Maybe he was lonely?

I would have said, "you aren't thinking of camping here are you?"

Hey Saylean! The last two early archery seasons in the Colockum a drunk bearded man[called himself Whiskey Jack] came into our camp at night. He looked a little strange :o but seemed harmless. I guess he has been hunting that area for years. He's an awsome harmonica player! ;) lol, straps

sounds like mr bojangels..... the clockum is a very ummm, unique? place during elk season. by unique i mean joke.

But if you're in camp why not wear it in the open?  My Browning Hi-Power with it's 17rd mag always is.

I might be wrong on this,  but check out RCW 9.41.060. If you are hunting or camping you can carry conceled without a permit.

Come to think of it...he did ask if I could squeel like a pig... ;) kidding kidding..i wasnt there...but still...a person, (drunk or not) should have the sense to announce he is entering a camp well before he gets there...especially at night...

And hey...im a "seattle hunter"..i mean i live in redmond..but i guess you could call it seattle...

capeche ;) I just had to ... sorry nothin personal sky I'm just playin! I don't even live in Seattle (born there though) I'm 50 Miles SE in the foothills of the Cascades but it does get a little tiring that it's an us vs. them mentality. I was hoping you weren't one of those Eastsiders I meet that when I say " Hi How are you?" you say "where you from?" instead of saying hi back, I can't tell you how often that happens. I should just say " Hi I'm a 206er where you from?" now that would confuse the hell out of them!!!!!!

Nope M_ray I am an AHE hunter and the important thing with us is hunters ethics. So it best to turn a cheek to any abrasive hunter and walk away. I would just say 425er here and shoot the krap. The disturbing thing for me is the so called hunters who get drunk and start shooting up things from signs,to gate, to trees. I take my hunting very serious and enjoy it in the same breath.

RAn into those types in the clockum first thing dude asked was where we were from, but no problem for me Im not from seattle and my dad grew up in east wenatchee and I lived there for a long time and then moved to omak and we talked to him since we werent "coasties" he told us where he saw elk expecting the same from us yeah right we dont care where your from get outta our huntign spot. My dad used to hunt their not seeing another person. we hunt below the clockum.

Don't understand why east siders always ask where you from?  I always say goldendale now.  They are a lot more friendly if you tell them that than the west side.  I'm from southwest washington though and i always complain about the city guys hunting where I hunt.  Does that make me a big of a jerk as some eastsiders?  Maybe i'm just a  hypocrite.

I wonder if they would complain if I came over for a blacktail hunt?? call me a 509er or a easter I dunno? Maybe I should try it or some elk hunting on the west side to see what happens.

I was gonna reply "Did he hear banjo music?" but somebody beat me to it!  :chuckle:

Seriously, Washington State has an "Open Carry" law, which means you can carry a handgun "in the open" at ANY time. Its carrying it CONCEALED that requires a permit.

M_ray-Get used to it! Folks over here don't like folks from "over there", hehehe. The ONLY thing hated more are kalifornian's!!!   :tung:

We like guns an purty girls, and have a few ourselves, we just don't want any west-siders lookin' at our wemonfolks!
By the way....You got a purty mouth???  :IBCOOL:

Come on over! I'm confused too, not sure what I am :dunno:  30 years in Okanogan Co. and last 7 1/2 in SW Wa.  So who do I belong to?  I hunt deer back home in the Okanogan, and elk here at home in SW Wa.  Treat the land and people with respect, a person ought to be welcome anywhere, I guess.

Littletoes ... I am used to it I spend allot of time there and it is that kind of attitude that is more annoying than anything else ... kinda like being on the 8th day of a 10 day hunt and your A$$ just could use a clean scrubbing cause your sphincter itches and no matter how hard you try to stick your finger up there you can't get any relief! But it doesn't stop you from finishing your hunt.

I know all about the east side my mom was born in Oroville I have family East Not to mention some of the nicest people I've met are on the Eastside. Why do you think I spend most my time off there? Besides it's not all the Eastsiders that are like that just the ones that sound retarded when they talk like that. You better be more careful when you post or some might get you cornfused wit thems kinds.  ;)

Let me ask you this, what do you have to Hate me for anyway? Just because I don't live where you do? I think you are in the minority when you say Eastsiders HATE Westsiders some of my best friends live in Eastern WA and they are smart enough to understand that where a person chooses to live doesn't determine their character.

Quote
We like guns an purty girls
So do I ... We're more alike than you think!

Quote
The ONLY thing hated more are kalifornian's!!!

Oh and BTW Census staticstics prove that on average there are more nonresident transplants entering WA from back in the Mid West and East than from California anyway, But that must be OK with you cause apparently a person gets smarter the farther East they come from!

my only beef with the "206er's" has been situation specific. the *censored* that would rather pay the ticket than pack that runt mule deer out of the kettle crest was straight off the coast. he rolls up to a foot traffic only area and parks the 3 axle toyhauler and takes the rhino and a quad up the trail cutting blow downs so he can get a round the sign.....the no motorized vehicles sign. he gets a warning and a ticket and does it again....nice, real nice.

another time a guy drops a pretty decent forkie. he is nervous as all get out, I told him I can't help you out of here because of the antler requirements, but wished him the best....guess where he was from.

I suppose it is the eastside opportunity that gives us a higher opinon of ourselves. I can go out and shoot coyotes every day of the year and all I am out is an hour and $5.00. I think we tend to view most west side guys as sitting in line at starbucks in the beemer.....or lifted d-max with 20 window stickers, and that being the recreation for the coast.

with that said there are MOSTLY decent hunters on this site. I would hunt with most of the guys here. truth be told you can learn from everyone you meet, some teach you what to do.....other teach you what not to do.

Title: Re: Elk, snow and one weirdo...
Post by: littletoes on December 31, 2007, 09:20:28 AM
Its not ALL west siders, nor is it ALL east siders, as with everything, its a select few that screw everything up for everyone.

I personaly think I see more east siders drinking and raising hell at hunting camp, instead of hunting. I don't mind guys letting off a bit of steam, getting drunk while in hunting camp, I just ask they be courtious to other camps that may be close by. If you drink, leave the guns alone.

Your guns should be sighted in BEFORE you come to elk or deer camp. Please don't shoot around MY camp. I'm there to hunt, and the only shots I want to hear are those fired at game animals. Don't shoot tweety birds if they ain't on the menu's...etc. etc....

The east side/west side thing for me??? I think the voting record holds the truth for me. There's quite a few more liberals over on the west side than over here.

But we have so many transplants over here, it just doesn't matter anymore, and the funniest part? Most that come over here for hunting season, ARE HUNTERS! ;)  They have guns, and want to keep 'em. That makes them like us.

What amazes me, how far folks will come to hunt, and how much they will spend. That gives me a bit of respect, and anyone that runs into me in the woods can truly say that I personally always help out fellow hunters.
Thats not totaly true, if you are breaking the law, like said above (entering closed to motor rigs areas, with a rig, etc.) I won't help you, hell I may even call the State Patrol, or better yet, the local Game Warden...I did go to school with her.

Maybe its the fact that they spent so much, they DESERVE a game animal and bend the rules a bit? I don't think so. I've been skunked as much or more than the next guy, its called hunting, thats why we're out there.

Perhaps city folks don't think like country folks.......?

The same thing has happend to me and it was an Eastsider ... so it happens both ways.

another time a guy drops a pretty decent forkie. he is nervous as all get out, I told him I can't help you out of here because of the antler requirements, but wished him the best....guess where he was from.
Same thing here I hiked 2 miles out of my way to get the license plate and report it the way we all should to help stop this kind of stuff and after the warden visited the guy at his house in YAKIMA he called me to tell me he didn't ticket him. " The buck had a 3rd point ya know" Ya if you want to call it that I said the Game Regs. state clearly it must be AT LEAST AN INCH. Well put it this way if the regs would have read at least 1/4 of an inch it still would have been illegal!
Theres way more to this story but I'll end it with and to top it of he was with his young son so what is he teaching the next generation of hunters?
And another thing:
-I don't live in the city I can shoot coyote's right out my back door if I want
-My F-250 Powerstroke isn't lifted, My wiener isn't that small!
-Don't spend my money at Starbucks (wish I could get my wife on board with that but I'm working on it) the rat *censored* sold the Sonics away to OK.

And Finally I agree with ya

From what I understand it IS!!! so stinkin THICK!! Ive hunted whitetails in that crap and its tough.

My dad had a branch bull stolen from him during muzzleloader season by two coastie but eastsider might do that too. he shot it in the lungs and was reloading adn waiting for it to bleed out when he heres a BOOM!!! and goes down there to see two guys standing there and the bull with a hole in its head and the hole my dad made in the lungs with a ton of blood. He left as their isnt much he can do but later on saw them packing it out in black plastic garbage bags haha.

Oh and another thing...
I am not a liberal
My gun is sighted in before I get to camp (I belong to a gun club)
I don't f with my guns when I have been drinking
I eat what I shoot (unless it's a yote)
and my camp is allways cleaner than when I arrived!

Both sides suck.  We have all screwed up someone elses hunt by accident.  We have all thought about taking that out of season buck.  We have all had our hunts screwed up by someone else.

I had my stove, packboard, 50ft of rope, pack cover and fuel stolen from my truck @ elk camp near Randel this year.  The local police said it was meth junkies.  Wonder what side they were from?

Don't you see how stupid you make yourself look evertime you post again you are assuming a persons Geographical location is the excuse to blame why the C*nt is in office! Well once again I am trying to make you realize that we are more alike than you want to admit. Just because I live on the west side doesn't mean I voted for her  Don't you have a better argument than that? You see every time you try you look even more retarted ... Huntnphool, That's phunny right there cause I'm actually a 360 and you live closer to the city 206 er's than me! Well "the people over there" like littletoes refer to all of us as 206 er's just cause we are from the westside I guess some of them can't keep up with all the zip codes ... hell I can't either. And ya you know me I never back down from a good fight, nothin wrong with a little scrap once in awhile!

lets take the geographic stereotyping to general discussion and see if we can get a bit more takers in the discussion.

Sorry about that highcountry there's really only one person that pushed this into a geographic stereotype bash. I guess I'm the only one that took acceptation to the fact that littletoes came right out and said he hated Westsiders. I'm just playing around more than anything ... just trying to get his goat and it's working  ;)
But you are right ultimately there is now way I am going to change littletoes mind because people from the eastside that have his narrow minded ignorant attitude towards the westsiders need someone to blame for their situation.

Besides if he would wake up and realize he needs us over here to keep the greenies, bunnyhuggers and treehuggers in check ...hummm just a thought here littletoes could it have been the greenies, bunnyhuggers and treehuggers that voted for Gregoire? So don't blame us westside hunters we are just like you and we want the same things!

Now, I sure ain't called you any more names than a "wet-sider", if you take offense to that....I can't help it!
I ain't come out and said anything pointed directly at you, now have I?

Now, everytime I try and say something nice, you throw it back on me....now you tell me, how can a guy win against an attitude like that???

If you said something like "lets meet up and do some huntin', I just might go along with that..." , that would be better than having some kind of silly disagreement. If you have some anger issues, and need help getting 'em out, sure glad I could oblige 'ya. See, I can be there for 'ya, and you say us eastsiders don't have any feelings! LOL

You pretty much came right out and said you hated westsiders in my first post I asked and I'll ask again "what exactly do have to hate me for?" You never answered that. No anger here I've been trying all along to get you to see that were not that different than one another just because I live over here except I don't hate eastsiders! Oh and it doesn't bother me if you remember I called myself a wet-sider before you did!

You REALLY thought that was serious??? NOW THATS FUNNY!  :chuckle:
OK, OK, not meaning to have so much fun on your part....but ya just got to admit, thats some funny crap!  :P

alright, if we doesn't hate each other? Who can we hate?? .....just kidding, don't imagine thats what we need. Nope, don't hate anybody. But I will admit to helping several hunters out there. I know I live over here, and its a bit easier for me to do some scouting, although I ain't so good at hunting either, I just enjoy the hell out of it and try reeeal hard.

I start school again tomorrow night (teaching), so its gonna start getting hard for me to reply, but I've got to say, and my wife can verify this, I HAVE had a good laugh or two over this thread....hope others have enjoyed it too, but its been all in good fun. You can believe it any way you like, I have no problem with that. As I've said in other posts, possibly on other boards, it can be very difficult to read "feelings" on a thread. Even when sombody is getting a good chuckle.

And yes, I DO know a bit about the animosity over east/west, native Washin-tonians and kalifornians...I also know quite a few good shooters from California, I've shot against them at matches.
Good/Bad folks live everywhere, and whenever we lump everyone together, we get into troubled waters...part of life, we deal with it.

Can we agree on eveything...naw, shouldn't have too. But I imagine that we can agree on several political subjects, maybe some hunting topics also. Good deal.

Now please, don't think I'm showing signs of weekness, I'm not. Can't be, never have been. Too colorful of a background to be that, but this isn't a challenge either, just the friendly outstretching of the hand.

When I posted, I was thinking that everyone had the idea of what is thought, just thought I'd add some irony.
Look, you have folks from both sides here on this forum, didn't you ever think of what is thought? What you have heard? The reasons for same??? Irony, and funny as hell! Time to move on.......PM me if you'd like to carry this further, I won't get it till Saturday, most likely.

Well I was being a smart a$$ in my first response back to you and it seemed like you defended your comment so I guess that is why I kept on you and thought you were serious. I will agree that it's hard on line to tell if someone is kidding and you can't see their expression but that's why I was taking it with a grain of salt and decided to take the high road. Sorry if I miss read that, and part of me was just trying to get you a little riled up as well ... all in good fun of coarse!  ;) But oh well Thanks for clearing that up, Sounded like somewhat of an apology so I'll take it that way, and extend the same Take care!

Ya iceman I know I'm with ya ... I went back and read it all again and I know it's kinda hard to believe he didn't know what we were talking about ???? , but it's the closest thing to an apology were gonna get so I'll take it and quit :beatdeadhorse: you know?  But I'm glad he finally did admit in his last post that there are good and bad on both sides that's what I was trying to say all along!

I Iz back! Glad for Friday, and work+school is done for the week, although they have a big test coming in a couple of weeks.

Yea, it was an apology, in case you were taking me serious....I WAS having fun the entire time, and never took any of it serious. I even was laughing a couple of times, which made my wife come over and look. I even told her we were giving each other a hard time, but having fun.

Iceman, your killing me!  :tung:
