Thanks guys.

This video spans two seasons and two states. The opening hunt may stir some controversy but hey its hunting... NO guarantees. RR also catalogs my latest addition to the ASP team, my father. Like with all the ASP videos we show all aspects of the hunt, yes even missed shots... I hope I,ve captured some of my passion for hunting Roosevelt's and look forward to your comments.

The video was really good.  We'd been waiting for it and headed to XXX when it first came out.  The controversy you're referring to was actually refreshingly honest.  It spawned soulful admissions from all present and discussions on how some people have modified their techniques due to lessons learned in the field.  Thanks for another heart pounding Roosevelt video!

Great video as always. I was going to pick mine up this weekend up at XXX but they had them at Archery World when I was there so I had to get it :)

Can't wait till season rolls around, looking forward to elk college this weekend also to really stoke the fire to get hunting.

We picked this DVD up from Luck Shot on Saturday after the 3D shoot.  The front says 14 hunts. Went home and popped it in the dvd player.  After I rewatched the video I realized this is hunting and it is extremley hard to capture western washington Roosevelts on film.  Kudos to you guys and wish you the best of luck in the future.

Please No Flaming, I am going to give you my honest review.  I know that there are people on here that have financial intrest in this dvd so I will try and keep it professional.

We picked this DVD up from Luck Shot on Saturday after the 3D shoot.  The front says 14 hunts. Went home and popped it in the dvd player.  My buddy picked it up so what I am writing below is what I remember.

I believe there are only 2 kills actually captured on film, there is also a hunt were you are able to see the shooter and not the elk.  There was also a wounded bull which was a monster.  The big bull on the cover was not captured on film, because the hunter was hunting solo.

One of the kill shots is a hard quartering torwards shot.  You can call it whatever you want but I have a hard time chalking stuff like that up to honesty.

Many of the hunts show a bull or let you listen to a bull, then there is a interview stating that the wind swirled.  I understand that this happens all the time, and it is hunting but I do not expect to sit down and watch that 10 times.

I give you guys credit for going out there and doing it and getting good footage, but I guess it just didn't meet my expectations for $16.00.

Sounds like an honest opinion.

I think Will Primos gave a good testimony a couple years ago about how hard it was to hunt and film roosevelts.  You got to wonder why there aren't more videos of Roosevelt hunting?  I had contemplated getting a small video camera and giving it a try this year in the Toutle.  I think I will stick with just carrying the bow  ;)  Nice work Shannon!  Looks like 2007 was a tough year, glad to see the good times and the bad! I think we all can relate to losing a animal, I felt the guys pain! I am glad you left that on the film, that is hunting (bow hunting).

Although opinions are just that.  I think any footage of Roosevelt hunting is great to see.  Nice to hear the bulls interact in the wild.  Regardless of the kill shots, we can all learn a little from the footage and $16 is a cheap price to pay to hear some live action.....

Well worth the money to me.......

Shannon,

Your dad still have hounds?  I used the bird dog for him and the others in the younger years...  Miss those days, Dad's (Bob Archer) last dog finally passed away this year.

Keep up the good work with the videos!

Yep, that's him...  I was talking to him about the video and mentioned you had your dad in it..  After all the years of killing elk with the rifle and smokepole I gave the archery a run for the money last year and managed a nice 5x5 opening day on my own.  Gonna run the video camera a little this year as well with the buddies, ironically I had it out on the counter this morning charging it to check the battery life....  I'm going to check into a helmet cam to wear as the shooter, we'll see how that turns out!

Hopefully the animals will cooperate again this year...  Got lots of good pics on the trail cameras so far and got one big boy I'd love to get a shot at...  !

I just got my copy in the mail on Monday and watched it.  Yet another great asp video.  One thing I missed from the newest video was the date each sequence happened.  It is nice to see what days they started to rut more or when they were responsive.

Hopefully I don't have to wait 2 more years for another one...   ;)  The reality is you don't need tons of kills to make the video.  Showing the calling sequences and failures is what is fun.  The days that nothing calls and comes in.  It doesn't have to be like a Primos video where they bugle and a bull comes running in and they have 20 kill shots every video.   Seems like the 2005 and 2006 videos were more about the hunt and less the kill setup/sequence.  Great job though Shannon.  It's the best set of videos out there for us wetside hunters.  :twocents:

Well said...  That first call in on this new video speaks a 1000 words...  It was great to watch that bull come in completely quiet!  We had one bust us last year when we were sitting around bs'ing on a way up to set up our spike camp.  We sat for a bit and bugled a few times and as we got up the bull was 45-50 yards below us and busted out of there, I plan to spend some more time planted in one spot calling when I know the elk are around next year....

Boy, after these comments, I need to get back to Archery World to pick up a copy. I have the last copy and I was quite pleased with it. I still pop it in now and then. By the way Shannon, thanks for the  tips and stories you and Glen presented at the seminar. Being fairly new to elk hunting I try to pick up any info I can.

Over all good video, I do like the first two better though. I think the video quality is not as good as the others. Most of the shots were out of focus and blurry. I didn't like how they bounced back and forth between Oregon and Washington, 2007 and 2008. Besides that, good stuff like always, real life hunting! A few of those bulls were bigger than your typical SW washington bull. My copy came in on Friday and I watched it on the lap top at the hotel room the night before me and the wife went on a little scouting trip :IBCOOL:

I try to keep them in order. (As the season progresses).
Would you like to see the Oregon hunts grouped?

As for the focus. This drives me crazy as well... when I'm filiming and calling I have to use auto focus since I am not able to burry my head behind the camera.

So far I have: Put the dates back in, Group by state, Better focus. (More kills and bigger bulls... always on the list)

How many would be interested in a video view and discussion?

Shannon, impo yes,I would love to see the season grouped by state and year. I also feel your pain on the focus factor, it is one of the hardest parts of filming and also drives me nuts with all the branches and grass that get in the way. I thought this video's bulls where bigger than the previous years general season bulls, that is what most of us are hunting down there anyways, for me it brings a "real feel" that the viewer can relate to. What camera are you using, I am working my way up to the pro style camera's I bought a Sony SR12 HD 120 GB last season and like it a lot better than the $200 cam I had before.

Sony VX2100 at the moment. tossing around the idea of an HD just dont know if its worth it for a hunting camera. Im also a little scared of the Hard drive cameras, would hate to delete footage for the chance at more and if the camera was damaged, data recovery would be a chore..

I think HD would be great.  You know you have to get there eventually so you might as well start now.  Also, some of the footage would help in HD quality.  I don't mind the blurry video and issues because it means you are out there and really hunting public land.  Stuff happens and if you want it perfect you basically have to be on a ranch or in a treestand.  No thanks.

I think stick with what works.  2005 was a great video as well as 2006.  That was grouped in state I think and we got to see the thing through the season from start to finish.  More kill shots and bigger bulls would be good like you stated, but you really don't need it like I said.  Just like hunting, many of us like the journey, not just the kill shot.

I film my hunts with a hard drive camera, and I would change if I bought another camera.  I had 15 minutes of video of an Idaho state archery record bull up to, and including, the missed shot at 40 yards and the call back in at 10 yards with no shot.  It was tremendous footage that I'll probably never get again.  We watched it in camp over and over.  The next day the camera came unscrewed off the tripod on the 4 wheeler, and my buddy's 4 wheeler ran over it.  There was no chance of saving the footage as JVC had to completely replace the hard drive and optics to fix it.  Yeah, I should have backed it up in camp that night (I had my laptop and blank DVD's just for that), but the simple fact is that I didn't.  Now the hunting world won't get to share that footage, and it really was dang good footage.  :'(  Plus, I had no camera to record the rest of the hunts that year; we took a couple bulls that could have been pretty easy footage.

I know forensic computer specialists that could have gotten the data off the hard drive.  You can pay to have this done as well.  They essentially repair and and remove the data.  Interesting stuff really.

That's what scares me Toodd_ID.. with my current setup, as soon as the call-in is over I swap tapes..lock the call-in tape and store it in the pack... I go through alot of tapes through a season but thats nothing compared to losing footage. thanks Todd I'll stick with Mini DV...

nwhunter- I agree "git-r-done".... What would be better is if I could get drawn... first for the multi...then the blues...

That is a good point but how many tapes at the end of the day do have in your pack? I use to think this way until my dad drew a toutle tag and we got on a bull, as we got him to come in at 23 yards the camera started to beep and then the screen said end of tape, what a hopeless feeling that was. We didn't have time to change out a tape. This will never happen with a 120 gigs of memory. I have had 5 of my son's football games and a whole season of scouting and hunting and still had a 100 gigs to spare.

The only thing about HD is the files are huge and you have to have a computer good enough to handle it. I had to go out and upgrade the computer as well but man, what a difference.

BTW,if a camera gets ran over by an atv it doesn't matter if it is a hard drive or a mini dv,it gonna be toast!
