Hows your cdl 257 coming? Brass outta 7 mag hulls? Groups? How do ya like it? Later

It's coming along fine. I'm using norma .257 brass right now. I've only put 100 rounds through it with three diffrent powders, it seems to like 75gr. of Retumbo with the 115gr. berger VLD's molyed running at 3300fps. Groups about MOA, nothing real impressive but I've just started load work up. I shot up the last of the bergers I had yesterday and cant find any here in town so I might have to shelf the rifle until I get some bullets. The recoil is surprisingly light but shooting off a sand bag the muzzle jumps pretty good, no spotting hits through the scope. Another thing I didn't expect that BBL to heat up so fast, three shots and you cant touch it. I'm going up in the mountains next Sat. to shoot some rocks at long range, I was hoping to have this rifle ready to put in the rotation but it doesn't look like it will make it. So far I like the rifle well enough but it will take some time playing with it to really make my mind up. I've been taking some pictures and after I settle on a load and get the drop chart done/confirmed I'll do a post about it, starting with testing loads though useing turrets.

Cool, been waiting for the report. Should be able to get the 115 around 3400? though not a fan of em, I gotta try some 80 TTSX's, look real good on paper for a 500-600 yard buck killer. You moly everything? Lotsa guys love it, lots hate it. Later

I only run moly in the 22-250 and 223, high use rifles. I hate cleaning rifles and moly seems to help. I'm giveing it a try in the 257

More on the Moly. I've been using it in my .223 and 22-250 for a few years. I can go over 1000 rounds between cleanings on these two rifles. With the light recoil and long range potential of the .257WBY I can see shooting it alot so I'm using moly in it too. I'm not sure if I'll see 3400fps out of the 115's but it will be close.

I got out early this morning and it looks like load workup is done. 75 gr. of Retumbo and the molyed 115gr VLD for 3325FPS. Well under 1 MOA for three shot groups. I zeroed the turrets at 100 yards, I've only shot it out to 300 yards so far. I still have to stretch it out and make up a good drop chart but at least I decided on a load before deer season. So far I like this rifle, enough that it will probably make it into the line up this year.

I shot my 257 this weekend for the first time and was surprised at the muzzle jump. unfortunately i either have a scope issue or 2 dudes couldn't get my gun boresighted enough to put it on paper. i ran out of time....
to be continued i guess.

Nice. Picked that 240 Ultra light. Threw a 3-9 Ziess on her, Talleys, fed it factory 85 tsx's, sub moa, little faster than advertised. Handy little setup, gonna get it bloody over in Montucky and Idaho in a few months. Hopefully it kills as good as it packs/shoulders. Thats it on the top, followed by my 257, and 300 Roy. Love the fit of those Weatherby's..

Good looking irons. Hows that stock shape work out for you from a rest? Off hand I can realy like a stock with that much drop at the heel but I dont do so well with them laying over a pack or in the sand bags.
