I've got to tell the neighbor to quit feeding the squirrels! This won't end well if we don't keep a clean camp.

Hey! He's trying to earn his keep. Looks like he's about ready to help you put out the sprinklers. :)
-
All those feeders are making him thirsty.
-
oh that is not good, hopefully you scared him off and he don't come back
-
It's still here, I was shooting my bow later and could here him walking around in the wood. Besides putting all the garbage away and not feeding the birds or squirrels what would you suggest? The dog keeps it at bay. I thought about a paintball gun :dunno: I know it's not a good situation.
-
I would suggest waiting a few more weeks til' August 1st. On the 1st I'd slip an arrow into him, thus curing the problem.
-
Call the game dept and they can trap and relocate him.

:chuckle:
Looks like he's about 75 lbs? A good size to eat and yes he will continue to cause trouble...
..at least you can get a seccond tag. Need help on Aug 3?? :EAT:
save the public official the trouble!
-
I've done that in the past. They trapped one and hard released it in my back yard. That may be an option if it really truly becomes a trouble maker. The first thing they will say is put your garbage away and quit feeding the birds and squirrels. Then when Aug 1st comes around other options are available, but trapping isn't one of them. It's a young one, hopefully when the berries get ripe it will be gone. I've had lot's of offers for help with the problem :chuckle:

Kinda odd so many folks would be eager to kill a little yearling like this, if that is what is meant by "offers of help".
-
Don't let it break your heart Tom, This is a problem bear, or maybe you want it around your grandchildren?

:yeah: :archer:
-
paint ball...mace...aug 1st arrow, :dunno:
I'd pop him if I could on my property...what a drag out...right in the back yard, small weight.
-
:EAT: :chuckle: I would probably call WDFW and have them deal with it. They need to see all the bears that are out there anyways. They seem to think there are not that many. At least that is what they will tell us when they try to take our season away next year.
-
The trap is set!

He had his head in there a few minutes ago. We will get him tonight and do a hard release tomorrow. That's the plan anyways. He may have other ideas.
-
take lots of pics.
-
What is a "hard release" ???
-
A hard release is when they release them right where they catch them. We will wheel the trap into a position so it can see the house, then they will raise the gate. As the bear emerges they shoot it with bean bag loads out of shotguns, light off something like an M80, then turn Mishka the Bear dog on it. Hopefully it will get the idea this isn't a place it wants to be. They will tranquilize and ear tag it first.
-
Well that should be a fun thing to watch. :chuckle:

:chuckle: :chuckle: who dreams this psychological bull *censored* up?? :chuckle: :chuckle:
I read that...and LMFAO you got to be kidding???
how about just bring in a licensed bonded and ultimately a "good shot" hunter to take care of business?? .....no no, must waist taxpayer dollars!!!!! :bash:
-
I think their on the clock anyways BK. So you think they should just shoot them all? Who's money is going to pay for the license/bonded shooter :dunno: If someone shot you in the ass and sicked a dog on you you might think twice about returning. I could have waited 3 weeks and taken care of it myself but I didn't feel like shooting a 75 pounder and I want to let my kids and dog go out without worrying about it.
-
NO NO I don't thing you should shoot them all!! I just get a laugh out of the whole bean bag, dog , shotgun approach!! I mean, come on do you really thing you are going to scare this bear?? man that lil guy will be back in a day!! if I were to expel that kind of energy and time to catch him, why not drive up in to the mountains 50 miles away or so, and drop him off? (relocate)
as far as bringing in a shooter, that "will" happen once that bear starts becoming a threat!! remember bears are very intelligent animals, and once he's figured out "bean bags" don't kill!! let alone hurt :chuckle: he will lose his fear of man and gun
my :twocents:
-
I guess the way I'm looking at this one is that this is the bears one and only chance before it gets taken out for good. We'll see what happens. If it comes back I'll take care of it myself, legally of course.
-
Quite opposite BK Dave, I watched my F & G bud pound a couple Griz 2 year olds in similar fashion in Eagle River Ak, never returned that year. Those bean bags come out of a similar gun to the old M-79 (for all you older Military guys) in 38mm size though... They litterally knock the *censored* out of the bears with them. They didn't have the dogs like here, but what I saw worked for 350lb griz, I sure the 70lb blackie will feel it in the morning when he gets pounded.. And not want to return... Also the guys that worked for me in our Fish and Game section utilized same method for problem trash bears on Ft Richardson, something about getting thumped by a 2 lbs bean bag that kept them from returning.
On the flip side AK F & G released a collared blackie and tracked it and posted it over the internet several years ago, it actually swam across the Turnagin Arm from the Kenai Pennisula and was back in Anchorage garbage cans three days later, talk about a GPS system...
-
I'd like to see some statistics on the hard release concept. I've heard that it does work with many Bears. The younger the better is what I've heard. Still, I'd like to see the numbers of success. He's too little to kill. If there's a way to make him afraid of humans and not go for the easy food of bird feeders on the decks of homes, I'm all for it. One try, then relocation to a far away place where little Bears can grow up to be bigger Bears. We are encroaching on their habitat. Give the little guy a chance.
Photos, we want a slide show or video of the whole thing. Please....

-
Look an Eagle!!! (Swift kick in the junk)...
-
:yeah: :lol4:
-
After taking a look at the trap and getting spooked he didn't come back last night. He will eventually. He did leave a turd though :chuckle:
-
that commercial was nearly too much..... :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
Well it figures I had to leave overnight and after 4 days of nothing and the trap going to be pulled he jumped in there last night. They came and did the release before I got home :bash: Hopefully the neighbor got some good pictures and Yogi doesn't come back in August.
-
It turned out to be a sow, 125lbs. They ear tagged it and branded a number on it's gums then released it right here. Sorry I was gone so no pictures.
