What do you have. How about a story to go with it and a pic. What is the current value? I'll go first.
I purchased this Rifle and Scope new in about 1980? It's a Weatherby Mark XXII. It also has a Weatherby 4x50 Scope that was an option at the time. It has a selector lever to shoot in single fire or semi-auto. Current value Cabelas and Gunbroker rifle only $600.00-$800.00. There is currently a scope on Gunbroker for $325.00.

I have a Remington Model 8 in .35 caliber. It was my grandpas old deer slayer and my first big caliber rifle.. The serial number dates it to 1908. I took her to English Pit a few weeks ago and put a couple of boxes of ammo through her. She shoots great. I got some decent groupings at fifty yards using the peep scope, my son did better than me though.
As far as the value, I've done some checking on various sites. I have the standard model (no checkering or etching and it isn't the police model with the 20 round magazine) so she's worth about $400 - 500.

I love those rifles. Very nice!!
-
This is an octogon barrel .303 Savage.
My great, great uncle gave it to me for bringing him firewood all summer when I was 16. He bought it used in 1915.
Can't find any shells for it at a reasonable price now.
-
Those are freaking awesome.
-
My dad had a .303 savage in a takedown, it's a cool little round. Looks like a 30-30 with a longer neck. Great for shooting heavy cast bullets.
-
cant find my camera so ill post pics later. i have my grandfathers old Winchester model 53 in 25-20. he bought it brand new in 1926, the model it self is not particularly rare but my grandfather ordered it directly from the factory when he was about 16 and he ordered it in stainless steal. it has the original peep site still intact and it is in great condition. ive never had it appraised but at a gun show i was talking with a Winchester guru and at first he didnt believe the riffle was actually stainless steal. he looked it up in his Winchester bible (what he called it) and he could only find one reference in the whole book to that riffle being offered in stainless and you had to order it ,stainless steal wont hold a bluing and at the time they blued every riffle including this one. with out looking at the riffle he said i had a museum piece i haven't found any one to appraise it if you guys know somebody that would give me a honest appraisal and not try to low ball it in hopes of buying it (id never sell) id sure like to see what its worth. i also have a 1906 Calvary issue piece maker 44-40 in a hand made holster that i haven't been able to document it yet but the style points to a very famous holster maker in the gun fighter days of south Texas, probably can never really know its origins tho
-
i've got an old side by side ithaca 12 gauge that belonged to my great grandfather.
i haven't done the research on it and don't know what year it is or what it's worth but its in immaculate shape and it'll never go anywhere, so not too concerned on it's value. it has "smokeless powder only" engraved on the barrel. i'll post up some pics when i can.
-
Littlebuf. The Gun Blue Book rates a blued model 53 Winchester that is 90 percent(very good condition) at $1700.00. Add 25% for a takedown model. The deluxe model with fancy pistol grip checkered wood in 90% condition is $3,650.00. No metion of a SS Model? You could check with the Winchester Museum in Cody Wyoming. It's 55 dollars I think? And they would need the serial#. A buddy has an Old single six in Nickle. Non nickle about 300-350. The nickle model is $2000.00!!! So about 6 times the money!!! Condition will matter a lot thou. Good Luck
-
Jackelope, Give me the model# and I'll look it up for you.
-
i would say it's 90% the bluing is off because of the reason i mentioned in my post and is why Winchester didnt offer stainless models. i know its a special piece, its my most treasured riffle and it has nothing to do with monetary value
-
just found this on line, in all my searches this is the first one ive seen like mine, not sure of the year on this one and mine has the original peep site

Ive got a double barrel shot gun..Says remington co on it each piece has the serial number..doesnt say what gauge it is .but 12 gauge fits right..pat is oct 94 this is remingtons first hammerless shot gun,you had the choice of self unloading or mechanical unloading, this one is mechanical..the rib that runs down between the two barrels is broken, and a small piece of the stock is broke.would like to know how that came to be.

I have my dad's old Rem. 760 in .300 Sav. It has a 5 digit serial # that dates it to the 1st year of manufacture. I have refinished it, blue and wood, because it is a sentimental gun, not something worth a lot of money, as he shot the heck out of it, and killed a chit pot full of game.
-
Don't have a camera so can't post but, A B.S.A Martini action Australian Cadet Rifle,Re-chambered to .32-20, from .310. Sold my pre-'36 Savage .30-30 "Super Sporter". Various Mosin Nagants from 1896 on up.
-
Jackelope, Give me the model# and I'll look it up for you.
i'll do that later on tonight when i get home.
thanks, i appreciate it.

I bet that Tootsie Roll (forearm) rifle is a shooter! I love those pumps!
I have a 1955 760 Gamemaster .30-06 ADL (5 diamond forearm) that is brand new! Was sitting in a closet in Pennsylvania for 55 years! I put a new scope on it and it' my main deer rifle now.

Still shoots less than an inch group even with factory ammo. And it gets shot once a year, whether it needs it or not.. :chuckle: I also have my mom's gun, same as yours, except in .300 Sav. as well.
It has the old Weaver tip off scope mounts. They are pretty cool, if your scope fogs up, you just flip the scope and rings off to the side, and shoot iron sights.
-
My uncle has a '58 760 in 270 and i have seen him make some incredible shots. it has these weird quick detach scope mounts so you can take the scope off in the thick stuff put it in your pocket and then put it back on. He said they are leupold mounts that he bought in either '62 or '63 when he bought the leupold 2 x 7 that is still on the gun. i didn't think they would work but he even did it for me one day and that thing was still dialed after pulling it off and putting it back on.
-
ive got a mid 50's 760 also, need to put a scpoe on it tho. grandfather bought it for dad before he went to vietnam
-
got an old 1911 I tried selling awhile back

I'm under the impression that I'm owner #2
and my eventually dear slayer, current paper and can slayer is my .32 winny special I got from my mom, who got from her brother, who got from his brother, who got from his dad and I believe he got it from his dad.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/uncoolperson/3001516930/
(the one on the right)
For some reason these two outshoot any of my newer guns (atleast when I shoot them).

I don't own anything too valuable, but I have some good quality older firearms.
A 1927 Model 12 Winchester in 16 gauge. A Beretta Golden Snipe o/u in 20 gauge. A Belgium Browning A5 light twelve. A Belgium made Browning 30-06 lightweight with a Mauser action. A Belgium Browning .22 semi auto. An ugly stepchild 7mm, Winchester 100 in .284.
I need to get some photos of these and my lucky fishing lure to share on here. :bash:
-
We need Pics!!! :)
-
I forgot to post about the Remington Model 11 I have too. It was built in 1928. 12 gauge, full choke, semi auto. No cracks in the stock either. It's fun to shoot and groups nicely too.

Damn. Does it fit in a safe?

Not any pistols yet.... So here's one
My dad gave this to me about 20 years ago. There is no model number on it... I contacted Smith & Wesson to ask them about it and gave them the serial number. They told me it was a prototype gun. .357 magnum on a 44 frame. Looks similar to the model 27 and 28. There is an S before the serial number. Apparently that means something but I can't remember.
-
I have a bolt action 410 - J.C. Higgins - Model 101.25 - Sears, Roebuck & Company. It was my dad's and my uncles. My grandpa cut down the stock to better fit the kids. I killed my first phesant with that gun. It's about time to pass it on to my cousin for his kids.

Thanks Slider. Mine probably wouldn't get that much, but I take good care of it. It has got to have at least a 100,000 rounds through it. It was great to learn on for me since they are so small. I love that little gun and can't wait to get my daughter out shooting it in the next year or so. I love that it breaks in half with no tools so you can shove it in a small back pack when hiking, just in case you come across some blues.

-
i've got an Ithaca .22 semi auto model X5 lightning and a Titan .25 pistol. i got both from my grandpa. not sure on values, ill try to get some pics posted..
-
Dang, forgot about my first gun. I was given for my 10th birthday. It is a Mossberg 17b .22. It had the peep sight with 4 diff. posts that you could turn up for a front sight. My little brother knocked it over, and broke the sights, so I mounted regular rifle sights on it at 14 yrs. old :IBCOOL: and sighted it in. That gun took lots of coyotes growing up.
Will see if I can get pics up later today.
-

I can't help ya. But it is worth some money no matter which model it is!!!

i'm still looking/trying to figure it out.

This is a 1980 Ruger Security Six in 357 Mag. I inherited it from my Stepfather. He purchased it for trail riding on his horse in case he bumped into a Bear. He never fired it. I have the box and all the paperwork including the receipt. About 2 years ago someone broke into my home during the day and this was the only gun not in my safe. IT WAS STOLEN!!! >:( About 2 months later a Detective calls me and says we recovered your pistol!!! :) They served a search warrant on a drug house and they found it. I told the Detective it has never been fired and he said well it doesn't look like it's been fired. I asked him about the box of shells and speed loaders and he said he has the shells but not the speed loaders. I asked him to open the plastic box containing the cartridges and he said there are still 50 in the box!!! They were the original cartridges purchased with the gun but the box got wore out so my Stepfather put them in a plastic ammo box. Value around $450-$500? Its worth a lot more to me thou!!!
-
thats cool, slider. i had an old speed six but like a dummy i sold it.
-
i don't have anything particularly notable, but my dad's got a 12 gauge marlin goose gun(bolt action) with a 36" barrel :o
-

i have my grandfathers Great western arms revolver that he bought and took to Korea with him, I had his remington 510 target master he got as a birthday present when he was 12, but someone decided they needed more than me >:(.
i just got a savage 99 in 300 savage that had the original owners reciept underneath the buttplate. i have taken it to the range and it shoots surpriseling well for a 60 year old rifle , getting 1 1/4" groups with the old weaver scope on it.
-
I have grand dad's Parker Brothers Dumascus Barreled BP 10ga side by side. Circa 1906. It is better than field grade with vent ribs and full engraving. There's a piece of the butt plate missing, otherwise is fully functional with correct ammo.
I have dad's Colt 1911 'Service Model' ACE. Fully functional .22rimfire. Circa 1931 (? Can't remember) This gun does not have armory stampings, so we believe it to have been issued to an officer of that era. A good friend of dad's gave it to him as a gift. (I need more friends like dad had!)
I have dreams of having Turnbull Enterprises restoring it some day.

I still have the first gun i was ever given, a Daisy Red ryder bbgun, given to me when i was 6, still have the original leather piece that goes on the saddle ring (it got in the way so i took it off), had the original box until my divorce (she threw all my gun boxes away), i cant remember how many kids i have taught to shoot and handle firearms safely with this gun. I even still take it out back and shoot it from time to time..
I'll post some pics later, and maybe a few other guns..
ps: I still have both of my eyes..
-
I have a Siamese Mauser .45-70... one of two that my dad (a retired Navy Gunner's Mate) built in the 70s. It's a hammer and can be loaded close to .458 Win Mag ballistics. He still has the other one.
-
I don't know how to post picture.
I still have the first gun in my life at 6 years old my dad bought for me a Stevens single shot 410.
I have had it now for 63 years. He bought it in a hock shop in 1946 for $10.00 and then paid a gunsmith $10.00 to recut the chamber for 3" shells it was only for 2.5" shells. I had it nickel plated in 1960.
it still has the orginal very beautiful walnut stock on it.

here is my 410 i have had for 63 years

Winchester 1897 12 gauge pump shotgun. My dad gave it to me, says it was my grandfather's. I checked the serial numbers and it was produced in 1899. The year before my grandfather was born, so maybe his father's? Might take it to Cabela's and see what they have to say about it. Didn't say I wanted to sell it.
-
I love those old winny shotguns. I'm gonna try to find one this winter. I used to hunt with an old codger that had one and I fell in love with it.
-
Took an old rifle in the other day to see about pricing and they will (on a good day) give you no more than 70% of the retail value. At least that's what the old feller told me. There is a younger guy that works in there that will nickel and dime you big time. I brought in an old Winchester 12 gauge from the early 40's (estimated value $450) and he said he would only give me $75. When I asked him how that is considering he was selling the same shotgun for $325 which is in far worse condition than mine he replied with "that must be some mistake I would never...." I interupted him and said "be caught ripping people off? He smirked and shrugged his shoulders. If you're looking to get a good value out of your rifle, shotgun, or pistol take it to one of your local gun shops who isn't there to rip off your average joe. just my thoughts on Cabelas.
-
I don't have anything interesting, but a friend of mine, has an origenal Sharps Buffalo Rifle from the 1860's. He also knows all the histroy on it. Pretty cool.

you hit the nail on the head, and their used guns are a joke. i'm not gonna pay $500 for a beat up mid 80s remington 700BDL!
-
not sure why anybody would want to sell guns to a gun shop unless they were hurting for money. it's just like trading in a car. the gun shop owners are in the business to make money, so why would one expect to get $400.00 for a gun if it was worth $400 retail.
