Has anyone had any luck, or seen bear sign in the upper Wynoochee Valley, above Wynoochee Lake?
-
I have picked a lot of blueberries up there, should be a bear or two......
-
there are bear's there. Rick
-
I have heard good things about that area.
-
There's bear up there for sure. I used to hunt quite a bit up past the old grisdale camp. If you head back towards Spider lake, there's some good country. Once you get up high there are some really nice berry patches. It's steep country but there in there, there's also some monster blacktails running around those hills.

started scouting around Wynoochie lake and a little SE of the lake this year. Haven't seen to much for bear sign, but like everybody else; I'm sure there in there...Good luck man. I will let you know if I see anything too..

Theres a few bear in the, it got super crowded and I quit hunting it about 5 years ago. Used to be my goto area. Expect large numbers of people opening weekend.

I hunted deer there last year and saw a bit of bear sign, there were a lot of people during deer season.
-
Our friend went picking berries up there and a he jumped a huge black bear. stood up on his haunches and then our friend pulled a pistol on him. the bear got down and walked away. He said he was kinda spooked the rest of the day.

Like everybody else stated, there is a lot of pressure up there. If you get off of the roads and do some hiking, you can get into areas where people cant drive. There are still a few good spots up there. There is also a guy that is "supposedly" illegally guiding bear hunts up there. I have ran into him and he is an absolute jerk. But I would wait until a little later in season to start hunting up there ue to the pressure.

It used to be a fairly quiet area with maybe a guy or 2 in the at any given time............ UNTIL fishing and hunting news did an article and printed a map several years ago. The next weekend I counted something like 22 trucks. :bash: I haven't been back very many times since.

Is archery season busy too?

My boss said the same thing. He and his father used to be up there all alone until the maps and article came out. Apparently the article told them exactly where to go including road numbers. :bash:

Ouch....That sucks!!

Thanks for all of the info, A little disappointing, but expected. The biggest key is that there are animals there. Now the biggest challege will be finding where people wont go (too much work to get there). I am headed up to scout there on Tuesday we will see what I find. Have a decent spot picked out off of Topo's and Satalite Images that is difficult to get to. Want to see what tracks and sign are there.

good place to get a big one, but i dont think theres a ton in there :twocents:
havnt ever seen guys running hounds in there, but ive only been goin there for bout 4 years now :dunno:

i seen a bunch of young guy's from Humptulip's area. bear. several year's ago. i use to run into the Hound guy's cougar calling Happened to often. would see buddy medley's dog's running the road's buddy passed away. have way better place's now. still run into a few Hound Hunter's but i just go behind gate's. clearwater is terrible with hound's. calling cougar. i see them i get out of there dont need trouble..i know a killer bowl with mass blueberry's. alway's bear's. but rather not say were. Rick

same thing happened to us with our deer camp, pissed me off quite a bit. I miss that mag though

Been there couple times this year scouting/camping. A ton of poeple in the mountains. I got off on foot and seen decent sign and one Bear. I have never seen that many people up so high this time of the year though. I would have thought it was opening day.

I've been going up to that area for years, and except for seeing some elk during deer season, and deer during elk season...I don't see much. I've seen one small bear run across the road back in 07. And, in 06 I ran across some scat over near the upper Hump.
I used to go because I never saw anyone and thought it was safe, not because the amount of game...but now that the crowds are there, I've found better pastures.
