I just left a friends house where we just finished scoreing these. I picked them up while helping a friend on a deer hunt last year. I was going to just list what we came up with but I thought I'd give you all something to do, What do you think they will score with the standard 40" spread credit for drops. Tmike and Huntnphool know what he scores what do the rest of you think?

And another clue if it helps I am 5'10 & 185 pounds

Just for fun the story on these is I saw the top three points of the left side from 3/4 of a mile accross a canyon and thought I was looking at a Mule deer horn. After a hike accross and dropping my rangefinder over a cliff I was amazed to find three Elk sheds and this matching set. Here is the third one in the pile.

alright mark, the photos are somewhat deceiving... But compared to mine and my dad's I would have to say they are about 360 ish... his thirds are weak... my dads were 17 and 3/4 and 17 and 5/8" long... pm me with what they r!
-
342? guessing out my ass here
-
363
-
That is a great find Mark, now if we can find that bull for you to hang a tag on you will have one hell of a story.
-
Ya we'll see about that Phool I'm not tellin where he is living just in case. ;) Also guy's I'm talking a Gross score here mostley ...I'm not much into the deduct part but when the time comes I will give both answers. I am one that kinda thinks if the animal grows it you should get credit for it!!!!
Here's another in case you need another angle.

354.....maybe 354 1/8....have been wrong one other time.....On a real note that is outta my arse also.....anxious to see what the numbers are....
-
I just want to know about your range finder.. Did it survive the fall or did you go after it? What type is it? Looking at picking up a new range finder and like the fact there is people doing durability tests out there. ;)
-
I'm gonna say high 350's. Great find for sure.
-
369 3/8
-
Sky,
Did it survive the fall
well It was the Bushnell yardage pro 600, I did hike after it and found it in pieces I put it back together and it still works allthough it was missing the battery door. I am sure I could order from bushnell. But I decided it was a good excuse to buy the leupold tbr anyway!
-
357. You should sell the range finder story to Bushnell for advertisement purposes. :chuckle:
-
Ya kinda funny now after looking back at it I was skirting the top of a cliff that went into a rock slide below and I was trying to figure out a way around it when it fell out of the case, it was one of those things that seems like it was happening in slow motion and seemed like it took forever to stop and ended up about 250 to 300 feet below me. And it was tumbling that entire distance on a rock slide not on grass or dirt. I saw black pieces flying and thought well that will never work again. So when I went after it I was only expecting to recover my litter from the mountainside instead of leaving it ... you know leave no trace, Anyway it works and now it is my back up with a little duck tape over the battery door it's as good as new!
-
Oh and just for all of you that have allready guessed I added my hieght and wieght to the original post in case that helps ... 5'10 & 185 lbs.
-
344???????
-
354.....maybe 354 1/8....have been wrong one other time.....On a real note that is outta my arse also
That's funny right there .. didn't catch that the first time through you should have put up a ;) or a :chuckle: or maybe even a  but I was about to call :bs: where did you get that extra 1/8th ?????
-
haha! doesn't make much sense addin an extra 1/8 in the picture when your already at a round number! I can't figure out where to add it?! 8)
-
That's the joke I think he's kidding ;)
-
haha I know! too bad those things weren't on the skull and in your hand! that would be sweet!
-
I am going to gues 349, but I tend to be a conservative *censored* and elk are my weakest animal.
-
M-ray I thought the 354 1/8 guess was someone we know :) There are some really good guesses here. I also tried the drop the range finder off the cliff trick and my yardage pro held up. Luckily it stayed in the case.
-
tmike you know better than that ;) are you trying to throw these guys off? besides our guy doesn't live in sedro woolley, but he may have used a woolley bugger on the Yak before!
-
Do we get to find out today?
-
I second Bone's question, lets hear the tale of the tape.
-
Do we get to find out today?
I was waiting for someone to ask ... do you want to know now????
I gotta go and I am a bit disgusted with another issue so I may not be posting for awhile but I will tell you the eye guards come in at 17 & 17 5/8 and the seconds are 20 3/8!
-
346
-
My first thought was about 360
-
I think that 40" inside is a bit cheesey.... :chuckle:
-
think that 40" inside is a bit cheesey
I know but I'm just going by what everyone says is the standard for drops. I layed it out as best I could so it looked as natural as it would on the animal and I came up with 48" so I loose 8" right off the top just because they are sheds.
-
I know but I'm just going by what everyone says is the standard for drops
haha I know I am just giving you a hard time!
Does that 40" go for like say a small set of 4 or 5 point sheds as well?? Because we all know they are lucky to make 30 - 35" inside??
-
I dont know I didn't even know how to score very well that's why I was at a friends house who knows how to score so I could get it right. I am just going by what he said was the standard. maybe someone else out there could tell us. :hello:
-
Ah Yeah I want to know........
-
I have heard standard for inside measurement of a set of elk sheds is 40" as well. And back to the question, whats the score?
-
that 40" is standard - looked it up! anyways, it didn't say anything about a smaller set of horns?? although, who cares about measuring a set of 4 or 5 point horns?? haha unless its a huge 5 point it woulndn't make the book anyways?!
-
whats the score without a spread credit??
big bulls i've seen get a 42-45" spread credit.
-
haha I could tell ya but thats m-ray's spot because they are his sheds! :P
You are correct most big bulls have about 42-45" inside.. mine from this year is 42 and my dads is 45 haha so its kinda funny you threw out those numbers!
-
Ok guys have you had enough fun with this? I will tell you this one of you hit it on the nose, well within 5/8!
-
im ready. its been 2 days
-
342? guessing out my ass here
Well addicted your ass was close but sorry it's not you! :(
-
Well this was fun to hear what you guys thought and thanks for all that played sorry I didn't tell you sooner I was trying to give everyone a chance to see it and play along ... but it's been long enough and we have a winner! I will say you are all pretty darn close cause some of you would have been right in there had this been on a skull and able to credit 48" for the spread credit and some of you were right in there based on a net score with deductions But the rest were right on with the gross score based on the 40" credit and a gross score was what I asked for first so .................................................
P.S I gotta eat dinner will post the score right after I'm done!
-
345, lets hear it whats he gross!
-
Cograts to 8) Boneaddict 8) you nailed it right on the head ... well within 5/8 anyway!
(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi241.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff122%2Fmray30%2FDSCN2107.jpg&hash=0788c5eb67f7f25bc3aee9b909937ad219b1ecc7)
Stats:
349 5/8 gross -with 40" drop spread credit
15 5/8 deducts
334 net
357 pushing 360
as it would be naturally on the animal with a 48" spread credit
Like I said originally I am more on the side with gross scores I am a believer that if the animal grows it, breaks it, bends it or loses it ...it is what it is you and the animal should get the credit for it! so he is a solid 350 class bull that I hope is still roaming around out there for somebody!
-
Good job bearhunter you were close too! :) and right under the wire ;)
-
man I knew I was close! haha why couldn't those things be attached! :bash:
atleast I know what they look like on the hoof!
can't wait to see those things in person someday!
-
haha, you guys sure took my 1/8 inch joke pretty serious....lol :IBCOOL: i was just messing with ya. I have no idea on how to measure a rack and was just being a smartass with the extra 1/8 inch....nice sheds and this was a fun post....thanks for sharing..Justin
-
haha, you guys sure took my 1/8 inch joke pretty serious....lol
Nah I was joking too! but I did miss it the first time through when I read it then when i caught the part where you have only been wrong once I LMAO :chuckle:
-
BTW Bone you said Elk were your weakest animal to score MMM....what do you nail Deer right on the 1/8th?
-
BTW Bone you said Elk were your weakest animal to score MMM....what do you nail Deer right on the 1/8th?
1 time i saw bone miss a deer's score by 6"
:dunno:
:chuckle:
-
That is one big set of sheds. Huge!
What are you planning on doing with them? Keep them around to look at and decorate the home with?
-
Michelle, I am going to get them scored officially ... the minimum for one side shed in the book is 125" these are 155 4/8 and 154 1/8 so they easily make it. Then I am going to rub them back out to look natural since they are bleached by the weather and last my buddie has a cape from Colorado and I'll have it mounted. I think it is really cool and I want to see it on a mount.
-
Oh and that third horn I found, I will be scoring that tonite. Let's just say it may not have as strong of 1's and 2's as the matching pair but it has a longer main beam and is almost as heavy as the big boy so I bet it's going to make the 125" minimum easy too!
-
I was just looking at the pics again and allthough it shows the length well the pics do no justice for it's mass. It has to be seen ... it is just huge up high between the 4ths and 5ths.
-
Thats cool. I'd like to see them get mounted. Those are some realy nice looking sheds. Where did you find them again?
-
Michelle, Check your PM
-
I didn't get a PM!
-
Just finished scoring the third shed and it scores 141 2/8! So assuming that the other side would be close and adding a 40" spread credit we are looking at one side of a 322 2/8" bull but I will say when looking at it it looks to be as wide if not wider than the match set so it could gain another 8-10" if on the hoof so maybe a 330 class bull? :dunno: Sure wished I could have found the other side to this one too!

I'm glad I was right on. Maybe I'll finally get some credit around here for knowing antlers. :) My name IS BONEADDICT for the simple reason I love them bones. Fun contest Mray. That set will look good on a mount thats for sure.
-
Bone, well done once again I'm glad you liked it!
-
thats a hell of a shed too! maybe we need to go find some sheds this year??!! haha ;)
-
Checked the Washington big game records and I was mistaken it's 135" per side minimum ... oh well they both still make it!
-
Thats a tough one!!! He does have week thirds. OK I.m out on a limb. 365
-
Slider,
Sorry I didn't see you post! go back to page 3 the score was allready revealed :)
