I always show reverance by thanking the animal for giving me life whenever I harvest an animal.  I have a quiet moment.

Later back at deer camp I have a scotch with my hunting party.

My ritual usually starts with me undressing next to the animal while it is still fresh. Then I reach in my wallet for one of those paper protection things. I place it on the animal and then I give it one of the most penetrating hand jobs you can imagine. OK that is enough, I prepare to tag and gut it.

Ice cold beer after the game is dealt with.

Liver and onions for dinner that night.  :EAT:

Baked stuffed Heart as a treat before dinner the next night or so....more beer.

Thank god for a successful hunt and being allowed to enjoy the bounty.

Take a few pictures and get to work.  Either gutting and quartering or gutting and dragging.

I always have a quiet moment of thanks, for the animal that is gave its life for me to eat, and for making a good clean kill.

Then I usually start looking around and cussing, when I realize I am deep in a canyon, and the nearest road is a mile straight up, or 3 miles the way I came.   :bash:   :chuckle:

A party I used to hunt with makes a little cross at the kill sight, by poking a small limb in the ground, and then using the dick and balls to lash another small limb (the cross member) in place. Kinda humourous when you see one of their gutpiles...

We used to have a cross hanging on the side of the logging road at our camp in Grays Harbor that we would hang all our animals nuts on.  Back in the 80's there were pictures of it in the paper and they were saying it was cult activity.  We got a good laugh out of that. :chuckle:

We generally dry out the testicles then glue little eyes to them kinda like a weeble. Grandma takes them to bingo for good luck. We always save the srote for my aunt. She loves stitching little coin purses out of them and sells them at the farmers market. The night of the kill, we pass around a bottle of Black Velvet until its gone.  The first person to pass on taking a swig has to eat a raw eyeball. Its also custom, the first person to pass out finds a windpipe in their sleeping bag in the morning. Just little things like that, I guess you can call it more of a tradition than a ritual. By the way, everything I just stated is complete BS.

I usually perform a yearly ceremony where I pull out my tag, and try to cut out the tiny little notches.  It is at this time that I realize that I've once again grabbed the wrong knife and the one I have can barely cut paper. I proceed to the point of remembering that the tags not longer come with a string.  I remember years ago they did and give my self a bad time for not remembering one.  Finally I get down to gutting the deer.  I really don't do much in the field except remove the guts, and the gut going through the pelvis to get rid of contaminates.  Sometimes I'll go for the lungs if it is real hot.  Hopefully by that time my partners are there to help haul it out.  Thought about throwing the pos knife as far as i can but will probably need it next year.  Gotta get with rainshadow. :whoo:

I cry because I just hurt "bambi" Then my dad or grandfather beats me til I stop crying. Then they always dress me up in stupid old fashioned hunting costumes and make me take really embarassing pictures with the deer while they drink TONS of whiskey and laugh.

over here depending on where your at there are different rituals. wherever you are at there is the strong custom of the shooters branch and the lieser bitzen(last bite). for the last bite (only male animals) you place the animal on it's right side and place a branch in the animals mouth pointing from left to right.  then for the shooters branch the person who owns the land or is hosting the hunt will take a branch(small branch for a good shot and a huge branch if you screwed up so everyone will know) and dip it in the blood from the wound from the animal. then the branch is either passed over a knife or a hat to the shooter who then wheres the branch on the right side of their hat the rest of the evening.

Where i shot my first boar the tradition for your first pig is to have blood stripes painted on your face like an indian.

in my unkles hunting party the tradition for your first elk is to get slapped in the neck with the toungue whil your not looking.

Leviticus 17:10-16

10 As for any man of the house of Israel (Jehovah Gods chosen People) or some alien resident who is residingas an alien in your midst who eats any sort of blood, I shall certainly set my face against the soul that is eating the blood, and I shall indeed cut him off from among his people. 11 For the soul of the fleshis in the blood, and I myself have put it upon the altar for you to make atonement for your souls, because it is the blood that makes atonement by the soul [in it]. 12 That is why I have said to the sons of Israel: no soulof you must eat blood and no alien resident who is residing as an alien resident in your midst should eat blood.
13 as for any man of the sons of Israel or some alien resident who is residing as an alien in your midst who in hunting catches a wild beastor a fowl that may be eaten, he must in that case pour its blood out and cover it with dust. 14 For the soul of every sort of flesh is its blood by the soul in it.

we all know that Jesus human sacrifice did away with the Law Covenant of Moses. So now only by putting faith in Jesus and following his teachings can we gain Jehovah Gods favor and forgivness for our sinful state.

So we then have to look to the Christian Greek Scriptures to find the answer on blood.
Acts 15:20 and 29
20 to write them to abstain from things pulluted by idols and from fornication and from things strangled and from blood .for from ancient times Moses has had in city after city those who preach him..........
29  ...keep abstaining from blood.....if you carefully keep yourselves from these things you will prosper. Good health to you.

If we are a Christian and have put faith in Jesus christ as the Propitiatory sacrife for our sins we must abstain from blood

I usually realize that I am by myself..... Pull my cell phone out "no service".....swear a lot.  check cell phone again.....swear some more.  Tag and Gut animal, skin.  Check cell phone again..... swear some more.....   High five left hand with right hand......  Start packing.... Get first trip to truck..... Check cell phone again.....swear some more.....Repeat first pack trip a few more times depending on size of animal....

Get back to truck well after dark - call friends while driving down the road and call them names for not going with me that day.  Guilt trip them because they missed great hunt... But in reality, very tired from packing by myself and pissed that they weren't there to help.  Make them comeover to help hang the animal.

Explain to wife why I got home so late, and called every friend on my phone, and didn't bother to call her.  Drink beer for as long as I can without falling asleep.  Thank God and lucky stars for day's bounty

I take a moment to replay 'what I did right' then I give thanks.

Over the years I have been alone more often than not, or at least without immediate help, so I form a plan to get most of the meat back to camp/truck. Some plans are better than others. I really don't know why it took so long for me to buy a Deer cart! Hunting partners have assisted with probably half the animals I've ever harvested. So yeah, I've cursed a few times pulling my back getting an animal out.
