Well my scope on my 338 wont hold zero anymore. Im lookin to get a new one an only have $200 to spend. I have looked at the bushnell banner 6-18x50 an its pretty clear. My other bushnell has taken a beating with out a problem. Any one know if it will hold up to a 338 win? Bear opens soon an its my only rifle.

I would say vortex, ask elknut!
-
I have looked at them but they are over my limit local. i will have to ask when i get to a real comp
-
I had that banner on a 22-250 a few years ago and I was not happy with it. Not clear past 10X or so. I was trying to save some money. Just cost me more in the long run cause I wasted that $100 and then bought a new scope. Should have just saved and bought better glass. :twocents:
Look at Leupold VX-i. About $229. Cant beat their warranty.

elknut1 will sell you a vortex diamondback 4-12x40 for i think just a touch under 200 bones. pm him and ask him. i've got mine on my 300wm so far so good.

Check out the Elite 3200... it may be close to the price your budget too.

Well I should be ordering one on monday. I looked though the 4-12 vortex diamond local an it had a blue ring on the out side edge an so did the viper :dunno: I didnt notice it on the crossfire. I looked though a pentax an it was pretty nice, konus seemd to be right there too. I havent found a leupold, bushnell 3200, or nikon to look though yet .

Check out ebay.com
Should be able to buy a used Leupold Vari-X II 3 -9 x 40mm for $200....
No worries then

Be carefull with the Pentax... the eye relief is pretty short (like under 3.5")... that my cause a problem on a .338... not with the optics, but with your face.

I picked up a 3-9x50 3200 Elite with the Firefly reticle for 200 bucks shipped last year on ebay. It was brand new, never opened. If I can find another, will be buying it for my deer rifle.
On the Vortex scope, can you get the BDC reticle tuned for your caliber and load? or is it sight in, then shoot at the next line to see where it hits, etc...

wierd. i have 2 and neither of them have a blue ring.

The old scope had 3 in eye relief an i never got my self but i would like 3.5 that the pentax an otheres offer. Im not sure what the deal was with the vortex, every other thing i have looked at of theres was great?
-
Agreed...pentax/Burris is your best option in that price range.
The only thing I don't like about my Burris FFII is the eyepiece rotates when you change power..only a problem if you use Butler Creek lensecovers.
Do not buy a VX-1...your getting lame glass, and friction adjustments.
Leupold should be ashamed of those.
Nikon Team Primos for $199 is the best deal going.
Re blue ring...were you inside and under flourescent lights? Shouldn't be there.....

I'll say it one more time

im look still but im thinking the pentax. im going to go look at the vortexs again at a diff place. i was out side when i noticed the blue , couldnt see it inside
-
That Pentax is a great deal for $159. On a cheaper scope like that I'd stay with the lower power (3-9x)
-
Well I got a pentax with the ballistic plex, I looked at a lot of glass and it seems to be one of the top in the price rang. Should be here next week and i should have it on an sighted in before bear season.
