Title: Good Butcher
Post by: GWA Hunter on July 25, 2009, 09:47:46 AM
Hey guys looking for a good butcher in either Enumclaw, Buckley, Sumner, Bonney Lake, Auburn or even Puyallup area. The place I liked doesnt do it anymore and I need to be prepared since Bear opens in about a week. Anyone know a good butcher who isn't too expensive. Looking to get alot of sausage and hamburger if I get a bear. Possibly will take them my deer this year too. Any help would be great. Thanks! :)

I don't know of any butchers in those areas, but I can tell you that it will be a lot cheaper if you skin the bear and bone it out before you take it in. Especially since you're only wanting hamburger and sausage out of it.

I have used Butcher Boys in Puyallup for the last few years.  Bob I believe is the owner's name and works with his family there.  They have always done a good job for me and at a very fair price.

Thanks Rasbo. I will probably give them a try. I used to go to Green Valley but Green Valley is no longer doing wild game. Told me too many people whining or accusing them of taking meat. I spoke with them last Friday. It's a shame I really like the job they did. Oh well I will try someone else.

Ps. Rasbo you hear anything about Hancock being closed due to fire danger? My buddy just called me and said that's what he heard.

For Bear, I have been extremely please with Doug's Quality Meats in Kent.  Over the past few years he has done four of my bears.  Smoked Hams and pepperoni are awesome!  He does a great job vacuum sealing everything nice & tight.  I will be using him again this year.

Last years bear was made into peperoni and breakfast sausage.I found a small bone fragment in about everyother package.is this normal or should I be looking for a new butcher?

My meat goes to a place that debones before it touches a saw! no bone fragments at all. Ask them before you drop it off.

What Coppi said.  Dougs in Kent.  I had him make up a load of pepperoni for me a couple months back out of some mule deer from '08.  Excellent stuff.  I will use him from now on.

I've don't my own for so many years, don't know of any, anywhere.....pigs, deer, bear, etc. etc. its work, but its fun, and its a goal to shoot for-having your own equipment and the skill to use it. I never have to wonder about the quality of the work, but I can sure say this, butchers are much faster than me, and do a damn fine job. I just like being independent.

Doug's Meats in Kent is awesome.  I had him do our deer two years ago.  Awesome wrapping and labeling.  He will do anything you ask him to do.  I stop by periodically and buy bacon and jerky and some other stuff to help him out. (Business is very slow for him.)  Hunting season is very busy and if you are a regular you know you can count on him and his son.  I will be taking my business to him anytime I can.

With all the game that comes into these places, is your meat really your meat?

I feel the exact same way. I have all the equipment now, except an industrial sealer, that will be maybe this year or next

I'd have to say "Hell yes", they wouldn't stay in business if they screwed anybody, BUT, I wouldn't say "Human Error" hasn't ever contributed! ;)
