I've been wanting to get to Wyoming or Montana for pronghorns for a long time but all my buds bail on me when it's time to apply for the tags. I don't want to go on a DIY hunt that far away all alone as I don't know where to even start so I bit the bullet and decided to do a 3 day hunt with a guide. If I tag early, we chase yotes :rockin: and / or shoot P-dogs :mgun: This will be a real change for me I've never been on a guided hunt and not sure what to expect but I sure am excited. I feel very awkward being spoiled and letting everyone else do all the work but thats what I'm paying for I guess. WOOHOO!!!!

Congrats! 8) Should be a fun hunt.
-
DIY for me in the Buffalo area, been there done that for the last couple of years, you will have a blast, lots of game and plenty of public land. Congrats and enjoy.
-
Gutpile, do you have to choose a unit for them in Wyoming?
-
i'll speak for him and say yes you do...
the more public land in the units the lower the odds of drawing...there are units with 100% odds but they are mostly comprised of private land.

Not sure exactly how it works but I guess it's a landowner tag or something of the sort.
-
have a blast, where at? I went out of wamsutter..lotta sagehens also what gun ya taken??I used a 30-06 with a 125 grain corelokt.folded him right up...be careful on the drive down, long haul

It's out of Buffalo. I'll be shooting my Remmy CDL Limited edition .260. Not sure of the load, I havent worked one up yet. I'll be bringing my 220 swift and .223 for yote busting and P-dogs. Need to get loading. I have about 300 rounds for the AR and 200 or so for the swift. From what I hear 1000 rounds isn't uncommon.
Here's the .260.Havent scoped it yet. Bought it back in Feb but work got busy so I havent had a chance to fiddle with it.

You Dog! Wish I was going. :'(
I think you should take that 6.5-06. The possibilities of long range shots are high.
When are you going?
-
Where you been mh? Its not a 65 06 its a swede. Its too heavy for that trip but i may use it for the p dogs. Going the end of oct.
-
There are thousands of them in the Buffalo area. M-Ray and I will be just north of there in November, when will you be down there?
-
I'll be going the 29th, 30th, and 31st. Then I'll be headed down to the blues. WOOHOO!!! I love fall.

-
Heck yeah I'll be there. Gotta get me some of that fine spaghetti!! :EAT: Probably come down mid week though. Work will dictate that.

Hi,
We're going to hunt Unit 30 (if I recall correctly) , which is near Casper during mid October for Pronghorns. Good luck on your trip. Hope to see a report. Will report on ours when we get back. We both have buck and doe tags. Looking forward to a nice trip myself. Can't wait.

I'm pretty stoked. Thinking about buying a doe tag as well. Wish I could find some people to apply with that wouldn't bail on me. I'd really rather do a DIY with friends but this really will be fun too. The aspect of letting somebody else work there ass off for me is intriguing.
-
all I can say is don't shoot the first one you see, you'll see plenty. Pick out a decent buck and have fun!

Well now that you've done your homework I'll start putting in with you. But not until 2011, I'm going Elk hunting in Idaho next year.
-
Ill go with ya next year if your looking,I went with 5 people last time it was a blast
-
MH - Rasbo, we'll have to start applying. Far out!!!
MH - Idaho? Elk? Need another gun? Thats another thing I've wanted to do. Hmmmmmm. We'll have to talk this fall.

Back in 03' we hunted Deer and Antelope in Buffalo Wy. We killed 5 antelope by 10am and 3 mule deer bucks by days end. All this was DIY. You should not have any problem tagging out. Just remember that Antelope will look further away than they really are, trust your rangefinder if you are using one. People who are not used to looking at speedgoats tend to think they are farther away than they really are. Have fun and get some doe tags if they are availiable, do the landowner a favor and fill your freezer.
-
Sounds like a blast! good luck

A DIY in that area will not be a problem, even though there is a great deal of private land. There really are thousands of goats in that area and most of the land owners are all too happy to have some of them removed. The lopes eat the same grasses as the cattle except they chew it off much closer to the dirt, too close for the cattle to be able to eat it and resulting in longer growing recovery time. For this reason a lot of land owners will give you access for lope hunting, even if they are not on block management lists.
Its a pretty long drive just for lopes, if I were going I would try for Montana lope tags as well, doe tags can be purchased over the counter for $50.00/ea. and its "on the way". There is a nice meat locker just off the highway in Buffalo so you wont have to worry about spoiling, the owner is pretty cool and doesn't charge an arm and a leg. Good luck and like EastWa said, don't shoot the first one you see.

Curious to what you stated about Montana tag for does, hmmmm... Were probably running 1-90 then cutting down through middle of Wyoming to Casper, might be a good ideal if the total license doesn't cost too much to grab a tag... I guess I can check on Montana's web site later on.
-
Curious to what you stated about Montana tag for does,
Give them a call, I know with a combo license I can purchase doe tags over the counter until they sell the quota, I still have to call them and buy mine :bash:

Good luck, I drew an antelope tag in unit 27. I'm heading over on the first of Oct. and am stoked, I've never antelope hunted before.
